Wow. Can’t be more happy that I stopped in here. The brisket was great. Green beans were the best I’ve ever had. Cabbage and greens were off the chain. Will be back for sure. Might even swing by for a lunch tomorrow before I leave town. Came back for round 2 and it was just at great. Amazingly friendly staff to go along with superb food.

The hubby and I decided to go here randomly tonight. The place wasn’t busy at all, so we came at a good time because it’s usually busy! It was around 7pm and we were seated right away and greeted by Stacey. She was so nice and knowledgable about the food. She went over all the food items with us and made us feel welcomed. They close at 9pm and I’ve known waitresses to have pretty horrible attitudes near closing time but she was SOOO nice. She interacted with our kids as well and let my husband try a piece of goat because he was so unsure about it(it was good btw). I had the oxtails(my first time), rice and peas & collard greens. Everything is homemade. Those collard greens were so good and seasoned mhmm. The plain rains are yummy everything was yummy. My oldest son had chicken tenders and those were hot and yummy to. The best part about dinner was the owner/chef stopped by the table to ask us how everything was! His wife as well, which made me smile because a lot of people do not do that. You can tell they are proud and passionate of there restaurant they have brought in our area. Definitely coming here again, Stacey knew so much about the food and specials etc you can tell she loves her job and that’s all that matters. Next time we’ll get dessert and try something else. The prices were good because you get a lot of food(I took a box home, my husband ate everything). Support black businesses and try this place. It’s one of a kind in this area and I really appreciate their service tonight. :) my new favorite Place. I’ve had MP islands Caribbean food and somehow I love this place a lot more. Xoxo

I absolutely love this place!!! I’ve never been disappointed with the service or the food. Everything is cooked to the right temperature, and seasoned appropriately. Today, I had the chopped jerk chicken sandwich with fresh green beans and macaroni and cheese. The green beans are grilled, and then seasoned with just the right amount of sea salt and black pepper. I even added a side of cabbage, which was delicious.

Since we’ve been here last they added an addition which is a good sign of the business being successful which is good cause its one of the few Caribbean places and its the best one of those few. Love that each time we’ve been here theres been love music, sets a great atmosphere, its not a noisy band, tonight its a saxophonist the other night steal drums, playing familiar music. No one was at the front to seat us, and there wasnt a wait, eventually a waitress offered to seat us, still the food keeps us coming back. I would highly recommend this place.

This place is delicious and the environment is great! I love their beef patties. The accompanying barbecue dipping sauce is a great compliment to the appetizer. I look forward to returning for the Oxtails and Curry goat. Afterwhich, I will update my review… More to come!

Visited here while on business in Chesapeake, VA. food was decent and atmosphere casual. The food is actually a mixture of Jamaican/Caribbean and some traditional SOUTHERN cooking. i had the ox tail a la carte to try along with the ribs. The ribs were a bit dry for my tastes, and so was the oxtail. my opinion is biased because here in Jacksonville we have Soul Food Bistro that i’m always comparing other soul food places to. nice family owned business though.

I feel like this place has a lot of potential. I got oxtail with collards and beans. My wife got curry chicken with rice and cabbage. The star of our meal was the cabbage. The collards were above average, with smoked turkey instead of ham hocks. Oxtail had a good flavor, a little sweet and not spicy enough for my taste, but unfortunately was overcooked. Beans were loaded with brisket, and very sweet and smokey. The portion of curry chicken we got was not too big for 13 $. My son got french fries, which were hand cut. Props for that. Overall it was a good experience. A little more attention to detail from the cooks would push this place up to 5 stars. I would eat here again.

Anytime I visit this area I will make a stop here. The food was OUTOFTHISWORLDGOOD. I am a huge fan of well prepared Caribbean food. The décor and service were top notch and by going early in the day we missed the crowds. We had the conch fritters as an appetizer and the fritters were huge and the spicy sauce that was served with them rocked my socks off. My BF had the goat with plantains and I had the oxtail with cabbage. They ended up giving us rice as well which was a godsend. Both the oxtail and goat were so tender and falling off the bone. The food here is not burn your mouth off spicy but I could have used a bit more spice. That being said I like spicy food. Overall this place was great and has live music on the weekends. They also purchase the space next door so they will be expanding soon. Great place to visit and eat.

Food was amazing. Its hard to get traditional Jamaican food in Hampton Roads but this place is it. My husband is Jamaican and hard to impress but he loved it. The live music during dinner was a great touch. I recently referred a coworker here and he came in thanking me. Great place! We had the Escovitch which was amazing and the ox tails.

I was pleasantly surprised when I dined here. My only complaint is that plantains should come with the meal. Period!!! I ordered the jerk chicken, rice and beans and collard greens. Everything was good. The chicken was cooked perfectly. The rice was okay, but I loved the fact that they used the Ox Tail gravy for the rice. My coworker ordered ribs and he let me try one, and I really enjoyed the ribs too. It tasted like they used jerk seasoning for the ribs(dry rub). Service was good. The environment is pretty laid back. A little pricey here, since this kind of food is usually offered as take-out… so I am used to take-out prices.

Food was fantastic(curry goat, rice and peas, and plantains) but the service(Stacey) was even better!!! Not your corner store Jamaican beef patty dive. This is a well run dining experience.

The potions are HUGE! *lol* This is my favorite Jamaican food restaurant in the Hampton Roads & Tidewater areas. Each time I’ve visited, I’ve ordered the Oxtails(w/various sides) and at least one other dish for me to pick at… I mean, for someone else to try. -.- The mac & cheese is a must! It’s creamy, not eggy. You can see the white cheese melted in with the yellow as you pull the fork up and out. So drool-worthy! So yummy! The green beans taste like they’re marinated and char-grilled. I’ve had a few people exclaim upon their first bite that the green beans are surprisingly good. They don’t belie their looks. It’s just that, who really expects much of green beans? Well, these are noteworthy. The rice and peas are, also, a must. The coco bread… omg! Tender and buttery! Upon biting into it, there’s just enough texture to remind you that you are biting into something physical(as opposed to metaphysical or divine). The jerk chicken is grilled and smoked. This is so basic and so often overlooked! Dear everyone else, jerk chicken is supposed to be smoked! In fact, it’s supposed to be smoked using pimento bark. But, at a minimum, just smoke it using what you have. This is where you’re making me set the bar, folks! :(I digress. Cutlass doesn’t cut corners here by simply slathering it with somekind of black pepper sauce. They actually smoke the chicken & it makes a huge difference! Yes, I would drive 18 miles for this chicken. It certainly helps that I can also pick from any sides and my beloved oxtails and be über-satisfied! I’m not gonna get into details about my oxtail experiences. Somethings are deeply personal, spiritual even, and beyond words. Oh, service has been quick and friendly and great and the place is spotless. That food, though… woooh-wee!

Very good food & service. I had the smoked ribs with Jamaican rice & peas and green beans. The ribs were moist but firm and very meaty. My wife, a Jamaican, said the rice & peas tasted like her mom’s — no higher praise. The green beans were sautéed and surprisingly delicious. My wife was pleased with Jerk Chicken over green salad. We also enjoyed the coconut encrusted shrimp. The pieces were large and the dip was wonderful.

It has been like 3 years since I’ve had their food, when they use to have a smaller food restaurant place and I thought they were closed, I had no idea that they had opened a bigger place. I congratulate them on making a great success here in chesapeake. Today I went their with my sister and cousins for lunch. I had ordered the brown stew chicken with 2 sides: sweet fries(sweet potatoes) and fried plantains and shared it with my sister. On the platter they serve 3 types of chicken quarters that has a brown sauce that had carrots and red peppers mixed in. The sweet fries had a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on them, and the fried plantains are a must try, they compliment the dish and savor that sweet spot we tend to crave. They have lunch specials offers, but they only serve them on the weekdays. They also serve desserts, I and recommend the plaintiff foster! They are yummmmmmy!

I must say… I have driven by this place multiple times, but did not think once to stop in. And this was due to me not even knowing the type of food they served. Sooooooooooooo…how I ended up here, I had a craving for some curry chicken. My bff mentioned this place by name, and I was like hmmmm I heard of it, but wasn’t sure of it’s location. So he guided me in the right direction and would you know, it was this place I had been constantly driving by for months now. Well the wait and wantedness was finally over. This is really a neat spot in the heart of Chesapeake. It can be found in a strip mall setting in a relatively great area of the city… Battlefield Blvd. The hostess was cute and eagered to get us seated. Dining tonight: myself, my bff and my babygirl. I thought hmmmm eat-in or get it to-go. There were only 3 booths avaiable for seating, so we figured why not dine-in for the full experience. I must say… I enjoyed my meal from start to finish. My only complaint, the meal took a little over 20 minutes to reach the table. However, the waitress did her part in keeping us informed, but I was seriously hungry! In the meantime, I checked out the passing of plates and everything was looking devine and smelled even greater! This didn’t help the long wait either. Well our food arrived and I was somewhat disappointed, because I felt the portion was a bit selfish. But ummmmm… I ate it all and was super full! So um yeah… looks are deceiving. The portions are definitely filling. I had the curry chicken with rice and cabbage. I suggest you get at the rice at least if you order curry chicken. The rice helped the chicken out a great deal. The curry sauce wasn’t even enough to get the full effect of the flavoring. And some how how the rice was prepared it paired perfectly with the chicken. My daughter enjoyed her ribs as well and my bff didn’t say too many words for he was all into his jerk chicken meal. Now I must say this isn’t the best I have had, but it is good to know I can come here if I have a craving for caribbean food. The owner came out to check on us. She was super friendly and I have to say I felt her energy and it felt great! I love it when people love what they do. Especially when food is involved! The restaurant is definitely busy on Saturday nights. Therefore, call ahead to see if they can accomodate you. Nevertheless, there was ample bar seating. But the waitstaff gets you in at least, but the service is a bit slow. So don’t get here and expect a super fast meal. But it is definitely worth a visit and a return visit… and so on. Great stuff… Have fun :)

I have been ISO a good carribean restaurant and happy to say my search is over. It was love at first bite! The combination of the jerk chicken white meat with the Jamaican rice(with kidney beans) and fried plantains was amazingly yummy! We also tried the fried tilapia and sweet fries which was more of the southern style cooking. It was ok. My taste buds wanted to stick with the Jamaican flavor! Dessert – Plantain Foster. We shouldn’t have, but we did. Oh my goodness this was mind blowing! It has a little bit of rum in the sauce and served with salted caramel ice cream. Big thanks to our server for recommending it. Great service. Friendly people. Reggae music. Colorful décor. Great location. We will be back for more!
