Very good brunch food. I got the breakfast tacos with chicken and they were delicious. Also the bottom-less coffee made the experience even better. Very nice outside seating. Definitely recommend and will be coming back.

We stopped in La Taza for drinks, because we were waiting for our table at the Local across the street. They beer options were average, and the service was a bit scattered, but it wasn’t a bad stop. Just nothing special. But I’d probably give it another chance and try the food. The menu did seem interesting.

I had the chicken chilaquiles for Sunday brunch and I asked for them to make them spicy. Boy, did they deliver! Everything was absolutely wonderful. Service was prompt and attentive, the food was delicious, the coffee was great, and Belmont is generally just a very cute neighborhood to visit.

The lattes are delicious, and breakfast is good. This is more of a coffee shop that has food, as service definitely leaves something to be desired. The 3 – 4 times that I’ve been for breakfast, there has only been one server for the whole place. If you’re not in a rush, this place is great. Don’t expect to be in and out quickly here.

2 stars for food and the one extra is for opening times, coffee and the big open, outside sitting area. I ve been here for about 10 days straight during a yoga workshop around the corner every morning for coffee, very friendly staff, good, strong latte with almond milk(just that you see there are different milk option s). Lunch though, oh well. First off the staff seems a little overwhelmed and flustered it takes a while to get seated and also to get water. The menu is big with a special breakfast/brunch menu on Sunday. The food is ok. That’s it, ok. Mostly wheat tortilla whch I find weird as I rather have corn and usually that’s what’s served in Latin America. Made without any love or ambition would be maybe the right thing to say? One day I had the Sanchez a fried egg with toast, retried beans and guacamole The egg was hidden under the toast the guac watery the beans great, hit or miss! I also had a sandwich an other day and it came with tortilla chips out of a bag, tasteless, the sandwich was very dark toasted and the veggies were sliding all over the place. So for coffee and sitting outside, great not so much for food

Went here for brunch with a group of friends. The service was slow but the waiter appeared to be new. I got a Cuban sandwich and was completely disappointed. Didn’t look or taste at all like a Cuban should and was small for the price. They had a live band which was nice(but we didn’t come for that). A waitress came by with a tip jar for the band which we all found to be a little rude. At one point I told someone behind the counter inside that their was no toilet paper in one of the bathrooms and she replied: «well there’s some in the other bathroom still!» Ok then.

First time to La Taza as a visitor to Virginia. My local friends were excited to bring us here because the claimed the food was so good. However there was definitely a lack of attention to service as our waiter didn’t give us attention until the owner called him over to us after quite awhile of sitting. Loved the atmosphere and set up of the restaurant, the food was decent, and the service was minimal. We were very impressed however by the busser picking up our table and taking care of us. Had we not had all the time in the world to enjoy our brunch then I may have been more bothered.

Pretty disappointed. The tables are tree trunks which is beautiful to look at but terrible to eat on. It’s awkward and it’s not easy for a group of four to eat together. The chicken nachos were huge and pretty tasty. However, DONOT get the paella. It’s not worth $ 26 and it’s barely enough for one person even though the menu says it’s good for two people. It’s pretty salty too. The curried goat was way too salty and didn’t look appealing. The burger wasn’t bad but it wasn’t excellent either. The fries were obviously frozen and heated up. Honestly the best thing was the beer. We went here because everything else was packed. Out of everything we got, the nachos were the best. Upgraded to three stars because the owner/manager followed up with me and that’s great customer service.

New ownership I think and new Cuban/Guatemalan/Caribbean fusion menu.(That’s what the waiter said at least) Amazing food. I was ready to be disappointed after reading some reviews but 3 of us ate here and had Baja tacos, chorizo and shrimp tacos and smoked chicken nachos. Huge portions and awesome flavors and spices. Had a great breakfast here 2 weeks ago. Will be back.

Went here for breakfast late morning recently with my family. The food was very good; the service was pretty much not happening. Only two people were in the restaurant when we arrived, both just drinking coffee and working on their home delivery cat polishing service start up web pages. We were seated promptly and given menus. Half hour later we had no coffee, no water, silverware, order had not been taken — in summary, no contact with the staff at all. The waitress was sitting ten feet from us wrapping silverware. I finally asked the manager if someone could wait on us, and he did so himself. I am guessing that waiting on tables was not something the waitress considers her job. Fifteen minutes later, the food arrived for three of us, and twenty minutes the fourth order arrived. Tasty, but a bit testy by this point. I assume the staff was having a bad morning, and I am hoping that your experience is better than ours. In all fairness, the food was good, but I just don’t have the patience to wait 45 minutes for breakfast in an empty restaurant.

Let me start this review by saying that I generally like this place. I go here frequently. The coffee and food are both very good. The waitstaff is friendly, and the two high-school aged hosts/busboys are adorable and remind me of my younger brothers. This past Saturday, however, was horrible. I had guests in from out of town, and I took them here for brunch, which turned out to be a huge mistake. First, we were seated under a red awning that dripped water on us throughout the meal. There was also an employee sitting behind us at the(closed) bar, who was talking very loudly on her cell phone. I know she worked there because we could hear her whole conversation about how she just got off her shift. Ugh. We should have just left. The waiter, who was very kind, brought us a bottle of water for the table in a water jug of some kind. I noticed some brown specks on the bottle, and I tried to wipe them off. The specks didn’t come off. Because they were actually bugs living inside the water bottle. Let me repeat that. We were served a bottle of water containing LIVE. BUGS. It was disgusting and horrifying. We let our waiter know, and he took the bottle of water away. When the food came out, it was really good. My favorite dish to get there is the veggie quesadilla, which I would recommend to anyone. I don’t usually get quesadillas at restaurants, because they are cheap and easy to make at home, but this one is(generally) worth paying for. Unfortunately, on Saturday, my quesadillas came with a large piece of plastic. It looked like it was a part of the packaging for something, and it was baked into the middle of one of the slices. Truly, I could have probably forgiven the garbage quesadillas and the water bugs. I live in the neighborhood and want this place to succeed. However, the way this situation was handled was completely inexcusable. In my opinion, the manager should have comped our entire meal, and sent over a round of drinks, on the house. At the very least, my meal, which, again, contained GARBAGE, should have been free. Instead, I received a coupon for a «free appetizer with purchase of 2 entrees OR free beverage with purchase of Breakfast or Lunch entrée($ 3 max for beverage, alcohol not included).» This is NOT acceptable. Also, despite the bug ecosystem being served to everyone at the table, I was the only one to get a coupon. You cannot attempt to poison your customers on two separate occasions, in the span of one meal, and expect to get away with this kind of BS compensation. The people running this restaurant should be ashamed of how they treated my guests and me. This experience ruined my perception of La Taza, and I will never bring people here again.

Come here almost everyday when i used to live close by. The barista introduce me to this café cubano con leche(with light sugar and extra shot of expresso), it’s like i got an enlightment, it just took my appreciation of coffee to whole ‘nother level. But anyway, love this place and their coffee, as well as the people that work there. Always friendly and informative :). Btw, we just moved to our new place in August. Haven’t been back there to get my fix yet

Came here for brunch and was treated VERY rudely by the man who turned out to be the manager! When I said we had 3 more people joining our party to make it a party of 6(SO big I know… not!) he rolled his eyes in disgust as if more customers coming to his restaurant was the worst news he had heard all day. The food was good but not good enough to get me to come back to a place where I felt like I was inconveniencing the MANAGER not even just a low level employee by simply trying to eat brunch with some friends that had come to town. They even remarked that they were shocked someone in such a small friendly town could act so rude to customers.

Best fish tacos we’ve ever had. And we’ve had a lot! Chef Matt rocks. Jared was awesome and made us feel right at home. This is a place known for their brunch, but let me tell you, the dinner menu should not be overlooked! Cocktails were great too.

The environment was beyond fun, laid back and friendly! The pork belly and watermelon kimchi burrito was a little piece of glorious heaven wrapped in tortilla. Come and save yourself!

I was referred here by a local, and I’m glad I was. They have a very unique menu, which is a breath of fresh air from the burger/chicken/fries that most places offer. I had a filling brisket burrito, and it was very tasty. Though a but heavy on cilantro. Still, a good decision. I also tried their strawberry tea. Which was perfect. I was happy and full, out the door for $ 11. I’d definitely recommend.

Tried to brunch here, but blonde ponytail dude ruined it. He actually refused to talk to my wife and I, waving his hand in my face.

I came in while visiting Monticello and they were serving brunch! I only wanted coffee so I didn’t get to try the food. The atmosphere is cool with outdoor seating! You can either dine in and be waited on or just have a coffee or latte. I loved the coffee.

I would give this place more like 1.5 stars, but given that there are no ½ stars, I will favor a 1 star over 2. My friend and I came here at 8:05AM on a Sunday morning, and there were already 3 customers present(the place opens at 8AM on weekends). The place is cute and nestled in the Belmont neighborhood. The outdoor patio is nice and can provide a relaxing, picturesque setting in the early morning. We were told that we could sit anywhere outside, and our server would greet us soon. The tables outside weren’t set at all. If you’re a restaurant, aren’t you supposed to have everything set and ready by opening? It looked very unprofessional seeing them carry out trays of ketchup/salt and pepper/tabasco/etc. and placing them onto the table in front of us. We also only had 1 menu to share for the first few minutes, as they hadn’t even pulled out their menus yet… Our server wasn’t the friendliest either. I think she smiled once as I walked inside to use the restroom. And as I was trying to find the restroom, I asked one of the servers at the bar– who was chomping down breakfast out in the open for all to see– and pointed towards the restroom, as his mouth was full of food. Again, not professional at ALL. I’ve been a server before, and I understand that sometimes you just have to eat or you’re going to faint. But you don’t eat inside the restaurant where customers can see you; you eat in the back or somewhere out of sight. Otherwise, the setting was pretty– tabletops made out of tree stumps, that type of look. The breakfast and lunch menu items are each about $ 9 – 10 a pop. I ordered the waffle taco, which looked like one of the most expensive entrees($ 11). I was really excited, because I have yet to try taco bell’s waffle taco(which looks uh-mazing). Imagine my surprise when the plate came out, and my dish didn’t look like a dish at all(see photo in photo section). It was an Eggo waffle simply cut into half with some eggs and bacon as its filling, plus some what they claim to be chorizo sausage crumbles atop. I was given a side of fruit that was sprinkled with cinnamon for whatever reason. I had assumed that the portion I was going to be given would be large, as it was one of the more expensive items on the menu, and I was really imagining a large version of the taco bell version of a waffle taco. I was severely disappointed that it wasn’t even a waffle; they made a sandwich out of it. I had expected to hold it and to eat it like a taco. But nope, it was just a sandwich. And a small one at that(it really was the size of ½ an Eggo waffle). I was able to easily eat it all. I was satisfied enough, but I’m sure that if one of my brothers had eaten just that meal, they would be hungry again after only a couple of hours. And everything tasted blech. Overcooked, flavorless, and the Eggo waffle definitely tasted like it was just microwaved(at least pop it in a toaster oven and TRY to make it crunchy for your customers). Oh, and my server forgot my syrup. Minor mistake, but I still feel like if you’re ordering a waffle anything, syrup should be on your plate. Especially when there was definitely enough room on that plate given the small portion size… providing a cup of syrup may have even made my meal look more complete. My friend ordered the Hangover. I was able to try a piece, and I found it saltier than it should have been. Even though my meal was blech, I actually preferred it over her Hangover. Overall, I was rather unhappy with my dining experience. I would not come here for the food. This would be a cute place for an early morning coffee and to read the newspaper. But ONLY for that. Otherwise, there are cheaper and tastier options for a weekend breakfast/brunch. Don’t order the waffle taco; you’ll thank me.
