Wanted to try something new for my moms birthday. This was nearby so thought we’d give it a try. It didn’t disappoint! We started with calamari then Caesars salad. Mom had the scallops and I had the short ribs. Everything was great — food, service, ambience. Will definitely be back.

A mixed eating experience that’s very good when things work but gets muddled with a few disconnects. We ate early ordering sea scallops and fried chicken. The scallops came(not mentioned on the menu as an ingredient) sprinkled with bacon crumbs but the manager was only too willing to replace the entire plate. The chicken was ordered with sweet English peas. Overall, the scallops(with string beans, squash, and carrot caramelized gaze – extraordinaire) were very well prepared, proportioned and paired well with the vegetables and was delicious. The fried chicken was under-seasoned but good as were the mashed potatoes and sweet peas(also sprinkled with bacon). The restaurant is quite beautiful and inviting sitting nestled on the hem of a luscious garden, waterfall and verdant berm. No obtrusive music or TV monitor blare. However, wait staff gathering nearby can be a little noisy. There is plenty of seating inside and out. Service was good but perhaps in keeping with its comfort food theme played a little too casual for our taste. It’s expensive comfort food with a few areas where the experience, décor and fare get a little muddled in execution. The manager promises future menu printings will mention the bacon sprinkles that accompany the pescaterian’s scallops.

We had a great time, we sat on the patio next to the waterfall and it was very relaxing. The staff was really friendly and attentive, the food came in a timely manor so we never felt rushed or like we were waiting. I had the steak sandwich and it was very good flavor and cooked just right. I’ll be back, maybe for the night when they have live music!

First off, it is a beautiful restaurant to dine at. The selection on the menu here is limited to say the least. I would like to see more items on the menu and fries as a side dish would be good for those of us who are picky as far as side dishes go. I had the Spare Ribs which were delicious, but it came with tiny cups of beans, mac n cheese, and creamed corn. The beans and mac were very good, but there simply was not enough for the price. The toffee basket with ice cream and strawberries was quite good. I thought dinner was good, but for the price I was expecting more selection and bigger portions.

Ambiance is nice, looks almost identical to the restaurant that was here before, Oceano’s, staff is attentive and nice. As far as the food, a little disappointed in the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer, so much bbq sauce and smoke we couldn’t even taste the shrimp. Tasted like a bacon wrapped hot dog or pork honestly. The main entrée was the filet and asked for medium and came out medium rare in the middle but at least the outer part of the filet was medium. For $ 40, you would think they would let the steak get to room temp before cooking in order to get a consistent cook; either that or the fire source needs to be adjusted. On the upside, the linguine with wild mushrooms was very good. However, their batter for their calamari is way to peppery, and I love pepper, so that’s saying a lot. Aioli is nice, but it would be nice to have some marinara as an alternative for some, of course, to no avail. Overall, decent, but a bid disappointed in some of the food considering the price. Hope that helps my fellow Unilocalers, but that’s just my opinion, go check it out if you wish.

Hands down the best food I have ever had. The steak and scallops are to die for, and the desert menu was amazing! Highly recommend this restaurant.

Would like to talk about the food but never got to eat. My son got a last minute overnight invite so my wife and I decided to give it a try. We arrived at 515 on a Saturday night. Only one table occupied in whole place. We were told we would have to wait quite awhile in the bar before we could be seated. We weren’t even given the option of eating in the bar. I rarely write reviews but I found this place unbelievably unfriendly. We ended up a Gittos and had a great meal. Will never be back.

Not my cup of tea. Recommend by friend as good comfort food. The menu choices were not what I was expecting. Overpriced for the portion size. The menu is a bit overwhelming for someone like myself who has simple tastes. I ended up getting a salad because nothing else sounded good. The salad was tasty, however.

Saturday night was a perfect evening to enjoy patio seating and Bishops Post clearly has the best patio in West County. Our table for three was the best part of our evening. We asked if it was okay if we shared food as we were looking to sample the menu and it was a late dinner, 8:30 pm and we wanted to eat light. We were assured it wasn’t a problem. From the start our server was flustered. When he greeted us his first question«would you like to start with a cocktail?» I’ll admit it’s a reasonable question except when all three of us have full drinks that we carried in from the bar sitting in front of us. His offer to bring water was appreciated but it took 15 minutes for that to appear. He was rushed to take our order and when we said we needed a few minutes it took him forever to return… Our drinks had been sitting empty before he returned to check on us. We each started with a salad, Caesar was good, wedge was by far the best and the caprese was a huge disappointment. Visually it looked beautiful but had ZERO taste. There was no basil just two small pieces of chive… Menu description said basil and red onion. The worst part was that the generous slices of heirloom tomato were tasteless. They must be committing the mortal sin of tomato storage and refrigerating them as the salad was quite chilled. I salt and peppered away but nothing could wake up the flavor of those tomatoes, such a shame when they are in season. We opted to order and share 2 apps and one entrée. We asked for salads first and then to have the other food follow, to shared as entrees. It took a very long time to get the salads and we had barely started them when the rest of the food appeared… Still waiting on our second round of drinks that were always«on their way» Presentation was great on everything served but again no flavor. Calamari was cold, unpleasant for fried food, carpaccio was accompanied by very salty bread which overtook any flavor there may have been. Shrimp and grits were the best part of the meal… Small detail, they knew were were sharing and we had to flag down someone to bring a spoon so we could eat it… again we waited and watched as the temp on that entrée dropped. I think it would be a lovely place to sit and enjoy some drinks but I’d pass on the food there was nothing about it that would inspire me to eat there again. Finally we had a VISA gift card they wouldn’t honor, still wondering about that one. I have never had a VISA gift card refused at any retail or restaurant that accepts VISA cards. It didn’t make sense and in hindsight was the«perfect» ending to an imperfect evening.

Weak, very weak, lucky if they last another 30 days Seafood Gumbo was so salty I had to send it back. Ahi Tuna was tasty, however $ 30 for four bites I’m better going out for sushi. Caesar salad had little to no romaine lettuce and was the size of a typical $ 4 salad for $ 8+.

This might be 2 stars, but the place is so pretty(especially the patio with the waterfall!) Go for the outdoor view! Get a burger(pretty darn good) and a martini(quite good!) Avoid the crab salad. It was horrible! BBQ shrimp and calamari also very very nice! Staff is hard working and very pleasant, but the kitchen needs help, and the place might be doomed. Don’t wait too long to go or it might be closed.

Came here for a business lunch on a rare nice day(warm and sunny!) and sat on the patio. No one else was out there, but I have no idea why, since it was lovely! I had the frittata and fruit, and both were great. The scenery was nice(and impressed the clients as well)! I’d like to try dinner here soon!

My husband and I try a new restaurant once a month with a group of friends and someone chose Bishop’s Post this past Saturday. Unfortunately, my two-star rating may be generous for the caliber of food we received. The problems started when we first arrived. All of the positive reviews on Unilocal had mentioned the sweet potato chips with onion dip served instead of bread as a highlight of the meal and I was disappointed we had not received any. I asked the waitress about it and she said the restaurant no longer served them. To her credit, she checked with the kitchen and produced them for our group. The chips were a little stale but the dip was one of the most flavorful things we had all evening. My husband ordered the four cheese chicken lasagna and described it as «okay». I ordered the beef medallions with cognac peppercorn sauce served with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes. I requested well-done(I know, not exactly a gourmet) but the beef arrived medium to medium rare. I was hungry so did not send them back but just ate the more-done edges. The beef was decent, sauce was bland. There are no words to aptly describe the potatoes. Actually, no is the perfect word as in NO discernible flavor of potato, NO hint of butter, cream, or any hint of seasoning. They had no taste whatsoever. For 30 bucks, I expect better. The highlight of the meal was the gooey butter cake with raspberry ripple ice cream. The cake did not taste much like gooey butter and was dry but the ice cream was awesome. I only give Bishop’s Post two stars because our server was excellent. Our total bill was over $ 100 for two people with tip and was in no way worth it. We will not be back.

Went for happy hour and the food wasn’t bad at all, the prices weren’t either. Bartender was extremely nice and attentive. 3 stars for now, will have to come back for dinner.

Served raw shrimp and grits… twice! And my scallops were raw as well. Had them cook worst offending scallop more, then guest’s shrimp were totally raw as well. Rather than just take the shrimp and cook more, they prepared a new dish(nice touch), but it arrived in 3 minutes! Raw shrimp again! My guest is still in the bathroom 14 hours later as I write this. Understanding why this place is always empty! Warning to all. Service is really good however.

This was our second trip to Bishop’s Post. We had eaten at the previous Oceano Bistro a couple of times and were surprised one day while driving by, that the place had all of the sudden morphed into Bishop’s Post. On our first visit we left with two impressions. First it is not a dive and not priced like a dive, but the staff was decked out in black tee shirts with printing on the back. There is just something about the back printing, even plain black tee shirts would have been better. It made it look like a casual barbecue joint. Second, they make a big deal about classic comfort food. We did not find it to be comfort food beyond a few dishes. It looks like they have somewhat addressed the tee shirt thing. These have now been relegated to bus and water boys, resulting in sort of a caste system with the servers all wearing regular shirts.(more on the water boys later) We really do not know if they have restructured the menu, there did seem to be more«comfort» food choices now. Maybe we just did not remember correctly. I just don’t include seared duck breast or sea scallops or boneless quail breast medallions in my list of comfort food. On our first visit, I let myself be talked into getting the bacon wrapped smoked shrimp as an appetizer. I found that you may as well leave the shrimp out. You know it is shrimp because they told you so and you can see it. The smoke and the bacon completely overwhelm any shrimp flavor. It sounds like a good idea, but is not. There is nothing wrong with it if you want bacon but everything wrong with it if you were wanting shrimp. I also had a cup of the gumbo and let’s just say I am still looking for good dark roux gumbo in St Louis. Our Lasagna and Duck Breast were good. I also recall that our well informed server thought our bottle of Herman Story Casual Encounters was from Hermann, MO. On this recent visit, we kept to just two main dishes, no appetizers. Ms T enjoyed a Parmesan and Panko Encrusted Grouper filet. It was served over roasted vegetables with garlic butter sauce. She really liked it. It was good, but it was seriously too garlicky for me. The fish did not suffer too badly, but the vegetables, I could not eat because of it. I had Shepherd’s Pie. I know there is a lot of room for interpretation of this dish. This version could be described more as beef pot pie with a potato crust on top. Underneath the piped-on whipped potatoes, was sort of a creamy beef stew. This next part is not a criticism, but it is a lesson learned. The Shepherd’s Pie is a large portion, served in a ceramic skillet and was so hot(thermal heat, not capsaicin), that I simply could not eat it. I can’t complain because I have been getting too much, barely warm food lately(common occurrence with Catering St Louis’ serving at the Ferring Jazz Bistro). This is not an exaggeration, I could not enjoy one bite of this dish. I burned my mouth and tongue trying. I worked around the edges and blew on the few bites I ate, still it was so hot I could not enjoy it. Ms T completely finished her garlic encrusted grouper and I had not eaten more than a few bites of my pie. I can honestly say that I don’t know if it was well seasoned, I could not taste it because it was so hot. I took nearly all of it home. Now for the lesson learned. When this was delivered to the table and I tried a bite, I should have recognized it for what it was, a casserole that was just taken out of a 550 °F oven. I would never think of sitting down with a casserole fresh out of the oven in a heavy ceramic dish and digging in. I should have asked for a separate plate and a serving spoon and dipped some out onto a plate and spread it out to cool as I would have at Mom’s table. It would have worked, but I did not think of it. The leftovers are still in our fridge, 36 hours later and I think they are still pretty warm and my mouth is still suffering. The service is annoyingly attentive. They really need to back it down a notch or ask you when you arrive, «Sir, do you wish to be bothered between every bite tonight or would you prefer to enjoy your meal?» By the time we were seated we had explained to three different people how we were doing on that particular evening. Our server(three times) and a management type(once) asked how«everything is tasting». And the water boys, oh the water boys, there are hoards of them. You will not go without water here. If you so much as drink one swallow from your glass, it will be refilled promptly. Next time I will refuse a glass. Don’t go with any complicated conversation topics planned, you won’t be able to sustain them. All that being said the food really was decent, probably 3−½ stars. Since Bishop’s Post is very close to home, I think we should go once in a while, especially since Wildhorse Grill is now closed. We just need to learn the menu and I need to chill out(a fervent request from Ms T).

Bishop’s Post is recommended by a local friend of mine. It’s been open 3 weeks at the time of my visit. This place has a very nice outdoor seating area with waterfall and unique landscaping. I recommend outdoor seating if the weather permits. Food: I liked the razor clams and the wedge salad. As for the crab crakes, stay away. The crabs are not fresh, possibly from a can. I’m spoiled from being in DE, having real crab cakes so this place isn’t even close. As for the entry, the Blackened Ribeye I had was terrible. The ribeye had way too much seasoning. From experience living in KC(Steak country) and dining in NYC weekly, a lot of seasoning on a steak is just covering up a bad cut of meat. If you have good quality steaks, all you need is sea salt, cracked pepper, and olive olive then grilled to perfection(just a dash of other seasoning as needed). Possibly the worst $ 32 steak I’ve ever had, I only took 2 bites. Drinks: The Moscow Mule and Manhattan are awesome. Good drinks, a bit on the weak side. Service: Exceptionally good team work. Overall: Nice atmosphere, overpriced average food, good drinks, and good service. Nothing special, try it once and done. Hope you enjoyed my brutally honest review. I don’t sugar coat nothing!!!
