Excellent, the food has been on point every time we have eaten here. The service is great and price is very good. We love coming to the area staying at short hills for the weekend and come here.

This place is just incredible. We’ve been going on our anniversary every year and I keep complaining to my GF that we need to go more often. The service is top notch, so attentive. The food is brilliant. Just amazing.

My wife Stephanie took me here for my birthday dinner, and it was wonderful. Fine Food, Service and even better company. In my mind the best place for dinner in Morris County! so glad we stopped there.

Fine dining at its best. I’ve been here a couple times over the years to celebrate special occasions, and must say I have never been disappointed! The menu is varied and everything is delicious. Was here this past mother’s day and I got the risotto appetizer. I would recommend this to anyone– it was fantastic! As the night went on, we sampled each other’s dishes and everything was outstanding. The service is on par and the atmosphere is nice. Definitely a go to place!

We celebrated my best friend’s birthday here tonight and it was just fabulous from start to finish. The service was exceptional and the food was the out of this world. There were 6 in our party and everyone was so pleased. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. In fact I already made another reservation to celebrate my birthday in June. Can’t wait!

I’ve been here 3 times in the last year. Each time we seemed to pick up on a smell of like a cleaning fluid in the restaurant itself, almost like Mr. Clean. The first time we went it was for lunch and we thought, ok, they just cleaned a floor somewhere. But this«scent» was there during our last two visits at dinner time. The food is very good, but this smell won’t have us going back anything soon. I hope the management takes note of this.

Celebrated a special occasion… my mom is in town and wanted to go out for a nice dinner. Made reservations for Thursday night at 6pm, there were five of us. I read the reviews and knew ahead of time about the prefix menu. I’m usually not a fan of prefix menus, but was extremely satisfied with all that was offered. I ordered mushroom ravioli as my appetizer. It was delicious and the perfect portion size. My mom ordered the mushroom risotto and couldn’t believe how delicious it was. Forgot to mention, before we were served our appetizers we were sent one shrimp sautéed in what seemed to be a mustard sauce. The shrimp and the mustard was great pair. For my dinner, I ordered the lobster tail with shrimp over broccoli, roasted peppers and cauliflower. This was served with a spicy garlic sauce. However, it wasn’t very spicy. My mom ordered the filet of brazino. She especially enjoyed the calamata olive sauce. Onto dessert… we ordered the banana tort served with caramel ice cream. Never had caramel ice cream, but it was excellent. I really enjoy dessert and also ordered the chocolate soufflé which was made to order and I was informed it would take about 15 minutes. Definitely worth the wait!!! Our service was super. Andres, our waiter, was very kind and allowed us some time to order. Unfortunately, once we ordered, the food came out so quickly without much space in between. Something else that I thought was strange… I was served my dessert before my coffee. I actually had to slow down on eating my dessert so I could enjoy my coffee with it. This could be a personal preference, but I enjoy eating my dessert with my coffee. Overall, I was very happy that I chose this restaurant for my mom’s arrival dinner. She already wants to go back!!!

Fantastic meal and service. In my opinion, the best fine dining in the area. Bring your appetite as the portions are too big.

Went there for a lunch on a wednesday afternoon. I would characterize this as a solid, but not exceptional restaurant that didn’t quite live up to its hype. Ambiance: Step into an old gangster movie, sit down at the italian restaurant and be very worried that someone is going to whack you. That essentially describes the ambience at Scalini Fedeli in Chatham. The day was bright, the inside was dark. Windows had 1970s style curtains which were drawn, thus making the place look darker than it should of on such a gorgeous day. To add to the experience there were waiters in their tuxedos in a «classic» manner. Food: we both opted for the«beet and goat cheese salad» as a starter. What came out instead was a salad with plenty of greens, some sundried tomoatoes, and a few, select pieces of beet. The Goat cheese was balanced for the amount of beet, but my point is that the salad was misadvertised. The salad was fine, definitely 3 star material, but it wasn’t remarkable in any sense of the word. We also both opted for the duck. I have read many reviews about the duck and was waiting to be wowed. Really waiting to be wowed. I nervously ordered it medium rare as I prefer it that way(recommendation was to order it medium). However what came out… Duck was medium well. The sauce that accompanied it was a bit sweet and it was served on asparagus that was prepared well. On the whole it was… fine. just fine. Nothing super memorable, nothing enchanting. Just fine. The coffee that came after was standard drip coffee that was less than fine. So for an establishment that is regarded as ‘one of the best in NJ’ and ‘Chatham’s finest’, I left massively underwhelmed. If it is good food that you are after and it is Italian, then do yourself and your pocket book a favor and head over to Marie’s(see Unilocal reviews, its in chatham and now one in Madison). If you want a long drawn out meal with table service, then find somewhere else. Perhaps Serenade — that’s going to be one of the next ones that I try. Oh yeah, one other thing. I called them a few months back to inquire about whether they could prepare something special for my vegan wife. The answer was a very polite«No». So this is not a place for Vegans. At all. Sorry for the lack of pics. I was on a business lunch.

Simply amazing service and without a doubt the best food I’ve tasted since being back from traveling abroad. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys great food. Their fixed price menu is full of variety and absolutely worth the cost. Bring your own wine(no hard liquor) with you to truly«wine and dine» like a king and without totally breaking your bank.

What a disappointment. Food was ok, but nowhere near high quality. Worse, menu described dishes one way, then they showed up with ingredients not even mentioned. Waiter explanation, «we add things that we don’t list». Then to top it off, at end of meal, we are ignored after bill delivered. For twenty minutes. After finally flagging a different server, he tells us our waiter went home. Huh? He left and no one bothered to tell us or come over? And we were overcharged. Two supplements charged when only one of us ordered a supplement dish. Point it out, and zero apology. Just an adjustment without any sorry. Would never come back here. Way too many better places in area for same price. P. S. When waiter opened my date’s wine, he sniffed it and immediately told us it was bad and spoiled. We had to point out it was a moscato before he said oh his mistake. He thought it was a Chardonnay and never bothered to read the label or ask us first. He went downhill from there. Avoid this place.

We had a great meal… but beware the corkage fee! I have eaten at many of the best restaurants in NYC, and I have to tell you this is one of the best Italian in the area. If I say to you that I drove half an hour from Montclair, with all the great restaurants there, to go to Scalini I hope you can appreciate what I am saying. Al dente pappardelle with meat ragout and the tremendous(not to be missed) raviolo — filled with egg yolk are to die for appetizers. She — the salmon with black truffle, Me — the veal medallions with eggplant in a wine sauce — molto bene! And then, when you really shouldn’t eat any more — tremendous desserts — Torte with bananas and hazelnut in a spectacular flaky crust and dark chocolate mousse cake. And I haven’t mentioned the amuse bouche of shrimp in a lovely cream sauce, cookies with dessert or the fawning service. Yes, it’s prix fixe, and it’s $ 60/person — with addl for special items — but trust me — you want to have to taste all 3 courses — because it’s all that good! So why not 5 stars… because I paid a $ 25/bottle corkage fee. Maybe because I live in Montclair, I’m used to BYOB, and I shouldn’t on a Saturday night, but I think that’s too much. It was ALMOST enough to set me off, and it would have, if the food was anything but great. It is, and this is just the place for a special night.

This place is as good as it gets. We came here on a special occasion and weren’t disappointed. They have a liquor license, but we brought our own wine. No cork fee was charged. We were seated with reservations immediately and serve fresh bread. Staff was very professional and accommodating. We had the risotto and soft egg cheese ravioli and they were delicious. Dinner was a filet mignon and a salmon dish that were both cooked to perfection. Flavor is not lacking. Dessert menu is not to be skipped and we were satisfied. This place is as good as any in NYC. We will be back

I just don’t know where to start! I couldn’t wait to write this review but i am actually speechless — tongue tied! Had a resey for(6) tonight, as usual on a Saturday night the joint was packed, filled to the gills. The entire experience is five star. The valet parking belongs here — it wouldn’t work to come here and park your own car, its part of the experience. The service is impeccable from the moment you are seated, the amuse bouche was a perfect bite — a shrimp on porcini mushroom and spring pea in a dijon mustard sauce. I started with the egg yolk ravioli. Yes, an egg yolk ravioli. This gorgeous handmade ravioli that when you put your fork in oozed a fresh egg yolk over ricotta and just a tad of spinach stuffed in there for color and it was swimming in a truffle butter sauce. When this dish was placed in front of me, the truffle wafted up and it was mesmerizing. The first bite was delicious but on that second bite i got the egg yolk and i can now die because i don’t think that i will ever have anything more delicious. If i had everyone on Unilocal’s phone number i would have sent a group text that read«GETHERENOW!» For dinner — veal milanese — i had(2) bites and had it packed to bring home because all i could think was — i want another egg yolk ravioli! But i bit my lip and persevered to dessert and ordered what i think is a house specialty — the chocolate shuffle,(a $ 3 supplemental but well worth it). I love that most of the desserts — are served with a little smidge of some kind of homemade gelato. In this instance a simple a vanilla and a bright mint chocolate chip with flecks of fresh mint that was refreshing. Everyone at the table was delighted with the experience, and the fact that this is a prixe fixe menu is the cherry on top. The menu is endless and it is difficult to choose because everything is delicious and the presentation is perfection. If you have ever considered Scalini Fedeli — pick up the phone and make a resey now because you will need one and once you are there you are going to kick yourself for not discovering this place sooner.

Let me start my review by saying I have eaten at Scalini about 6 times. My last visit ended with the loss of my scarf which had been checked in with my winter coat in their«coat-check» room. When I questioned the employee she was clueless. She asked for a second ticket and then admitted she had no idea where my scarf was. She then attempted to give me another scarf which was obviously not mine — which led me to believe that there was no accountability in place for clothing — plus they were willing to give me another Patron’s scarf. Obviously I wasn’t going to take someone’s scarf but I wanted to be reimbursed in some way and requested to speak to a manager. Whoever I spoke to offered an apology but that was it — my cashmere scarf was 100 $ and given to someone else — needless to say I was pretty annoyed. Any ways I do like the restaurant and the food so I decided to return to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Despite the restaurant being empty when we arrived we were seated between the only two tables that were occupied. This is pretty annoying as there were plenty of other empty tables available. We placed our order from the regular menu and I even paid the extra $ 22 for an additional appetizer. I let our server know it was my wife’s birthday but didn’t really feel he cared. My pasta appetizer arrived undercooked and I sent it back. Entrees were good and I ordered a round of Port wines to celebrate. The desert arrived and also good however a birthday candle or some additional touch would have been a nice. When the check arrived I just felt over charged and under appreciated for a second time. I always tip very well but the service is underwhelming and unacceptable.

Very good experience. The food was very good, but not great. Service was fantastic and friendly. It was a little bit pricey, but I’d go back for a special occasion. Not a BYOB, and they do have a nice wine list.

Returned with friends to celebrate. For full review see previous entry. This time appetizers were mushroom ravioli, mushroom risotto, pasta special with peas and prosciutto, as well as pasta with crab and pepperocini. All were ample portions and delicious! Entrees were salmon special with truffles, special 16 ounce sirloin, filet mignon, and veal milanese. Again all were amazing! !! Had a great time. Delicious food. Impeccable service. Again, Scalini Fedeli presented us with an amazing experience.

This place doesn’t have any hot chocolate When we ordered our desserts a man came up with the wrong desserts and realized he that he had the wrong table. When I looked over to the table that the desserts went to, it was an Asian family which we were also. Therefore I have concluded that the restaurant is racist. Also they are cheap with the ice cream in not giving enough.

Came back here after a decade to celebrate my sister’s engagement. We had a nice, big table for the six of us. Food was decadent and delicious. I took a star off because I think the space needs a bit of an update. I understand the feel for a more homey, older Italian restaurant but I think the lighting could be change and just an update could freshen it up. Service is on point and it is a very nice place to have near my parents’ home.
