We enjoyed our breakfast and coffee while staying in Charlottesville this past Friday. Coffee tasted fresh and strong. We both had omelettes and the selection of fillings was great and varied. Definitely recommend for a coffee lover.

Went here for breakfast with my family this morning. I was very happy with my Samoa latte and avocado toast, and my family liked their French toast and granola and eggs. They seemed very polite and I would recommend for people traveling through Cville.

This is maybe the best breakfast on the mall. More variety than any breakfast place in Cville. Outdoor seating. Nice people. Can’t wait to go back.

Grit — they live up to their name. Some of the best grits I’ve ever had! Highly recommend the pork in your grits. Great prices, casual atmosphere and a great spot for a quick breakfast.

My unlucky streak in Charlottesville continues. 30 minutes waiting for a cup of coffee. Is this real life?! The employees spent so much time bickering they forgot about our order. 5 people behind the counter cannot produce a cappuccino apparently. There is no rhyme or reason to the order in which people were served. If looks could kill, everybody in this establishment would be oh so dead.

No description or explanation of the order process certainly makes this place sterile. We ordered a water and con leche, waited nearly ten minutes for the coffee only to realize the water was self serve. The guy behind the counter was too busy flirting with some random customer not buying anything. The black bean before burger was good but had no black beans. The Cubano was good. Don’t serve cheap tortilla chaos as a side though, it just shows you don’t care. Atmosphere is sort of a «I can’t afford Chipotle’s designer feel… Not a fan. Sorry guys but I just can’t get behind this place.

Ambience is nice. We got The Grad… Flavor was good but totally lacking in presentation. The Bacon was a disappointment not crispy. The cheese was just sliced in squares laid on top… I was happy however that they provided Cholula on the table. the toast with raspberry jam was nice.

Best kept secret breakfast place in Cville! Fresh tasty well seasoned food, especially if you love chorizo! Sourced local. Deelish coffee choices too and great atmosphere. Enjoy!

Almost lost my s*** when I stepped in today to find a huge new menu with the chicken tamales no longer listed as a main breakfast item. Turns out they just moved it to the sides menu. Close call! The chicken tamales are amazing. All the other food I’ve had here is pretty good too, and the new bowls look interesting, but honestly I can’t bring myself to get anything but the chicken tamales. They’re big for the price and come with a great guac-like verde salsa. Also the staff here is very friendly and the coffee is solid. UPDATE: Tried one of their grit bowls with pulled pork. F’in delicious. Giving those tamales a run for their money.

Got there at 4:51 and they close at 5:00. All i wanted was a café con leche. The two employees had already cleaned the entire place and would only serve us coffee from acoffee pot. I bet the owners wouldn’t be too happy about that.

I went yesterday moring for lunch with my girlfriend. It was probably one of the poorest experiences I’ve ever had in a Café. We both ordered an Iced Mocha and a sandwich. Both of the mochas were incorrectly made and the wrong size cups. The sandwich was decent but it didn’t help they skimmed on alot of the ingredients. I got one tiny 1″ circle slice of a pickle on my Cuban sandwich. I went to use the rest room and found it disgusting. Is it truly that hard to have a trash can larger than a tea cup for you patrons? Most of the staff was very polite. Might be an issue with the owners caring enough about the several businesses they bought. Would not recommend.

As previous reviewers mentioned, the new owners have(thankfully!) held on to a lot of the menu items from the late Café Cubano. We ordered the breakfast burrito and the Greek omelette and were quite pleased with how they turned out. The pesto sauce mixed into the omelette made it by far one of the best Greek omelettes I have ever had! Only complaint is that whoever was calling out the drink orders had to pretty much yell in order to get people’s attention. So, next visit, I’ll be sure to sit in the back room.

Formerly Café Cubano, Grit Café is still the same place with(thankfully) the same menu(although I read that the new owners are going to slowly introduce a new menu that’s more Southern). Came here for brunch last weekend after reading some positive reviews on Unilocal and am sure I’ll be back again. The menu has all the basic brunch staples and we ordered the waffle with strawberries and breakfast burrito. The waffle was wonderfully fluffy and the breakfast burrito had an amazing green sauce which brought a great flavor to everything. A solid, delicious brunch choice! Plenty of seating and they bring the food to you! Also the coffee here is great — try the café con leche!
