1÷28÷1611:15pm. Walked in and the sign said wait to be seated. Five minutes later no one sat us. Two other groups in line walked out. Staff was in the back talking and enjoying themselves. The cook had to leave the grill to tell us to sit anywhere. Every table, and I mean every, except for one was dirty. Staff was still isolated in the back. We sat down and waited 10 minutes. No one came over. Watched another group walk in and leave because of no service. Cook was working. Rest of the staff still in the back. Finally got up and left. Steak and Shake corporate site has no place to contact them. The effort of this franchise to provide quality food and service must be reflective of the corporate culture — lacking.

I stopped in here with my two young children on our way to the Science Center. Something we thought would be a quick lunch turned out to be ‘anything but’, and we nearly canceled the Science Center plans because it took us about an hour and a half at this place and we would only have a few hours at the SC. This place was really crowded, however we were able to get a seat within about 7 minutes. That was the quickest part of our visit. About 10 minutes later, the server showed up and bluntly said«what can I get you to eat?». Well lets see… Considering we had no menus and had not even been able to put in a drink order we will just ‘wing it’. After we gave him an order, the server stopped back by with our drinks about 10 minutes later. As he shows up at our table holding the drinks up on the tray, he drops the glasses of soda where they came crashing down on our table, getting soda and one everywhere… On us, the table, the floor etc. I was amazed because it’s like they had no plan of attack on how to clean this up. He brought out a few paper towels to wipe off the table, completely ignoring the pool of soda and ice on the floor. After we asked about the floor, he brought out a mop(another 7 minutes or so) and gave it a half measure on cleanup. Ice was still all over the floor and an elderly woman walking past slipped and nearly fell. Customers ended up helping to pick up the ice so someone would not fall. The silverware that was still wrapped up in the napkins was completely drenched, as was the kids menus(to color on). They didn’t see a need to give us a replacement on those I guess. Once this calamity was somewhat taken care of, our server went to another table to deliver their food. Again while holding the plates on the tray he managed to drop their plate of fries on the table. I just watched those people shake their head while they appeared to wonder what his issue was. After that, he went to another table to give them their drinks… Guess what happened… He spilled the soda! Unfortunately they did not even get the complimentary table or floor cleaning. It was just unreal… I really thought there was a hidden camera somewhere. By the time our food arrived(about an hour), our server dropped some silverware on the floor. We went ahead and picked that up as he seemed to plan on leaving it there. Needless to say we have seen enough here and will not be back. Note to management… What, in, the HELL, is going on at this place!!! The reviews of this location are horrible and I will be notifying the corporate office of this experience… It was a complete disaster.

If I could give this location zero stars, I would. My kids wanted a simple burger and fries. We sat in the drive through for 20 minutes and received the wrong order. I don’t know how you can screw up somethings as simple as a burger but they manage to do it!!!

I love the food when it’s made and served properly, but this location has messed that up for me more often than not. Slow, inaccurate service. These people need only look across the street at Chick Fil A to learn how to run a restaurant.

This place obviously has real issue’s showing that most reviews are 1 star. I ordered the Frisco Chicken sandwich. When I received it the sandwich bread was not toasted and soggy with butter. I didn’t make a big deal about it. So I brought it in so I can get two pieces of toasted bread to fix it myself. I didn’t ask for a manager but he so happened to be the one at the front. So I showed him the sandwich and ask for only toast to fix it. Well, he decided to ask the cook to make me a new one. The cook looked pretty pissed off about it and was showing it with actions. The manager did not apologize for her actions or the way the sandwich turned out. So he was just as rude. Once I got the sandwich back the bread had been burnt. I did not want to deal with the ignorant people there so I just took it and left. This place needs to do some staff house cleaning. Don’t eat here unless you want to see a group of angry employees who hate their job!

Worst steak N shake we’ve ever been to. Took over an hour to get our food, my burger had a big chunk of onion on it so we asked for more and she brings me out frozen onions. All the catch up bottles were empty on the tables. No paper towels in the bathrooms. Floors were so slick you could ice skate on them. People standing at the door waiting to be seated and no one even acknowledges them. Just total chaos! Poor management!

Ate there for my first time. Enjoyed the meal. Appreciate them being open on Christmas Day. Hard to find a place to eat when traveling during Christmas. Veronica provided excellent service for our party of 12. Will definitely stop in again when passing thru this area.

Me and my family went here because we love steak and shake. But after coming here i’m going to rethink Steak N Shake. We was told by server that we can’t kids cup because they were all dirty and no body was washing any at this time. Order a bacon burger and it came out with no bacon because they have no more bacon. And it was cool just like the rest of our food. I know people need jobs but if you don’t like serving people you need to it a NEWJOB !!! P. S. There are to many people who work to hard in the food industry to let people like the ones at this steak and shake to make them look bad. I have to give them one star but they don’t deserve that.

Horrible services. Employees didn’t acknowledge us for 5 minutes and when we were finally directed to our table the table was dirty and had standing water underneath our table. Our server, Tyeisha, was really rude and made us retrieve our food from her tray. I caught Tyeisha with her hands in her mouth which i took a photo of and placed on Unilocal.Tyeisha failed to wash her hands before serving our food. This was the worst food experience that I have ever encountered. I will never go back to this steak n shake again. Employees do not value their jobs and it shows with their service.

Oh my god! Worst service ever and we didn’t even get to sit down. 4 groups of people left while we were waiting for a table. One of them had already been sat. Watched a server leave the building to smoke as her table came up looking for their check. Useless manager came up and asked if he could help me, I said we needed to be sat and he walked away. We left after 15 minutes of standing. Never going their again, staff was useless. Oh and the drive thru was broken so they were not backed up from that. No excuse for this horrible experience.

My kids wanted Steak and Shake and I dreaded going back to this place again. The plan was to use the drive through but as we drove up a hand made sign taped to the speaker said, «sorry, drive through closed today.» I parked and went it. I felt bad for the manager because you could see he was busting his«behind» and was very short on help. People lined up to pay, the phone kept ringing, and this poor guy was trying not to burn the burgers. Much to their credit the staff behind the counter were all friendly and attentive while they struggled to keep up with the demand. There were two scruffy older guys eating at the counter and demanding way too much of the staff’s time but I was impressed how calm and polite the staff remained. I quickly accepted my fate and stayed calm, waiting my turn to order and get my carry out. They did their best but I felt bad that these young people working so hard and remaining so professional were put in that position. Not sure if all Steak and Shakes are going down hill or just this one but I won’t be going back there again… well at least not for a very long time. The owners of this restaurant need to figure things out or they’ll be gone very soon. But then, maybe they’ve already figured out that they’ll be gone soon and that’s why they don’t staff this location properly to give those poor kids a fighting chance.

It took them 45 minutes to bring me the wrong order. My mother and my brother’s food was nice and cold – they had ordered burgers and fries, so I expect it being cold was just the best thing ever! /Sarcasm. I ordered the fried chicken salad, and received a big salad with what appeared to be the most ineptly *grilled* chicken on top, not fried. This was unfortunate for me, because I don’t eat their grilled chicken. I don’t know what they do to it, but I’ve never once had grilled chicken there that didn’t make me ill. Never mind that the salad itself looked to be old. Ugh. I feel bad for the waitress who served us, because she seemed sweet and was quick to take our order and refill our drinks, but it seemed like her kitchen coworkers just didn’t give a shit. I’m honestly surprised this particular Steak ‘n Shake is still open. I will not be going back.

We stood in the entrance for 10 minutes waiting to be seated while there were only a few tables occupied. We waited for Our server was the worst server I’ve ever seen. I originally ordered a Cookie dough shake, until I noticed they had Nutella shakes. I asked my server if they had started on the shakes yet, and if I could change my shake. She looked at me like I was stupid and was like«yeah» in an annoyed voice. We waited for our food for 30 minutes, and We got our food before we got our shakes. She brought the shake I had asked for originally instead of the one I changed it to. Next complaint is the food. My sandwich’s bread had what could only be described as white«lint hair» all over it. It’s disgusting. I took my sandwich up and asked for a new one to be made. When I got my new one, it had the same stuff on it, so it was probably on the grill. Yuck! Along with that, my burger was a sad excuse for a burger. One side of my sandwich was 98% bread. While there, we noted 3 groups of people who walked out of the restaurant due to wait times. There was even one lady who walked up to our server and asked«is there something specific we need to do to get served in here???» They weren’t even very busy, so the wait times were unnecessary. Easily the worst service I’ve ever had. Will not be going back. Do not go.

First, I have given Steak ‘n Shake two stars only because of the amazing food and the kind manager. If both the food and the manager’s attitude did not matter, then this location would have received only one star. Still that would be a very generous rating. :-) Let me begin with our waitress. Our waitress is probably amongst the top five worst waiters/waitresses I have met in my life. We asked our waitress politely to get someone to clean our filthy table covered with mustard and ketchup; however, she did not respond politely and said«I know» in a sarcastic tone of voice. From this, all fire broke loose. Our waitress and her boss were engaging in a feud over diners not being attended to. The atmosphere in the restaurant turned cold, and not to mention absolutely disgusting when I had to use the facility. The sink was broken, the towel dispenser was broken, the waste bin was overflowing, and there was«brown» on the chair, so I got the heck out of there! Oh, and did I mention there was a worker sleeping in the restaurant? Yes, sleeping!

I’ve worked in the food industry before, and I understand that’s it’s difficult to work with the public all day and handle the volume at times. HOWEVER, this place was not at all busy and my friend and I were very kind to our server. The food took 45 minutes and was cold when it came, refills were nonexistent(along with our server), and the staff were rude and walked around as slow as molasses. This place is dismal. A disaster. Hopefully new management turns it around or it just shuts down.

First of all, I must say, I have not simply walked out of an establishment in over seven years. That being said, I had to walk out of this Steak and Shake after getting my shake, and before I was even able to order food. ***Beware, the following story is frustrating and may make you angry by proxy. My wife and I were at the vet picking up antibiotics for one of our dogs, so we decided to stop into Steak and Shake for a «Happy Hour» milk shake and some late lunch. We walked in and noticed a heavily staffed restaurant and very few patrons inside. Sounds great eh’? Not so much. We were seated by a rather harsh woman who seemed to be angry about something. From halfway across the restaurant she asked us, «How many», I stated, «Two please.» She grabbed two menus and tossed them on a table halfway across the restaurant. She didn’t say, «Right this way», or, «Over here please», or even, «This table here bitch». She simply tossed the menus down and walked away. Less than a minute later she came over and loudly stated, «You know what you want yet?» We hadn’t even had a chance to open the menus. We asked for another minute and she walked away. No silverware, no drink order, no waters, no anything. She came back over and we ordered the two shakes we wanted. She took our order and walked away briskly. Mind you, we are one of only three groups inside a FULLYSTAFFED restaurant. It’s not like she was busy or being pulled in ten different directions. After a few minutes she brought us two child’s sized waters with a few cubes of ice and walked away. No formalities or friendliness. The whole time I could hear staff throwing things in the kitchen and glass breaking, along with loud shouting and laughing. Ten minutes later our shakes arrived… in Styrofoam cups with lids on them. My wife and I didn’t order them to go, and didn’t ask for Styrofoam cups. When we took the lids off we both realized our shakes were totally mis-made. I ordered a Smores’ Shake, which is supposed to come with chocolate and nuts/graham on top. There was nothing on top but the plain whipped cream, and my wife’s Caramel Apple shake didn’t have any caramel on it. The Styrofoam cups were barely half full and both were only partially mixed. We still didn’t have any silverware and I was forced to find my own spoons since there were five staff members in the area and none of them seemed to be able to hear us. I took one spoonful of the shake an realized it wasn’t mixed properly and tasted terrible. I was totally frustrated, so I started looking around to try and relax. I noticed two workers sitting in the back, kicked back like they were at home, and the manager was having to bus tables and seat people due to the overall laziness of the staff present. The guy or girl assisting with bussing tables had a cough like he/she was terribly sick and didn’t know how to cover his/her mouth. We waited a few more minutes and I had had enough. I stood up and walked over to the manager. I asked her politely if I could speak with her, to which she happily obliged. We walked to my table so I could speak with her away from the«kicked back» staff members. As we approached my table, our waitress flew over and asked if everything was«OK»…I was so angry, so incredibly angry, that I found it best to just be quiet and inform the manager that she could keep the shakes, which were barely touched, and that we were leaving. Our waitress then tried to do some damage control and said, «Do you want a free shake to take with you?» I politely stated, «No» and walked out with my wife, biting my lip so hard it still hurts hours later. I waited a few hours to write this review so I could keep it civil, and tomorrow I will be calling the Steak and Shake myself to calmly explain why I had to leave to the manager. I don’t expect much, and if you read any of my reviews you will find I am a pushover when it comes to most things. I love to eat, socialize with my wait staff and enjoy the generally hospitable atmosphere you find in St. Louis eateries. I love to tip large, and I realize food service is a challenging industry, but this was just too much for anyone to have to endure. I only wish someone with the authority to fix this situation will read this review and do something to rectify the complete disregard for customer service, but in the mean time I just want to prevent anyone else from having to experience this type of treatment from a such a well known chain.

Ahhh… The Midwest version of Waffle House. This is where you come when a bit over indulgent in your bar night. Cheap decent burgers and opened 24 h? Yes, like Waffle House, every hour is the opportunity to sell another burger. So if you head into a Steak n Shake — don’t expect the gourmet burger… expect the patty melt. But so way better than In and Out or McD’s
