Great beer and great burgers, it would be hard to dislike a place such as this. They even have some vegetarian options although I wouldn’t classify this as a health food destination. The sweet potato fires are the move and get a burger with the Jack Brown sauce.

Perfect place for a burger and fries after leaving the bars. Less than 10 bucks. Good quality beef and other ingredients.

This place was very good. It’s very small so expect that before you head there. I had an amazing hamburger with Mac and cheese and BBQ potatoe chips called the Greg Brady! But I could still taste the awesome hamburger!

Excellent beer and dive bar, bad burger joint. Beers on tap were interesting and delicious, and the service was great. Quirky, divy décor. Small number on tap, but crazy amount of bottles and cans. We also ordered the Chiflet and the Cowboy burgers and shared a regular fry. Fries were fine but nothing special, basic crinkle cut. Special sauce was good. Burgers themselves were small and totally burnt. I’d say hockey pucks, but those are much thicker. Go for the beer. Pass on the burgers.

I went to Jack Brown’s yesterday with my older sister to grab some burgers around 5:30. We got the Wednesday special of a spinach artichoke dip burger(with pepper jack and fried onions) and a side of sweet potato fries as well as the burger with macaroni and cheese and barbecue potato chips with the same side. Plus, extra Jack Brown sauce(yum!). The burgers came out quickly and we ate them just as fast! They were delicious, and the fries were also tastier than I expected for crinkle cut fries. We got 2 fried Oreos for dessert, which were also tasty. The restaurant is pretty small, but we had no problem with the ambience or the service. Total came to $ 25 not counting tip.

This place hits the spot. I’ve been twice: one time I had the cowboy burger(BBQ sauce and bacon) and the other was a Saturday special, with bleu cheese and bacon. Both were excellent. I’m an average size guy and for me the burgers are the perfect size… They’re NOT half-pound monsters that get boring or fall apart before you can finish them. Instead they are«normal size»(maybe quarter-pounder?) and every bite is flavorful. The fries are also great. Simple menu; lots of beer choices. Nice place to duck in for a tasty bite and a beer.

This restaurant has a reputation in town for being a good, fun place for a burger. We ended up here after a slightly more upscale venue had a longer wait than we wanted. First impression of the physical space: super small… and loud. No chance of meaningful conversation. The wait staff was less than friendly, but worked incredibly hard. The burgers; Unbelievable. So good. I ended up with the cowboy burger(with some of the best BBQ sauce I’ve ever tasted). I also tried some of a friends Greg Brady. Also awesome. Fries were nice and crispy with an awesome house made sauce in the side. I would go back, just with lower expectations of the ambiance.

Burgers are pretty good, but on the small size for a large human unless you get a double. Then the price starts to, uh, increase. The best part about Jack Browns is that they have a lot of interesting and creative options. The spicy stuff seem to be on point. I have to say that although the Greg Brady was good, the chips/mac & cheese didn’t come through as hard as I would’ve expected. I had imagined some serious sloppy joe shit going on with the mac and cheese to the point where I was gonna be chomping and be like«oh shit am i eating a burger or am i eating mac and cheese, oh shhhhit!!!» but actually it was just like«i’m eating an interesting cheese burger. is that a chip? hmm im not sure.» Service was understaffed which caused a serious wait on drinks but very friendly and when they were able to get to us, did a good job. If nothing on their short draft lists strikes you on a given day, their bottle list has some good options that are priced in line with their drafts which is nice. Giving this a solid 3.5, rounded up

If you love in-N-Out burgers, Shake Shack burgers then you will love this place. Nice compact fast-food style burgers, made to order with crispy perfectly cooked crinkle cut fries. HUGE selection of craft beers, and a cool bar full of whimsical taxidermy. We just had the plain burgers with cheese, and didn’t feel like anything else needed to be added such as ketchup, mustard or the like. Some commented the burgers are small. well I guess by modern crazy size 50000000 calorie portions, but we found this size to be perfectly filling and reasonable.

The Jack Brown’s sauce is AMAZING. Love the atmosphere and décor here and the burgers are so delicious and literally come straight off the grill. They have different specials throughout the week so I will definitely be back!

Definitely exceeded my expectations. As soon as you walk in, you can tell that the place has a welcoming vibe perfect for having a beer with friends. It’s not a fancy restaurant with a bar, it’s more of a bar with tables in it. The place was packed when I got there. My friends and I didn’t have to wait long though for a table, which was nice. The menu is simple: burgers and fries. From a quick glance, the items all look delicious so it was very hard to decide what to get. I ended up ordering the Greg Brady: burger with house made mac n cheese and BBQ chips. I also got sweet potato fries and extra Jack Brown special sauce on the side. To make things short, everything was delicious. Afterwards, I ordered a fried Oreo because I really wanted to try one and it was amazing. I would suggest waiting a few minutes for it to cool down a bit before eating because it can still be hot from being in the fryer.

The name says it all. They have burgers and beer. Maybe 7 different burgers, fresh fries, and a bunch of beer. The burgers were amazing and very unique. I ordered one with Mac and cheese and BBQ chips. Definitely a «hole in the wall» place with amazing food. Would return for a quick bite to eat. Giving 4⁄5 because of limited menus and price

I love this place. Great burgers, beers and service. My new favorite burger is the Greg Brady. I had no idea that Mac and cheese on a burger was a match made in heaven. I think I’m going to try each burger at least once, yup, even the super spicy ones. p. s. Order extra jack brown sauce on the side to use as a dipping sauce for your fries. You’re welcome.

The place has a fairly good vibe, but be warned — meals run expensive and tables fill up. Make sure to avoid the dinner rush hour because you will have to wait until a table leaves and you’re forced to wiggle your way into the seats. The burger menu is pretty extensive with specialties that include the Elvis(cheese, bacon and mystery ingredient: peanut butter) and the Greg Brady(mac & cheese). Though I enjoyed my menu, I would advise you — if you’re looking for a hefty burger — to walk past Jack Brown’s and towards Citizen.

It was alright. It was cheaper than Citizen, but not as good — ok, fine, you get what you pay for. The burgers are definitely in the«flat patty» style of In-N-Out or Riverside Lunch, and they were definitely tasty and well-cooked with a good crust, if a little small. Fries were awesome. Service was not great. We were told to take a seat anywhere, but neither of the 2 open tables had been cleared, so we awkwardly sat at an uncleared table for a few minutes. Our server was unambiguously snippy. At the end of the meal I asked for 2 fried oreos and they took for-ev-er to come out. I had signed the check and was assured«they would be right out» but after waiting for another several minutes we couldn’t wait anymore so we left. I was asked on the way out«if I ever got my oreos» and I said no, and it looked like the cook hadn’t even dropped them into the fryer yet, and by that point the restaurant wasn’t very busy, so I don’t know what happened there. Nothing was the end of the world, but the whole experience was just kinda okay. May or may not go back. Nobody mentioned anything about a notch club.

This is a hole-in-the-walk restaurant/bar with great burgers. This isn’t your Citizen Burger; it’s more of a old-fashioned, 50s-style burger place. If you’re looking for a more filling meal, make it a double. The fries and sweet potatoes fries were really good. We’ll be back!

I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 15 years and have been a bartender downtown on the mall for the last 10, that being said , I wouldn’t even give this one star but that’s the only option. First of all, I spotted 3 health code violations. Violations #1 The bartenders(who don’t even look 21 and obviously have never worked in a restaurant before) don’t even bother to tie their hair up! The bartender who brought us our food was running her hands all thru her hair! Violation #2 — it is against health code for any outside food to be brought into an establishment, let alone to be consumed there. Gentlemen at the bar(age also questionable) was chowing down on some Chinese take out and it was absolutely disgusting. Violation #3NO hand washing station for anyone. I didn’t see any of the bartenders wash their hands after handling dirty dishes and playing w their hair. I didn’t see anyone get carded for alcohol. I look to be about 20 years old, which doesn’t matter bc it’s a rule that anyone who looks under 40 should be carded. I do not blame the staff, they don’t seem to know any better. It’s the establishments job to educate and train on these serious and important steps of service. I’m sure those girls don’t know that they can go to jail for serving minors. All in all this place is disgusting, service is horrible and the décor looks like Liberachies redneck cousin had a baby with Cracker Barrel and that baby had a baby with Applebee’s and the result was this place. What’s up with all of the bras???(it’s truly offensive) most of these other reviews seem to be fake and done by the owners and their friends. Anyone who says«finally a burger and craft beer joint in downtown» obviously has never been downtown. Plus who only has 4 draft selections? This place may work for Harrisonburg and possibly could have worked on the UVA corner to cater to drunk students who don’t know any better. NOT on the DT mall. It’s a whole different ball game and they probably didn’t even realize it. As soon as the students leave for summer break this place will not survive. The locals will not tolerate the awful food(cafeteria style), disgusting décor, and just all around grossness. Basically don’t waste your time. I hope I don’t get sick.

Finally, a Downtown crossover blue/white collar burger bar focused on great food, $ 4 bottles of the same beer sold up the street for $ 7, great service, and excellent music. Definitely try Nacho Libre burger. The beer selection is great. Don’t leave without trying a fried oreo. Repent tomorrow.

Oh yeah. Finally a beer and burger joint worth talking about. Enjoyed the«chiflet«burger with a fried egg on top tonight as well as multiple rare breed beers that I was surprised to find in a central VA spot. All and all a great experience. Staff was friendly and accommodating for sure. Beers were as well! Thanks for a great meal!
