Closed. Not open for over a year. Just two days ago, a big section of the Hitching Post Inn, of which this place was a part before it closed, burned.

after the Unilocal reviews, I sought out this place. CLOSED. Difficult to know if it was temporary or permanent. No one around to ask. Nothing posted. Very disappointing. It was during the Frontier Days and you’d think they’d be trying to draw in crowds.

This is where I normally stop and have dinner while traveling back and forth. Besides it’s close to my motel. The food here is very good as is the service and prices. Have never had to wait for a seat, table, booth whatever. But, be careful not to drop a piece of steak on the floor, because being out here in cowboy country if you do you just might have a coyote for a dinning companion. lmao

So, like others… a cross country trip brought us here. Actually, chance did. Yeah, that’s the ticket. We were looking for another place, that our GPS insisted was located on the train tracks near the Hitching Post… So, we figured, bleh. No. Not going to eat with the coyotes on the train tracks. Where else should we go though? We saw that there was a coffee shop and went for it. Luckily, we walked right by the front door of the CCC. Looked at the menu, saw an entire menu page dedicated to different steaks. We knew we had a dinner place. We were seated immediately, the waitress was genuinely friendly, and helpful. She also didn’t mind my special request for my t-bone, «cooked blue, with only salt and white pepper.”* Salad was totally midwest, iceberg lettuce and other things best forgotten. The bread was very well made, and came with pimento cheese. That stuff is dangerously addictive. The steaks came out together, perfectly cooked.(Important, one was ordered blue, the other, medium.) My steak was a little too salty. However… the flavor. There is good beef. There is kobe beef. Finally, there is Wyoming beef. Holy crap. Meat quality and flavor wise, this is the best piece of cow I’ve ever eaten. Hands down. It had all those beautiful groovy steak flavors, well balanced, each having a solid voice, but working so harmoniously together. I was floored, which is hard to do, I used to be a saucier in a steakhouse, we thought we had good beef… I will be back, I will have more beef, and I will die happily knowing I’ve had a REAL steak. Don’t get me wrong, kobe is good, but doesn’t hold a candle to this flavor. *Blue is grilling terminology for the doneness level that is before rare. Basically, seared slightly, and cold in the middle.

Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with Cheyenne Cattle Company. Here’s the breakdown of my meal: — Rocky Mountain Oysters: I’ve always wanted to try these and they had them on the menu, so I figured I’d go for it. They’re honestly not bad at all, so if you can get over the weirdness factor of eating testicles, you should definitely give them a try. — Pre-dinner salad: Just an average salad, nothing special. — Bread and the weird cheesy spread they bring with the bread: This was excellent. The bread was good and fresh and the spread was really flavorful and delicious. — Buffalo Ribeye(medium-rare) and horseradish mashed potatoes: The steak wasn’t tender at all — I had to saw through it with my knife. It was seasoned well and cooked just the way it should’ve been though. If this had been a better piece of meat, it probably would’ve been really good. The mashed potatoes were extremely bland, even after I added a ton of salt and pepper. There was absolutely no horseradish flavor in the potatoes, so I’m not sure why they’re even called horseradish mashed potatoes. I’d say Cheyenne Cattle Company was just so-so. The next time I’m in Cheyenne, I probably won’t be making a stop here.

The Best Beef-Period. Out of all the places I’ve been, this is by far my favorite. I think I heard Frank(Sinatra) singing while I dined. On a cross-country adventure we came upon the Hitching Post Inn(a part of Ramada) and discovered that, amazingly, nestled within, laid the Cheyenne Cattle Company. They actually do «set the standard for quality beef, buffalo and lamb,» as their website claims. We had the prime rib, which melted, and the buffalo filet, both phenomenal, and both served with delicious, skin-as proof-they-are-real mashed potatoes and broccoli(just for color I’m sure). I typically reserve the term«orgasmic» for moments like this but it was something more this time… more like a religious experience. The actual dining area is small and a little too rustic for my tastes, think antlers as décor. The hotel it’s situated in is nothing special and looks pretty shabby from the exterior but is defiantly worth being able to stumble back to the room with a happy, happy tummy! None of my photos really turned out because I was so distracted by what was sitting in front of me. But I’ll be back. Oh, I’ll be back!
