They make you pour your own coffee then have the nerve to charge you more because you want to use a card, in 2016. Forget this place, just go to Starbucks, its better coffee anyways.

Every time I come to Charlottesville, I visit this shop. Amazing, thoughtful coffee! Power balls are tasty, too!

A Charlottesville staple! Great place to do work or meet up with friends. The soy cappuccinos are velvety and delicious. The caffe breve is my drink of choice when I’m feeling extra indulgent.

Not the greatest first experience here. Asked the person taking our order if they made drinks using almond milk; she said yes, so ordered a vanilla mocha w/almond milk, a coffee, and 2 cappuccinos. The wait was 25 minutes, and I finally had to inquire as to the status of our drinks. The barista told me they didn’t have almond milk; she had made the mocha with cow’s milk and had to remake with soy. It would really increase efficiency if they called orders by name instead of by order, as people who ordered way after us attempted to take our cappuccinos. We didn’t receive our cup for coffee and had to ask for that, too. All in all the trip there was a hassle and exhausting and not sure we’d go back.

Love the tea here! My BF and I like to pretend we’re fancy people and get a pot of tea to share and play some chess here. Great atmosphere, but most of the time it’s hard to find a spot to sit.

I love their cappuccinos — having one is a great start to my day. I’m by no means a coffee connoisseur, but I would say they serve pretty decent coffee here, even if it is a little bit overpriced. Their frosty latte is another favorite of mine — a cold and sweet drink that’s blended up like a frappuccino. I was vacillating between giving them 3 and 4 stars. I think 3 stars is appropriate because their food is god awful. I haven’t had a single thing here(and trust me, I’ve tried on several occasions) that tasted good. Most of their stuff is vegan, gluten-free, etc. so maybe that’s why everything tastes a little bit like dry cardboard. It is not worth paying money for Mudhouse’s ‘treats’ when other, better places are literally a hop, skip, and jump away on the Downtown Mall. Mudhouse is definitely a nice place to hang out with a friend in the afternoon or on the weekends. They have indoor and outdoor seating, but the place is kind of small and it gets very busy on the weekends. Lots of people also come here to do work or study as well. In terms of Mudhouse’s merit as a study space, it’s not to my liking. They constantly play loud music, which can be very distracting, and the tables they provide are very small, unless you commandeer more tables to push together. Additionally, the non-working crowd can also be very distracting. In terms of a study spot on the Downtown Mall, I vastly prefer Java Java down the street.

Very good coffee. You can tell that you are in for a treat when your Latte shows up with a design in the foam.

I realize taste is subjective. But if one charges $ 2.50 for a 10 ounce cup of coffee it is expected to either be very high-end or it’s the Ritz Carlton café. I rate their Mudhouse blend as too acidic and the brew strength was weak. In fact, the coffee seemed a lot like weak Dunkin Donut brew. Great ambience, which explained why there were a dozen«patrons» taking up the seats inside. Color me an old boom hair.

Overpriced and overcrowded. I’d rather go to Starbucks and get a much larger drink for the same price.

Stingy on the chocolate for the mocha. Chocolate isn’t good that they use either. Stingy and cheap quality, not a good combo. It’s basically hot milk you are drinking. Please fix this mudhouse. Overpriced by FAR. Not sure why they are way more expensive than competitors that are actually better.

How wonderful it was to find this coffeeshop in the Charlottesville area after a long day of exploring. I especially like the seating area by the front window, perfect for playing chess or people watching. I ordered the mocha, which I thought was subpar to ones I’ve had from other places. It was very milky and not as strong as I would’ve preferred. It’s a pretty cool place to hang out though.

Really good coffee! The service was good and I also tried dessert and that was good — considering they were about to close. For sure recommend

Tried two different kinds of beverages, not bad but nothing special. The coffee came in a relatively small cup compared to what you may get in other places(from the same type and size) and was kinda warm; I think a cup of coffee should be served hot not warm. Workers are nice and attentive. The atmosphere of the place is cool, but may get crowded sometimes where you cannot find a place to set. Not sure if I am willing to give it another chance.

I just needed a place to chill out and get my energy back before I met a friend for dinner and then drove home to DC. Thank you, Mudhouse, for providing me with the sanctuary and the sustenance I needed. The Mudball was tasty, the service was friendly, and my iced coffee was a welcome beverage. I will be back my next time through.

Stopped by on our way to Fredericksburg and grabbed a latte and a frozen caramel latte and they were spot on.

I love coffee and make it a point to try local spots during my travels. The Mudhouse in the downtown pedestrian mall area in Charlottesville looked like a great place to try… so we did. I am very particular about my coffee and like to have options. Unfortunately, they only have one option if you’re looking for drip coffee — it was tasty, just not the rich & dark roast I would have preferred. My wife had a decaf latte. She wanted almond milk but the only options were soy or dairy. It was good but, again, having more than 2 options(neither of which were stomach-friendly for her!) would have been nice. Give the place a try. The servers are friendly and the atmosphere is fun.

Mudhouse is the sole reason a group of five friends and I didn’t go ham on each other on a recent trip. We had just suffered 24 hours together in the cold an drain and all of the restaurants we wanted to go to were on a wait. We were hangry and tensions were starting to run high. With the trusty help of Unilocal,Mudhouse swooped in to save the day. This lovely hipster coffee shop is full of reclaimed wood, hay bales, tin tea pots and other décor that is reminiscent of a Portlandia episode. From pour overs, to siphons, to frozen lattes, to an eclectic assortment of organic teas and delicious homemade looking cakes(‘m looking at you carrot and zucchini) and healthy power balls. And their alternative milk options don’t just end at soy either. Hemp milk is also on the menu here. I opted for a pot of barley rice tea and it was a delicious earthy combination to settle my stomach and just reset for the entire day. We took up the little sunshiney bench by the window and by the tiem we reached the bottom of our cup we were ready for biz-nass! I’d definitely come back here again.

The very best way to enjoy Mudhouse is by getting a big pot of tea(and honestly, these folks have some of the very best tea I’ve tasted– the masala chai is all kinds of brilliance), one of their big, soft, sweet chocolate chip cookies, and by sitting outside on a spring afternoon.
