I have eaten here several times, but this was the worst experience I have had in a nice restaurant. I took my son and his girlfriend, who is a vegetarian to dinner. She ordered the tofu vegetarian meal. As the food was prepared, the cook provided her nothing. My son gave her his vegetables. I finally asked about the status of her meal. When the waitress returned, she said that they were«out» of tofu. Then, she brought me the check, charging me for the meal I did not receive. When I complained, she said that they had to charge me for the vegetables she shared with my son. I paid the bill, but will not be returning,

I really wanted to give this restaurant a five-star review, but I can’t. I went here tonight with my girlfriend after recently moving to Petersburg. We have a routine of getting a steak hibachi meal, a california roll, and a sushi roll everytime we go to a Japanese restaurant. We were feeling frisky tonight, so we added in some extras, haha. Right when we arrived, the hostess was really, really sweet. My girlfriend had a ludicrous idea of wanting to sit at the«cook in front of you» tables, so we did that for a minute, before we realized we didn’t want to be surrounded by children and hicks for the whole meal. We changed our minds and moved to the ‘standard’ dining area. No issues from the hostess at all! Our server, Elizabeth, was seriously great. She got our order in quick, and recommended another roll after we asked for something extra with our standard Japanese order. As soon as our sushi came out, we had an Eel roll and a California roll. My girlfriend had circled the wrong thing — it was ENTIRELY our fault but the restaurant still brought us out a Spicy Tuna Roll, on the house! This is when I really wanted to write a five-star as soon as I got home. A little bit later, after a delay on the cook’s part, the steak hibachi plate came out — $ 20.95. The steak portion was, honestly, comically small. The steak was just fine, and only fine. Nothing tasty, but certainly not gross. The vegetable portion that came with the meal was also EXTREMELY small. This was a $ 12 lunch hibachi plate, at most. Throughout, our server was great, attentive, and super apologetic about the delay on the hibachi. The service here was the only saving grace, and in my opinion, that’s more than half the battle at most restaurants. However, the food was disappointing. The sushi was good, but forgettable. The hibachi plate was simply not worth the money. I’d go back on someone else’s dime.

Ok @ it’s best. The food here is ok here but it has steadily gone down. Service is ok, the chefs are nice, cordial and funny, the rest of the staff is indifferent. We have since moved on to find a better place.

Had lunch — in the snow — and it was FANTASTIC! I could taste every part of my meal. Other than having to add a little salt to my soup, everything was perfect, from the creamy ginger salad dressing to the perfectly cooked medium-rare steak and shrimp. The fried rice was to die for and I ordered an extra side of it to take with my leftovers. And, the Zombie cocktail hit the spot to warm me up! The hostess/server was extremely nice and helpful. This was my first visit and won’t be my last!

Food was delicious and service was excellent! Highly recommended! The chicken hibachi and filet mignon hibachi were both phenomenal, will be going back!

My wife and I have been here several times and during busy hours with hibachi, they will not serve sushi. My wife is gluten free and is not able to eat hibachi so we have been disappointed more than once that they aren’t serving sushi. The most recent trip was for take out sushi. I used my credit card and the day after, my information was stolen and used online. PAYCASHHEREORGETYOURINFORMATIONSTOLEN.

Went there tonight for the first time on a date with my wife. We used to go to Sakura’s in Woodbridge, VA and was looking forward to some good food. The atmosphere was good and the restaurant was clean. Our waitress was delightful and took our order. We split the steak and chicken and even though there was a $ 2 dollar up charge, we got the fried rice. The cook was very direct and didn’t have much of a personality unlike most chefs in similar restaurants. It went down hill from there. Normally the chefs will do different tricks like the onion volcano, egg roll, throwing an egg in the hat, etc., not here. Since we split a meal, he only gave us one of each dipping sauce. When he made fried rice for the table, we asked about ours and he said we didn’t order it. I said we did ask for it and again he said we didn’t order it. I asked if we could get some and he again said we didn’t order it. I asked if we could get the waitress and order some, she came and said she didn’t write it down but she quickly went and had them make some in the back and brought it to us. The thing that really was discouraging was since we split a dinner, the cook put everything on my plate and then I had to rake half of it off my plate and put it on my wife’s. There was a group at our table and two women were splitting a dinner and even though it was obvious they were not a couple(one was sitting next to her husband) he still put it all on one plate, even though we all repeatedly split the food with each course he put on our plates. It was like we were being punished for splitting a meal! The food did taste good but the portion size of the vegetables and rice were surprisingly small for the price. It seemed like there was an up charge to just about anything normally served at similar establishments. Overall a disappointing experience. Only got two stars because of tastiness and the waitress’ prompt and courteous service. We won’t be back. Will try another one and let you know if there is a better option!

The owner makes it a point to get to know his patrons. Service was on point. I enjoyed the skilled chefs tricks as he cooked, he even had a great sense of humor. The sushi is also very good.

We come here often. Whatever you are in the mood for the hibachi or just sushi you can’t go wrong. The owner/manager is friendly and remembers you. My wife loves the spicy tuna roll here and nowhere else.

Table for 12? No problem. I made reservations here on Mother’s Day for my large family and multiple sets of mothers. We went for lunch right when they opened so it was a seamless reservation and seating experience. Ray was our chef and he helped make the dining experience lively and enjoyable. He even sang to my mom! And set onions on fire staged as a volcano to make the 2 and 3 year olds at the table either shriek in fear or laugh in jubilation. Ray really was a crowd pleaser all around! The food was delicious and the yum yum sauce always makes the difference when eating Japanese hibachi style. I would recommend this location for sure. Entrees cost $ 20-$ 25 and you get a lot of food as your main but also soup and salad to start.

Been here a few times and always have great service and great food. Noël is the best of the cooks they have here. We always ask for him.

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants but they have been going steadily downhill for some time. First they starting charging 2 dollars for fried rice now we called last night and were told they were to busy to do a take out order??? When is a business to busy to be a business I was like WOW… ok. We usually spend around $ 150 – 200 when we order. Well their loss to bad they have really good food but really bad service.

We only had the sushi, so I cannot comment on the hibachi. Although the sushi wasn’t horrible, we were not overly impressed. The seaweed used in the wraps did not seem extremely fresh, and had that«cheap sushi» type chewiness to it. It is just a middle of the road sushi experience — not horrific, but I do not recommend.

The food was awesome and the service was great! When you sit by the grill you have a great time with others that are there as well. Great place to socialize.

This is my first 1 star review on Unilocal. This place was really bad. I went here to celebrate a birthday on 2÷9÷2014. I won’t say his name but our cook was a total @$$h0le. His personality was only matched by his sheer incompetence on the grill. I understand that cooking hibachi for a party of 10 can pose a challenge; but this is the line of work you chose! Hibachi dinners are often a large party so master your craft! When you cook each thing one at a time and then plate it — EVERYTHINGISCOLD by the time you start on the meat. Use the whole grill, master the art of multitasking, then perfect your timing. I think it’s just overwhelming for these cooks. Yes, I understand there are 10 people and they all want something different. It’s daunting when you think about it… Then again, if you had the higher IQ it would take to tackle 10 orders, you wouldn’t be on work release slumming it in Chester, VA. You’d be a line cook or a sous-chef as some prestigious restaurant. But I digress. To be fair I’ve never been to any hibachi done right. This place was no exception. They all use shit awful USDA grade F beef. They cook it past well done and then slice it into cubes and cook it some more. This ensures that it passes all EPA and FDA standards because it’s probably water buffalo imported from Thailand. You know those health warnings: «Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of food-borne illness.» No need to worry about this at all! Don’t even bother putting any salt and pepper on it, and thankfully you didn’t. Other than the squirt bottle of «mystery sauce» I’m not sure any of the food was seasoned properly. The show sucked too. You dropped your little cooking tools several times. Banging the metal spatula on the grill isn’t a trick. It’s just noise. A member in my guest party made your night rough so that makes us even. Everyone else sat there quietly morose(that means sad). Then the bill came. That’s some very expensive water buffalo. Hibachi is a great hustle and money racket.

Nice place, really nice staff(except for the chef) and the food was alright. A bit pricey but these places usually are. We had a reservation for a full table and was expecting the usual fun atmosphere these places typically have. Unfortunately this was not the case. The star rating is mostly because of our chef, whom I assume is usually the sushi chef because he kept yelling at a girl making sushi not do certain things as he cooked for us. He had no personality, he didn’t entertain which is the whole point of this type of establishment. Instead we watched a guy mundanely cook food for 25 minutes which was basically like watching water boil. The chef did a decent job with the food he just had zero personality and the yelling over us at the sushi bar didn’t really help. Also, some of us asked for steamed rice, I’m not sure why they offer it though because we were all served fried. I like this place, the waitress and hostesses are incredibly nice, just everything else felt lacking.

This place was a great find during a recent road trip! It’s certainly nothing fancy, but the food is delicious and you can’t beat the price! It’s not the type of hibachi they make in front of you, but sometimes you don’t want to pay twice as much for the show. For $ 12.95 I had the shrimp and filet mignon hibachi, which comes with a trip to the salad bar! It was really tasty, and enough for lunch the next day!

Have been wanting to try this place, just never had the time. After the experience I just had… I never will try again. Walked in to ask if they had take out, they do. Sat down with the menu to choose what I want, ordered the chicken teriyaki lunch box… was told they only do the grill stuff for take out, not the bento box style lunch. Why does that make sense?! They’re the SAMETHING, except the«bento box» has us a sushi roll in it an the grill stuff does not. I put the menu down, walked out and went to Panera.
