I wanted to take my son on a few-day trip to Shenandoah National Park, Monticello and the Blue Ridge Parkway, so we stayed in Charlottesville as we did last year. This year, we opted to try the RRI. It is what it is: shelter. The room was OK, the beds were comfortable enough and the AC was nice and cool. The bathroom was tiny and the ceiling was poorly patched with holes exposed. Breakfast was good. Cereal, hard-boiled eggs, make your own waffle station, pastries, juice, coffee etc. I was not pleased with the housekeeping. We were provided with nothing to hang on the door to indicate if we wanted service or to not disturb. On Monday, before we went out for the day, the maid knocked on our door and we said we were leaving in less than an hour but would like service. She said she would be back and went to the next room. When came back in the evening she didn’t touch our room. On Tuesday morning at about 9:30, she strolled in our room(I was in the bathroom) and startled my 8 year old and she turned around and went back out. Check-out wasn’t until 11, so I feel as though we were being rushed. I don’t like that. Simple solution: provide door hangars. All in all, I had a better experience at the Econo lodge across the street the year before. I probably won’t be back.

My husband and I came to town to visit family and help out my Mom who had surgery on her shoulder two days before. The staff were friendly at the front desk. We got there late but they seemed happy to see us. A night later I went down to get some stuff from the desk and the guy behind it was asleep. I said something to him he opened his eyes, and then shut them and went back to sleep. So I tried again this time waking him up. He got my items but seemed a bit annoyed he had to wake up and unapologetic for being asleep. Then a day later I asked the girl in housekeeping for toilet paper and she had no idea what I was saying, she didn’t speak enough English to know toilet paper. So I had to google the translation. So that’s about the staff, now about the motel and the room. The lobby was nice and clean with coffee and such. The grounds were ok, nothing special. We couldn’t find the front, and there’s construction of another motel pretty much right next door. It’s surrounded by other motels. No pool or anything & I don’t think fitness room but I’m not positive. They had a couple of drink machines and a snack vending machine. There was a Chinese restaurant across the street that got awful reviews, we didn’t try it. There’s a good steakhouse across the street too and a very small gas station. It seemed like the type of place you might find crack or whores or both. We opted for a smoking room, because we smoke. Bad idea. I couldn’t breathe it smelled so damn awful. I had to prop open the door all night and during the day whenever I was there. I never quite got the awful stuffy smell out of the room. It smelled like a dirty strip club and prostitutes. No joke I swear. The condition of the room was THEWORST I HAVEEVERSEEN! Every surface was dirty. I wish I could post more photos. The hair dryer buttons were sticky, the toilet was filthy around the bottom, every wall was streaked with dirt, there was dust in every vent, & tucked into every corner. The tub was cracked and stained. There were stains on all the chairs, I couldn’t sit without laying down a towel. The sheets had burn holes and a small stain. I was too afraid to pull the sheets up & look at the mattress, but I did the day I left; I only wish I took a photo of it but I will describe it: just big nasty stains all on it, like it got wet and then it got stained. We had a lamp shade that looked similar.(Pictured) I mean this was the most disgusting place I’ve ever stayed. It’s like the people who clean just do not know how to clean. We were supposed to come back after we checked out, in four days, but we called and cancelled the return stay and stayed at a much cleaner, safer, and nicer hotel up the road a bit. The said they were putting in new TVs and upgrading wifi and stuff but they need to work on better training the housekeeping staff. Just because the place is dirt cheap we paid I think $ 65 a night doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have standards. It doesn’t mean it should literally be full of dirt.
