I’ve been going to Kyoto since 1997 and for good reason! Fresh and quality ingredients make for some amazing eats whether you’re at the sushi bar or the hibachi grill! The interior is a little dated but they make up for it in the quality of the food and the lower prices(especially during lunch). My favorite combo on the menu is the Fuji Special(Steak & Shrimp cooked on the hibachi grill) this comes with mixed vegetables and wonderfully seasoned minced cabbage. Now the big superstar ever since I was a 5th grader going to Kyoto for my birthday is their incredible fried rice! The immaculate blend of rice, fried eggs, and mixed veggies seasoned to perfection are what really keep me coming back time and time again! Totally worth the slight up charge for the fried rice, you’d be missing out on the dining experience if you hold off on this crucial part of the meal. It creates the perfect base that marries the combination of flavors in just the right way. The only reason that Kyoto is getting 4 stars from me is the dated interior and restrooms. If some solid refurbishment were done then this would easily be a five star restaurant in my book! *One small tip is there are different hibachi chefs and one of the original chefs(I sadly don’t know his name) has actually just returned after a long hiatus. His cooking is incredible and brings the same robust flavor I’ve loved since I was in 5th grade! Hopefully you’ll be lucky enough to have him cooking for you!

Love the sushi. Perfect every time! really enjoy their volcano roll and other specialty rolls. Sushi is always fresh and tuna is a good quality. Hibachi is wonderful, but we like to sit on the sushi side. We have been coming here since 2003, we have tried most other sushi places in area and always end up wishing we had just gone with Kyoto. Service can be slow but food is great.

Great to have a lunch or dinner with groups. The chief does some performances and make us laugh. Great foods and love their drinks. Their sushi is okay but the hibachi grill is the best in Chesapeake.

Not the best sushi but most certainly not the worst. Your standard hibachi spot, otherwise. The hibachi chefs always try to put on a show. They toss shrimp in your mouth, if you can catch it. It’s supposed to be fun, until they miss and then you end up with a grease stain on your clothes.

So I absolutely love their food! If I did this review by their food only they would get5 stars. Unfortunately the service is not that great. Especially if you get takeout. Every time I have gotten take out something happens. Either the order is wrong or it takes forever for you to get your food. It is very frustrating.

I’ve only been here one time. I don’t mean to leave a BAD review, I just wanted to point out this is much more of a hibachi place than a sushi place. The rice was not seasoned which is really unfortunate in my opinion. The nigiri was beautiful to look at though, as well as the sunset roll I had. My friends who had hibachi were not super impressed with their food but the chef was entertaining.

The food here is tasty and plentiful. My friend ordered a Piña colada and he said it was great … HOWEVER, the bathroom … yuck. This was my first impression of the place as I had to go before I was seated. I was grossed out and immediately wondered what was going on in the kitchen where customers do NOT go. The walls had what appeared to be blood and other brown stains. Trash can was full and it was 1130 am. Take a look for yourself. Kyoto needs to clean up, disinfect, and wipe down!

I love me some Hibachi!!! Kyoto does it just right. Plenty of room at the tables to sit, very clean and the chairs are comfy(surprising how some places just don’t account for that). Once you sit down, it’s the experience and flavors that keep you coming back. The chef was entertaining with all the standards like the volcano onion, and playing catch with the patrons. always a good time. I had the Filet and Shrimp, medium rare, and it is SOOOO nice when it’s cooked just right. When a Filet is not over seasoned or over cooked, it is a true joy to taste. Our waitress was attentive, and made sure we wanted for nothing. I know I will be back next time I get the hankering for dinner and a show!

I checked out Kyoto on Saturday night at around 8:45 or 9. For some reason I always expect parking in shopping centers/strips to be a nightmare, but I was able to find a spot pretty easily. I was meeting friends there so I got there about fifteen minutes early and went inside to wait at the front of the restaurant. When I first walked in, there was no one at the front counter, so I sat down on a bench to wait for my friends. About a minute or so later, a young, blonde woman dressed in a Kimono walked up to the front counter and greeted me. I told her that I was waiting for friends and she said okay. Some people walked in and she went to seat them, and then another young woman walked up to the counter. She asked me if I was waiting for my party and then asked how many people we were expecting. I told her in total there would be three of us, and then she asked if we wanted the grill or the bar. I told her I wasn’t sure. My friends walked in about ten minutes or so later. The girl at the front counter asked us if we wanted the bar or the grill. My friends chose the bar and we were seated almost immediately towards the left of the restaurant. As we were walking towards the sushi bar, I tried to get a peek into the grill area through the curtain that was hanging up. It looked pretty packed from what I could make out. Our waitress came over and asked us what we’d like to drink. She mentioned that they had ginger ale and some other sodas, so I asked her what brand of ginger ale they carried. She said she didn’t know the brand, but mentioned something about Fanta. I had never heard of Fanta making ginger ale before, but my friend and I went ahead and ordered it anyway. I made a joke with my friends about how I love Canada Dry, and how much I dislike Seagram’s(it’s always flat and reminds me of hospitals because that’s the brand they normally carry). Our waitress went to put our drink orders in while we looked over the menu. I was pleased to see that they serve ramen(listed on the menu as Ra-Men – hence why it’s spelled that way in my photo caption). I decided to order that and a roll or two(starting off with one roll and possibly ordering a second one later). The waitress had left us with three menus, but my friends and I noticed that the one I had was a little different from the other two. I believe the one I had contained details about the specialty rolls(ingredients), while the other two didn’t, so we took turns looking at it. I was trying to decide which roll I wanted to order(they have a rather large menu) when the waitress came and asked if we were ready to order. Two of us told her we both wanted ramen, but that we didn’t know which rolls we wanted. One of my friends asked our waitress if she liked the Iron Man roll, and if she preferred that over the Happy roll. She said the Happy roll used to be her favorite. We told her we needed a little more time. Before she left, she pointed to a smaller menu in the middle of table and asked if we needed it(it looked like it had sushi rolls listed on it with spaces to check off the ones we wanted to order). We told her we’d like to keep it, so she went to help other guests. I decided to order the Bamboo roll(it contains crab meat and eel sauce, which I love). The waitress came back around a few minutes later and asked if we were ready to order. I can imagine she was happy to finally hear us exclaim«Yes, we are!» My friend and I actually ordered the exact same meal(ginger ale, Ra-Men, and the Bamboo roll), while my other friend ordered udon and a roll that I can’t remember the name of. She said she had already put in our orders for ramen, and that she would go and put our other orders in. Our food didn’t take long to come out(20 minutes max). Earlier I had told my friends that I normally don’t eat the meat in ramen(a waste – I know) because sometimes the texture grosses me out. Actually, I normally eat everything BUT the meat. However, the pork in the ramen at Kyoto is cooked perfectly. I actually ate the pork much quicker than I did the noodles. My friend who also ordered the ramen made a comment about the flavor, or lack thereof. He too liked the pork, but we both agreed that the broth was a bit bland. I was able to look past it though because I’d rather have flavorless broth than broth that’s overly spicy(which I experienced at Zushi Japanese Bistro in Town Center). The Bamboo roll was delicious. I wanted to order another roll, but I knew I was just bring greedy and wouldn’t finish it. Aside from the flavorless broth, I was highly pleased with this visit(and with the service I received). I would visit Kyoto again(and would like to soon), but I’d probably refrain from getting the ramen and try some of their other specialty rolls considering the fact that their menu is so large. Also, I’d love to try the grill versus the sushi bar.

Came out on Sunday night with my husband and his parents for his birthday. We were sat quickly with another group of four. Took a few minutes to put in drink orders and a few more before they checked in about dinner orders. We all got hibachi and enjoyed it. I got the scallops and they were cooked nicely. My husband got steak and chicken and liked how tender the meat was. They do charge extra for fried rice, and to sing happy birthday(which we didn’t do). Overall, we would go back. The hibachi chef was entertaining without being too in your face or over the top. The place doesn’t look like much from the outside, so I’m glad we decided to go in.

A bit pricey, but good food, large portions and friendly service. Being a bit of a pyromaniac, I always love sitting at the grill and watching the chef play with the flames.

Absolutely love this place. Sometimes the employees mess up orders just as any other restaurant however they redeem themselves by fixing the mistake and offering free helpings of fixings. Honestly has the best hibachi cabbage I have ever eaten and the soup and salad are equally as good. Not to over bearing dressing flavors. Oh and how could I forget.. The absolute CHEAPEST hibachi I have ever paid for. Lunch menu chicken is about 6 something and dinner menu chicken is under 13. Which if you have been to enough hibachi places you’ll know it’s hard to find anything under 20 dollars on the dinner menu. With this one you need to order combos just to reach the 20 dollar menu lol My one complaint would have to be the extra vegetables they give you in the rice. But honestly I loved it after my second time visiting. It’s an acquired taste that you will acquire quickly! Very tasty.

Pretty decent food. Great for groups. Typical hibachi style restaurant, nothing extraordinary. if your in the area and want hibachi you should be satisfied with Kyoto.

I’ve had several excellent lunch’s here since the office moved to Greenbrier. Kyoto has been here for years and I may be wrong, but I believe they’re the first place of this kind in the Greenbrier area. For each of our lunch visits we’ve been seated back in the hibachi area. Once we even had the VIP room. It’s a little dated to say the least but at the same time you can see that the grills are quite seasoned. Showmanship is different between each of the chef’s, some are definitely better than other. As far as the food goes I have no complaints. I tend to alternate between shrimp & chicken or shrimp and steak when I’m here. Each meal has been a bounty of food and has been cooked to perfection. While I’m not much of a sushi person I’ve tried the spicy volcano rolls and they’re not bad at all. If you’re looking for a quick Japanese lunch that’s not going to empty your wallet you may want to take a look here.

I’ve been to Kyoto several times over the years. The chefs are always friendly and entertaining, especially with kids. They’ve got some pretty good hibachi, though the food has been slightly overcooked on occasion. The yakisoba is spot on — just as I remember it when I lived in Japan. Their miso is better than any other Japanese grill in the area, for sure. While not over-the-top great, it’s certainly a solid choice for hibachi in the area.

Came here with some friends expecting to enjoy some big portions of food since after all it is hibachi. Being local, I’ve always heard how great this place is. Once we got inside, we were told to wait since it was a Friday night and there’s a policy of not being seated until the full party is present — completely understandable. Now while we were waiting, I had to stand for a while. My feet ended up getting stuck to the ground since the carpet is sticky… Yuck! The rest of the interior isn’t that impressive either. We all ordered and received our standard soup and salad. The salad was bathed in with dressing, but the dressing was good. Our cook did the normal hibachi routine. Unfortunately we got the smallest portions I’ve ever gotten for hibachi. All of us in the group had eaten everything off our plates with most of us feeling like we could have eaten some more. Definitely felt like we didn’t get our money’s worth compared to other places. It doesn’t help there’s another place that’s right across the street. Pretty convincing that we’ll be going to that place instead for the future.

Blahhhh. Not as stellar as I so hoped. A few friends and I went for dinner tonight and when it was all said and done I think most were still a bit hungry. Portions seemed to be a little light from what I’m used to from hibachi steakhouses. I had the steak and scallops along with a soft shell crab roll and salmon roll. Nothing was too spectacular from all that we had. The soft shell crab was probably the best tasting thing I had from my entire meal. I’m not so sure I’d be back, unfortunately.

Wednesday 2 p.m. Complimentary cucumber salad was among the best I’ve tasted. Cold, crisp, sweet and not nearly enough to satisfy me(served in the tiny soy sauce dish). I wanted to drink the little puddled of sweet cucumberniess left behind. Miso soup warm and actually enjoyable. The only time I get soup is when it’s part if the lunch special, and I don’t usually find it special at all. But today I slurped up every bit. Décor and seating are satisfactory but not very stylish. The drinking glass, bowls/serving dishes were very nice, I could see them in my kitchen. The chopsticks were fatter than usual and were square in shape. I had a little difficulty managing the sticks when eating my cucumber salad, felt like I needed a refresher lesson. My server suggested the lunch special. $ 9.95 pick 1 roll from column A and one from column B and get a soup. Today I had the pink panther and shrimp tempura rolls.
