In search of spicy Chinese food that’s a class ahead of your typical American-Chinese food? Well, you found it! I’ve got a few friends who will swear that the food here reminds them of sweet home China!

I ordered Dan Dan noodles and chicken fried rice. Both are tasteless and flavorless. Very disappointed

Loved their noodles in peanut sauce, a refreshing change. I had the lamb shrimp and beef family pot special. It was seasoned perfectly(but beware, if you’re averse to spicy dishes this restaurant is not for you. The spring rolls were also very nice but I wish there was more variety for the dipping sauce, soy really didn’t do it for me. This is a nice family restaurant and best of all, contrary to popular belief, you are not hungry an hour later after dining here!

The Han dynasty in old city is literally my favorite restaurant in the world. This one is just as good, although the atmosphere isn’t as fancy and no bar. I do think the food is less spicy here but still delicious. Also, everything came out really quickly which was great since we stopped here after an exhausting day. I had the spicy tofu fish which wasn’t on the menu last time I was in Philly, it might actually be better than my favorite dish of dry pepper scallops!

If you like spicy. This is the place to be. Szechuan style food. They have fresh whole fish. You have to call in ahead to suggest the type of fish you like. They are actually going to the market to pick out a fresh fish.

Went here for lunch with a couple people some months ago. Just got around to reviewing it. Saw that this place was extremely popular(according to Unilocal), and actually made it to like the top 50 restaurants according to CNN. Had high expectations, but that’s not the reason for disappointment. Service was pretty terrible. The host was an older, heavy set gentlemen who was talking loudly on his cell phone and even playing on it in front of us as we dined. Normally wouldn’t care, but service was lacking due to his distraction(waters didn’t get refilled, didn’t check up on us, etc). Food was overpriced and honestly not that much better than your typical hole-in-the-wall take out place in Philly. Had the fried rice which was just terrible. The rice was barely fried, tasted mostly of egg and oil. Gf had Dan Dan noodles which literally tasted like Peanut Sauce mixed with Srirachi, not at all what it’s supposed to be like. Dad had some lamb stir fry. It was overly coated in corn starch, so the lamb was extremely chewy that it almost tasted like a cheap cut of beef. We came at 4pm, so it was quiet, only 1 other table. That table was shooing away flies. Flies, not fly. Like 3 – 4 flies kept buzzing around which was disgusting. 1 or 2 I can understand, especially in early fall, but that many? Come on. Almost forgot the mention apps, had 2 items, but I only ate the Dumplings. Dumpling sauce was good, but the dumpling itself was extremely doughy. If I were nit-picky, I would complain that there weren’t any scallions in the sauce, but eh. Overall, a pretty terrible dining experience. Pretty much over-hyped garbage catered to those who have only eaten mediocre Asian Cuisine.

Still number one in our book — as they deliver there very best. Lunch yesterday sampling seven different dishes with plenty of food left over to take home so it was dinner last night as well, and probally again on Friday. No need to recommend dishes at Han as everything is fabulous. A road trip for sure but well worth it…

After being a «regular» here for a long while, it’s high time I wrote a Unilocal review. I visit Han Dynasty more than any other restaurant, hands down. I first discovered Han Dynasty in their original Old City Philly location, a few doors down and across the street from there they are now. I went with a big group from work — and we had a downright feast. Loved the place, right off the bat. I eventually discovered they had a Cherry Hill NJ location, and since I live in NJ, this was more convenient for me. I must admit, based on the location alone, if I wasn’t already aware that this is a top-notch/high-quality Chinese restaurant, I might have gotten the wrong idea that this was just another fast-food Chinese joint. But don’t let the modest strip-mall façade fool you! Han Dynasty is on an entirely different level. I find the NJ location to be slightly better than the Philly location. OK, the food: Just a warning — I’m a creature of habit, and I’m often a *to-go* customer, so I tend to stick to the same couple dishes, Mainly because I love them so much. My top go-to dish is simple — Shrimp Fried Rice/5 Spice level… with a couple modifications(for health reasons). And this is another reason why I love Han Dynasty so much. They are accommodating when I ask to substitute of brown rice(slight add’l charge, but certainly reasonable) and light on salt. My teenage son is a big fan too — I think he could eat Han for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Once in a while, when we can’t make it in, my wife will make her own version inspired by Han which she calls«Mom Dynasty.» Sure it’s pretty good, but truth be told — not«Han Dynasty» good!(shh, don’t tell her I said that) My other favorites are the Dan-Dan Noodles, Wanton Soup, Scallion Pancakes. On several occasions at this location and the Old City location, I’ve gone with larger groups where other dishes were ordered for the table — everything I’ve ever tried has been excellent, but like I said I typically stick to my routine when I visit on my own. Beyond the great food, the people who work there are fantastic. Mark(the manager), Kit, Alex and the gang are extremely friendly and accommodating. They are clearly proud of the food they serve, and have a commitment to service excellence.

I’m pretty fortunate to live super close to a business that has been doing what Han is doing here and at his other 7(?) locations, but they toil in a bit of obscurity. They keep the menu more traditional, and offer many more dishes. At Han I get the feeling that everything has been distilled down and polished, which is not necessarily a bad thing. With the glowing reviews we did not know what to expect on a Saturday afternoon visit. This must not be a busy time for them, only one third of the tables were seated. From all indications those folks were enjoying the food. The manager came over and explained the menu, we probably would have deciphered it anyway. He seemed eager to make a good impression as did our server Alex who was very good throughout. We knew enough to order the DanDan noodles, and agree with all who have cited it as a must have. And a pretty low cost too. They lowered the heat so Trish could share it, while providing me with chili oil to spice my serving back up. Fried dumplings were very good, but I would consider going without next time to try something else. Our shared entrée of 3 cup chicken was ok. This is perhaps the menu’s least spicy offering, but maybe a choice for the less adventurous. If you are not a fan of dark meat chicken this dish may not be your thing either, it is served in a mellow soy, garlic, ginger, basil and 5 spice sauce. We agreed another visit is on the horizon, although I wonder if a different location might reveal more depth. As it is, this one is convenient for us, so we’ll return. Here’s looking forward to my next taste of those noodles.

Yum yum, give me some. .. more! I’m already looking forward to going back to Han Dynasty! I LOVED the Dan Dan noodles(I’m a carb freak — esp pasta and noodles!) — the sauce wasn’t sweet or too spicy — just uniquely perfect! It was a really nice sized portion for an app too! Our host gave us a great overview of the place and menu and welcomed any questions. Our server, Alex, was super nice as well. Both seemed to really believe in their food and restaurant whole hardheartedly, which fueled my appetite! We shared the ‘three cup chicken,’ which was good, but not crazy good like the noodles or the dumplings that we got for appetizers. Looking forward to going back :)

Is there really more to Han Dynasty other than Dan Dan? I would like to say NO, just go in order the Dan Dan and be on your way. I wish I could say that, but Han likes to push it to the next level when it comes to Szechuan. I would frequent their Old City location, or even their Manayunk spot when I need to get that spicy fix. It is clearly safe to say I am already a HUGE fan of Han Dynasty. Besides the addictive Dan Dan there is so much more to this than chili oil and breaking into a sweat as if you were in a sauna. Their dumplings and wontons are on point, even those spicy cucumbers will make you do a happy dance. I mean I could go on with the Salt and Pepper shrimp, or those scallops, down to the double cooked fish, or pork belly. What else can they do that wouldn’t have you crave them some more? Han will even have specialty dishes for you to peruse. The hot pot or their shredded duck will have you do a shimmy. Plus call ahead and see what they are doing for specials. I think I have pretty much covered, or better yet, begin to cover why you should go in and give them a try. Somebody say Hot Pot? I thought I heard that? You see I can’t just finish with a few things here and there. Han Dynasty is a place that needs to be revisited. You might want to also ask about their tasting menu that will leave you stuffed like a dumpling. I’ll be back more often, Cherry Hill is lucky to have these guys here doing what they do.

I’ve been dying to come to Han Dynasty. And it certainly did not disappoint. The Dan Dan noodles were so flavorful with just the right amount of spice and kick after the first few bites. We also had the Dry Pepper Chicken, Hot Sauce Pork, and the String Beans with Minced Pork. All were delicious and not overly spicy where you could not put another bite in your mouth. I especially liked how you can choose the type of meat that you want and pair it with whatever style spice level. I was so torn because I wanted to try everything! I will most definitely be coming back to Han Dynasty.

Handy Nasty is my JAM. If I had to be monogamous with my restaurants, this might very well be my life partner. Been numerous times and have never been disappointed. The Dan Dan noods and Dumplings/wontons in chili oil are the moneymakers. Its sacrilegious to skip on them. The nood’s have a sauce that tastes like sesame paste(slightly similar to peanut butter) and chili oil. The cherry hill location tends to have slightly milder heat in their dishes then the old city location. Both the dumps and wontons are bathed in a chili oil bath and are in a soft encasing. The hot pots are also pretty delicious, and I like the one with garlic sauce quite a bit. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Also, the place is byob. I rarely have to wait even during peak hours.

Han dynasty has been on my list for a couple of years now. I happened to be extremely famished when driving home from cherry hill and saw Han Dynasty in my peripheral. There were a few things that I was told not to skip out on and I’m glad I listened. My mom and I started with dumplings in Chili oil and the dan dan noodles. The dumplings were good, but Dim sum garden in china town is just as good, I think its all about the oil. The dan dan noodles were awesome, highly recommend. We then ordered a dry pot with pork. It was extremely spicy(10). As long as you like heat, you’ll love this dish. The service was great. Our server was extremely knowledgeable. As we were being indecisive per useee, he told us to order a couple items at a time to better gauge our hunger level. I def wanna check out the old city or ucity location.

My absolute favorite restaurant. Everything here is delicious. The service is great. You really can’t go wrong. I highly recommend the Foil Wrapped Chicken. It’s my favorite dish on the menu. It is just spicy enough and had so much flavor. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp is also delicious. Kung pao, Dry Pot Style, the list goes on. Just go to Han Dynasty and make sure your hungry. The portions are big and it’s best to share(that way you get to try more)! The wonton soup is one of the best. Light and airy wontons. All of the noddles and rice dishes are a nice complement to the spicy main dishes! If you don’t know what something is or need recommendations, the staff is super friendly and will be honest with you on what to order. They are very attentive and will constantly fill up your water. Without a doubt, a high quality and delicious restaurant!

Food is OUTSTANDING. You can choose your level of hotness and My family and I love hot food and nothing is to hot for us but this broke the scale. The spices they use are amazing and the food always has so much flavor. Hostess is kinda slow and takes a while to seat people but once you get your food it’s super worth it. Comes out quick but sometimes you get your food before your other friends/family at the table. Never disappointed when I eat here and I ALWAYS recommend.

There was a time that there was only 1 Han Dynasty location and Han could be found there in Old City working. I remember being berated by him once as we discussed the proper way to eat chinese sausage. The food at the original location was intoxicating and addictive and a mouth numbing inferno that walked the border of oh my I think this is too hot & oh my, I can’t stop eating this!!! There was nothing like it. Those were the days. The service, well, it was okay. This location in New Jersey vaguely resembles what I would expect from Han Dynasty in terms of food both in flavor and level of spice. I’ve given it 3 tries and each time I leave with a sense of dissappoint and a longing due to an unfulfilled desire for some szechuan flavor. What is it with Jersey and the sissy palate? The sauces here tasted sweeter, far less spicy and virtually no numbing sensations that are generally associated with szechuan peppercorn. It’s like the whole menu is for baby adults. On a good note, the space is clean, the atmosphere is welcoming and bright. The servers are knowledgeable and attentive and there is never a wait. IF you are measuring this location against other chinese restaurants in the area then it still wins hands down but if you compare it to a standard set by the success of it’s flagship location then it’s just middle of the road.

I visited their Philly location years ago with friends, and I wasn’t able to eat a lot of the foods since I was vegetarian at the time, so I was excited to come back! Came here for lunch on a Sunday, so it was pretty empty at the time. I ordered and split the dan dan noodle and the pepper fish. The dan dan noodles were great! The spice goes great with the peanut taste. Plus I love the type of noodle they use. Nice, chewy, and carby-YUM! They mix the noodle right at the table, so it comes out so quickly. The fish was also great. So crispy, yet not overly fried/oily. It came on a bed of red and green chile peppers, and green bell peppers. Be careful not to eat the chile peppers, they are hot! Would come again and highly recommend this place! Just be careful what you order is you don’t like spicy!

Unbelievably delicious! A must try! Best Szechuan I’ve ever tasted. Each dish gives a big punch of flavor and spice. All the ingredients are fresh and not greasy! Not your typical Chinese food. I ordered: –Fish in a hot style sauce — spicy loose red sauce topped with red chili flakes and fresh cilantro for taste and presentation. –Chicken in a spicy garlic sauce — not your typical bland brown sauce. This dish has lot of garlic and fresh crunchy onions and green and red peppers. The sauce is a little thicker than the hot sauce style. Also the dish contains full dried chilies. Your white rice will perfectly compliment this dish. –Scallion pancakes — crunchy and doughy. Use these to clean the sauce off your plate! I can’t wait to eat my left overs!
