This is a very nice date night restaurant. Located on the first floor corner of the Read House Historic Inn & Suites, on Broad St. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the host and taken to your seat. We called ahead and reserved a table but they take walk in’s as well. Within minutes of getting to our seat our waiter came for drink orders and to cover specials for the day. While we waited for the drinks another waiter came buy and dropped off a Rose for my wife. «It is Valentines Day», nice touch. I started with the lobster bisque soup and it was excellent and wife opted for a salad. For my dinner I chose a 14oz New York Strip. It came with two sides of your choice. Overall an excellent steak. Top cut of meat and it showed. The service was very attentive and kept the drinks coming and was there for anything else we needed. We will come back again.

Just went there for my husbands company Christmas party. Firstly, the banquet room was old looking and outdated. One of the seats was actually wet and soaked one of my friends pants. There was hair in our bread and our server was on some kind of drug for sure. He got our entire order wrong and forgot half the sides. Will never go back!

All around quality cooked steaks, and good food. Drinks and staff also very good. No complaints other than I thought the prices were a little higher than justified. All that being said I would come back.

I am only giving this place one star because although the service was good-the food was very inadequate. This is a steakhouse that prides itself on their steaks, which I cannot attest to. However, since we had flown all day we were looking for simpler flair — soup and salad and this being a steak house you would think they could do soup and salad. Alas no. Although the onion soup was very good, the Caesar and Beef Tip salads were awful! The Caesar was not traditional and tasted like a salad you would buy from a supermarket with pre-made dressing. The Parmesan cheese had no flavor whatsoever. The beef tip salad used left over beef tips, unfortunately full of fat and gristle and unappetizing. $ 90 bucks later and very disappointed!

Not bad, Herb Crusted Salmon, I asked for medium well, probably a bit much. Edges were a bit burned. It presented well, I should have snapped a picture but didn’t(I was hungry). The bed of vegetables was great, the crisped spinach could have had some more oil and salt for flavor and texture. I plan to try it again to check out the steaks, but even this dish was $ 34.00, and it didn’t come with a stater salad…

Had a wonderful food and service experience, delighted to learn there is a new menu that actually brings back some of the most popular items!

We stayed at the hotel for Valentines Day and received vouchers for two free breakfast meals. They were the basic meal, which I sure would have been great but our AWESOME waiter was very attentive and allowed us to cash in the vouchers towards different meals. At the recommendation of the waiter we chose the Crab Eggs Benedict which was quite possibly the best breakfast I have had in my life. He explained their chef had lived in New Orleans and brought his special style to the menu. He spent time telling us about the city, brought me a paper, and could not have done a better job. I honestly feel there needs to be a special«6th star» Unilocalers are only allowed to give out once a year because they would have received it…(yes on BREAKFAST)… Regardless of where I stay or how much we have to pay out of pocket I will be back for that again. If you all read this I cannot remember his name(older slender gentleman) but he will probably remember us as the young adult couple considering moving there. He explained all the neighborhoods and history of each to us. Please pass on our continued thanks… Your restaurant and him personally really started our day off wonderfully!

Impeccable customer service! The filet mignon was melt in your mouth tender with a perfectly crispy outside. The potatoes au gratin were delish. Great location for a nice evening out. It’s located in an amazing historic hotel that’s gorgeous!

I was really disappointed. This is supposed to be the go to place for a steak in Chattanooga. I’ll give it to the chef that he can cook a steak and make some mean mashed potatoes(the reason this got two stars). Everyone who ordered steak was happy. Everyone who ordered anything but was not. My mother and I ordered the Caesar salad to start.(A steakhouse basic, right?!) It arrived swimming in dressing with an overload of cheese, croutons and the lettuce was wilting(like it had been prepared and then sat uncovered in the refrigerator for several hours). I didn’t even eat half of it. My mother’s was in the same condition. For dinner, I asked for the crab cakes and the soup of the day. The crab cakes were more breading than anything else… the greens and watercress were in significantly worse shape than the lettuce(I posted a picture of the yucky) and the aioli, finally, tasted like tartar sauce out of a jar. I can keep going about what a let down this place was(all the way to dessert). Save your money and enjoy yourself at another establishment. I’m sure you’ll be able to find better quality and freshness elsewhere.

Arrived at my hotel after very very slow drive. Rain rain so I decided not to go out. The steak house looked good but more than I wanted. I received a wonderful waiter, who told me about the specials. I decided on a soup of the day. It had crab, potatoes, carrots in a cream sauce. It was so good after talking to bryon, he cancelled my other order and I had another bowl of soup. A rum and coke and this was a perfect dinner. A special thank you to Byron.

The sides and the service are fantastic! Unfortunately the steaks are not good. I got the ribeye and it was very gristly and not very good. I wouldn’t come back or recommend it. The bar and drink menu also looks good.

Best Bartender in Town! We just spent a long weekend at the Read House and Adam, the bartender at Porters Steakhouse ensured that we will return to the Read House next time we visit Chattanooga. Adam took care of us during the Social Hour and then again for glasses of wine to cool off after a hot afternoon watching the USA National bike championship race. Adam was helpful each time to determine our particular tastes before suggesting the perfect wines. He was spot on! He took the time to help solve a billing question with the hotel, and even offered to fill my empty Camelbak with water before we went back outside! Without a doubt, best service we experienced in 4 days in Chattanooga!

I found this to be a really great place to eat. High quality cuts cooked and served perfectly. It’s really hard to find good French Onion Soup, and this place served an outstanding receipt. I ordered a 16 oz Veal Chop on the bone, medium rare with melted Truffle Butter. It was perfect, nice char with a red/pink center. In fact it was hard not to naw on the bone, lol Yes the place is pricy, but well worth the cost.

The good: The lobster spaghetti is good. The bad: well, just from my one experience, the $ 24 Kobe hamburger ordered«medium» came out«well done», so it was dry, flaky, and tasteless. The ugly: these three $ 25 dishes ordered for room service cost $ 99. How? 20% gratuity was hidden in the charge, there is a small room service fee(ok), and we added a $ 5 tip for the room service since we didn’t notice the other charges. I hate feeling like I’ve been had.

Ah! I can’t believe I’m so late in posting this review… I visited Porter’s for a delightful lunch on a weekday afternoon. I think my lunch date and I missed the lunch crowd so it was very quiet and actually, I sort of enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. For lunch, I kept it quite simple by ordering a warm turkey croissant with melted cheese and French fries. Yum. I’ve always wanted to stop into Porter’s and have a meal and I’m glad that we did. Now, I’ll have to make it in for dinner.

A lovely lunch on a Tuesday afternoon! I was staying in the hotel so grabbing lunch at Porter’s was both convenient and delicious. Service was quick and pleasant, and I can NOT rave enough about my decadent, steaming cup of French onion soup. Layered with Swiss, croutons, and sweet onions, it was the perfect precursor to my ahi tuna salad. The salad was topped with a generous serving of tuna and included mandarin slices, wasabi peas and heaps of veggies in a light peanut vinaigrette. A basket of warm rolls arrived with a dish of sweet whipped butter prior to our meal but I’m glad I didn’t fill up on those alone! When I’m back in Chattanooga in a few months, I’ll likely grab a meal here again.

So I was meeting a friend at the Sheraton Read House today, for lunch; I was early and she was running late. I sauntered in well ahead of her. Got to visit with the very nice staff;loved the vibe and décor. The menu had a lot of tempting things– I would definitely do a steak at dinner based on what the gentleman who sat a few seats down from me(who is temporarily residing at the Read House) at the bar suggested. Lunch would be a little lighter. After quizzing the two servers working about a number of items — and being nicely asked if I’d like to try the Caesar dressing(homemade) when I inquired if it was more of the creamy vs the traditional version(I prefer the creamy) — delicious, one of the best I’ve had. She was late enough and I was hungry enough to order a side of fries as an *appetizer.* She realized we needed to do takeout and eat in her room before a meeting sh was going to be late for — so I ordered a grilled chicken Caesar and the(grilled) chicken Chattanooga Salad. Both were awesome– we shared both back and forth. Did I mention you can charge anything from the restaurant to your room(bill) at the hotel? Sweet. Oh, and I got a cupcake(today’s flavor was chocolate and peanut butter — really??) — saving that for later. Whether or not I am staying at the hotel or non, I like Porter’s and will most likely return when in the area.
