This is a fine place. I did drive-through. Have been here a few times. Always drive-through. Mostly for a diet cola. My dogs get groomed close-by, so I came here after dropping them off the morning of September 15. I made the mistake of ordering an Egg McMuffin. I forgot that it has Canadian bacon. I much prefer a sausage patty. My fault. I ordered incorrectly. But it was good. The English muffin was well-toasted. The cheese was melted. I just so wanted that sausage patty. And I ordered a senior coffee, which was so hot, I couldn’t drink it until I got home. It was good coffee, once it cooled down a bit. Like. .. really good coffee. Price break on the senior coffee. And they didn’t ask for an ID. Ohhhh. .. . crap!

Collectively, I’ve had some pretty crappy experiences at this Golden Arches Supper Club location. Here are the high points of my experience yesterday: me: I’ll have an egg mcmuffin please McIdiot: bacon or sausage? me: just a regular egg mcmuffin will be fine McIdiot: ok, so you just want egg, cheese and the mcmuffin — no meat? me: no, I would like a regular egg mcmuffin the way they are always made McIdiot: so what do you want on it? me: egg, cheese, canadian bacon… all on an english muffin McIdiot: ok, now I understand… me: can I also have a plastic cup for water? McIdiot: sure(hands me a paper cup) Of note, the guy after me received two completely different sandwiches than he ordered. After witnessing my order taking debacle he told her not to worry about trying to get his food re-made. Other low points are as follows: 1. Kid 2 found an ant walking around on her breakfast sandwich one day. I took it back to the counter and a teenager who either worked there or the gas station(not sure which — she was not wearing a uniform) told me that they have a HUGE problem with ants every spring. Seriously!?! 2. Out of shamrock shakes about 2 weeks before their scheduled end date. 3. A word of advice — NEVER agree to pull up and let them bring your order to you — it will be less than 50% accurate. Happened to me twice but won’t ever happen again. 4. The hours on the door seem to be more along the lines of a general time frame when they will be open for business than an accurate representation of when you will be able to get something to eat or pickup/return a redbox movie.

The previous two reviews are old. I visit the drive-thru here, frequently. Always fast. Order has always been right. The only wonky part is the access in and out, being at the corner of two busy, 4-lane streets. But, I’ve never had to wait too long getting in and out. Inside the restaurant — I’ve only been in a couple of times. Small. Was kinda’ dirty the last time I went in. In the context of fast food in Keokuk and the surrounding 10+ miles, this is probably one of the better options.

So a talk thread about our favorite chain restaurants made me crave a chocolate milkshake from McDonald’s. I found myself out in Chesterfield(not my usual stomping ground) and decided to pick one up in the drive thru at this location. I should have known something was up when I asked for a chocolate milkshake and the ordering screen showed that I ordered a small coke. Um, no, I didn’t. When I got to the pick up window I was handed my small shake. It looked orange. Funny, I thought. I took a sip, and it tasted like rotten fruit. Ooh, funny, I ordered a chocolate milkshake, but they gave me an «arctic orange» milkshake instead. At this point, I parked my car, went inside and had to explain to the gaggle of teens behind the counter what was up. They apologized profusely(hence the bump up to 2 stars) and gave me my chocolate shake. Sweet Jeebus, you guys, is it really that hard to get a one item order right?
