We nearly had riots in the conference room whenever someone brought spudnuts.

Donuts made with potato flour are simple, light, delicious, and perfect. Stuff-em-in-your-face-good. Do it.

In my opinion, best donuts in Cville. While they have several other options, I find the simplicity of their plain glazed to be best. They are beautifully soft and fluffy(no doubt from the addition of potato which reduces gluten content in the dough), and taste delicious. The hexagonal shape also shifts the surface area-volume ratio just a little bit higher than their round counterparts, providing more surface for the maillard reactions to occur making for an especially tasty donut. Ok, that last part was BS, but it sounded convincing, didn’t it? Seriously, though. Fantastic, donuts.

Good doughnuts I got very confused by all the menu options but it smells amazing. Worth going in just for that. There is a really dense one that is made of potatoes of apple or something. I had it when my friend bought them and it was out of this world good. It is much heavier and doughier than a normal doughnut. It was killer. I am sure they will know what you’re talking about if you ask.

I think about these donuts all the time. These donuts — the blueberry ones especially — are unique in texture and so, so tasty. I try to go here as often as I’m able, which is hard because they are no longer open on weekends or Mondays, and they close at 2 p.m. or whenever they run out of donuts — whichever comes first. All the donuts are really tasty and worth trying, but the blueberry cake donut is my favorite. I will really miss this place when I leave Charlottesville in a few months. Cash only!

I am a Krispie Kreme fangirl and I hold most donuts to that standard. I’m telling you these donuts are the perfect consistency, weight, and you will be craving them again. They are more of an original classic light donut than the thick cake like kind. One thing to watch for – the only accept CASH.

Don’t listen to any of the bamas on here saying a Spudnut tastes like any other doughnut. They clearly don’t know shit about shit.

Most delicious doughnuts of all time! Quick tips: it’s cash only, their hours are limited(no longer open on the weekends and rumor has it that they only stay open until they sell out during the week) AND, most importantly, you can only buy something like three dozen at a time(which, after you have tried these, will be quite hard not to do!!)

Great donuts! I also enjoyed the friendly neighborhood feel on a rainy morning.

You know the 1950’s shop we read about in books or hear about from our parents/grandparents? A run down single-story building run by a couple/family, with old metal framed-vinyl padded furniture, an old-style diner counter, and coffee pots that have probably been sitting around for a couple hours? This little shack is kind of it. They serve lunch, but their known for their cake and yeast-risen(potato) flour donuts(apparently the potato flour portion is a huge deal to most people). They have plenty of donuts because they fill the entire front display and their entire back wall, but they close as soon as they sell out(they don’t make more). $ 4.75 for half dozen donuts. They were out of coconut when we got there at(9:45am on a Saturday). There was a steady line and stream of people, but everyone mostly carries out. We ordered the Blueberry cake donut, glazed, chocolate, and maple potato flour donuts. I’m going to admit they’re soft, but they’re donuts people. I can’t say I’m a donut conoisseur, because most donuts to me are just that: donuts… but these were decent. Now the real test would be how good they taste next day. Anyone testers? Do they care if you like them? No. But since you’re down there and you’re bored, have a donut! *Private lot on a corner intersection, close to downtown Charlottesville *No bathroom *Beginning Oct. 3 they’ll be closed on Saturdays.

The donuts are tastey and fresh tasting. I’ve never had potato donuts before so I would t know how it’s suppose to be like but these are pretty good donuts. It reminds me of fresh soft Krispy Kremes. The toppings I’ve seen were chocolate glazed, ice glazed, sugar, and coconut. This won’t replace my breakfast stop of going to Bodo’s in Charlottesville but it’s definitely one of my places to satisfy my sweet tooth. Just beware they close early and only take cash.

I had been trying to go to this place for a while but found it constantly difficult since it closed fairly early. At long last, my girlfriend and I decided to try this place AND… It was alright. Don’t get me wrong, the donuts tasted good and the prices were great, but to my taste-buds, I couldn’t really tell a distinct difference between these donuts made from potato flour and conventional donuts. For me, they had more or less the same texture and taste as any donut I would buy at a small donut shop. They tasted okay, but they just didn’t live up to the hype.

To me, Spudnuts taste just the same as any other donut. I thought this was going to be AMAZING and just got essentially regular ones. I cannot tell what difference potato flour makes. But the prices are cheap, it’s local, and a thing to do before you graduate. I’m giving it a 3.5 star.

This is my all time favorite place in Cville. It doesn’t matter why I am in town I will stop here every time. It’s such a taste of old school goodness. I smile the minute I walk in. The sugar donuts are amazing. The chocolate ones are phenomenal too! I always pick up a couple dozen to bring to the office. Everyone loves them!

My wife and I loved this place! Very simple place with a few basic donuts and coffee – done VERY well! The day we stopped, they had glazed, blueberry, coconut, cinnamon, chocolate, and maple frosted glazed donut. All were outstanding! The boy working the counter was super polite and even helped an elderly gentleman enter the building. Love places that don’t do much but do their specialty to perfection. Be warned, cash only.

Simply wonderful donuts. Spudnuts are made with potato flour, so they’re delightfully fluffy, and the other toppings or added things just add a little flair to the clean simplicity of an excellent donut. Things to keep in mind: pretty sure it’s cash only, but a bonus is that the price you see is the price you pay(no need to factor in extra for tax). And also it’s super cheap! Makes a great quick stop for breakfast, or for a small class snack if you’re feeling generous. :) Edit: They are now closed on Saturdays AND Sundays, which makes it difficult to go. :(Was very sad when I couldn’t get a donut last Saturday.

I’m not much of a donut person, but Spudnut made me want to be. Not only are the glazed donuts(made with potato flour) amazingly light and fluffy, but the service is extremely kind and friendly. Plus the prices are right, about $ 6 for a dozen donuts, which is significantly cheaper than the other independent donut shops I’ve been to. This is not a fancy pants donut shop with 20 different wacky flavors(no coco krispy toppings or salted caramel glaze in sight). It’s a little family owned business that has been part of the community for a long time. And I hope it stays around for many years to come.

Pretty decent little donut shop. This is my first time in Charlottesville and I made spud nuts my first stop for breakfast. It didn’t disappoint me but it certainly did not wow me either. I tried the glazed and blueberry cake as they looked most promising visually. The donuts were certainly fresh and had a slightly different quality to them than other doughnuts(a little more pillowy and airy) but really and truly, they were just doughnuts. I’d eat here again, it just wasn’t the«fireworks and heavens opening» experience other reviewers claimed it to be.

They serve potato based donut here which makes it super unique. However, they pretty much taste like a regular donut in my opinion but some people are just nuts about this place! I think it’s just one of those places where you have to go and decide for yourself.

Spudnuts! Infamous in Charlottesville– their potato donuts! Never heard of such a thing– so interesting! But have heard of the lines to get them because they’re so popular and yum. Having said that, one of our friends was sadly disappointed by them after the hype. But I had to try it for myself. Have to agree that they weren’t the best donuts I’ve ever had though they were still nice– picked up a single plain glazed that I ate later on in the day. Would definitely be keen to try the other flavours but heard that all of them tasted very similar– just deep fried, potato sugar donut-flavoured. Was pleasantly surprised by the line in store– and we had got to the shop quite early in the morning! Definitely try it– to make your judgment because it’s very popular amongst the locals, and I’m sure they have good reason! [Reliving my semester abroad at the University of Virginia]
