Five stars+ for Charlottesville’s POSTURESTUDIO Having enjoyed an active and healthy lifestyle all of my life, I was proud of my physical condition until I developed a persistent case of plantar fasciitis at age 67. Possibly related to a 20-year-old groin injury, I sought professional help from several sources and tried several different physical therapy programs available in our area. Finally, I was referred to the Posture Studio by Martha Jefferson’s Physical Therapy department. I was delighted and relieved to meet Carla Shifflett, the Studio’s director. Carla explained how soft-tissue injuries can alter proper functioning, the importance of posture and how the correct way to strengthen and stretch muscle tissue provides the promise of certain recovery — and finally, it all made sense! I am one who prefers exercise through walking or hiking in the woods. In order to make a commitment to an indoor exercise program, I need to understand what I am doing, why I am doing it, and I need to know I am doing it correctly. This is the service the Posture Studio provides through its programs and the supervision of its excellent staff. After a little over six months, I am clearly over the plantar fasciitis and any reminders of the groin injury. More importantly perhaps, I feel a better relationship developing with my own body — a better understanding of how it works and what it needs for me to continue enjoying an active and healthy lifestyle. The POSTURESTUDIO provides a pleasant atmosphere. It is conveniently located near the west end of the downtown mall with parking provided. Michael Stowers, House and Garden Guide, Monticello
