The wonderful smells that hit you when you walk in the door is just one of the reasons to visit this store that’s been in business since 1809. I always come in here every chance I get for one of my favorite treats — satellite wafers! Be sure to check out the penny candy counter, which has sweets you might not find anywhere else. I went in there last week, and the store looks very festive. I love the trees decorated with the wooden snowflake ornaments. I didn’t buy one yet, but I did buy a copy of George Washington’s Inaugural Address, which will go great with my copy of the Declaration of Independence and Weapons of the Revolutionary War. I don’t know too many places in Rhode Island where you can find copies of historical documents. Antique paint colors, penny candy, festive ornaments, sweet smelling candles… You never know what you’ll find when you wlak thorugh the door.

My grandfather used to own this store in the seventies so it holds a special place in my heart. This is the oldest still functioning store in America and it instantly transports you back from the minute you walk through the door.

Very cute little shop. They have everything from candles, to candy, to curtains. They have a lot of «country» or rustic décor. There are some great gifts and home décor items.

Great«country store» and gift shop! The place smells amazing when you walk through the door. You can buy soaps, trinkets, clothing, lights, and other local knick knacks. I’m not up to date on the history of the shop, but it seems to have stable roots in this small town. A «Must see» when passing through!

This is a great gem hidden in Chepachet, RI. It’s a nice experience just to visit. The merchandise is not«old» or antique, it is new items made to look and feel old, which maybe just what you are looking for. They have a cute candy and chocolate collection too.

A very old place Rhode Island has a lot of old stuff, it even has some very, very old stuff. Old houses, stores, building, libraries, mills and bridges. The Brown & Hopkins Country Store is one of these very old places. In fact they claim that the Brown & Hopkins Country Store is the oldest continuously operated country store in the whole damn country. I’m sure other stores have also made the same claim but there is no denying that this place has been around as a store for over two hundreds years. That’s a long, long time. Of course the store has changed quite a bit over the decades. It no longer sells the staples and necessaries needed to survive but now is a purveyor of items that aren’t exactly necessary to survive but are still pretty cool. The store has two floors that are jammed with stuff. It would be fun to walk around even if it didn’t have any stuff for sale. A cool old building in great shape with exposed beams and lots of small rooms. It’s like walking around someones old house. Of course the stuff is why most people come here. Antiques, flowers, period lighting, candles, quilts, yard things, old prints, funky Xmas ornaments, and even some cheese and penny candies that actually cost a penny. Cool things everywhere you look, you can spend a lot of time just wandering around in here. Of course the store smells terrific too. Brown & Hopkins has been around for a long, long time. It’s no longer a classic and pragmatic old country store but has changed with the times. This is now one of the most fun and coolest stores you can possibly imagine. That should ensure that it is around for at least another couple hundred years.
