Been coming here since I was born… literally, my parents took me here when I was just a few weeks old. Best Italian ice I’ve ever had. Highly recommend lemon and cantaloupe flavors, but I’ve tried almost all the flavors and have enjoyed them all. Not to mention, Zarlengo’s has the best soft serve ice cream I’ve ever had and it comes with a little cookie on top. I can’t recommend this place enough to people who like cold treats. Only bummer is when it’s closed in the winter.

Ugh, I love Italian ice! Was looking for a great place in Illinois, and I’m so glad my friend introduced me to this place! So many great options! I had an Arctic Cooler w/Mixed Berry Italian ice & the soft serve ice cream! The soft serve is excellent! The Italian ice is also excellent! So happy & pleased! I will definitely come again! I want to try the gelato next time I come too! A tip for everyone though: CASHONLY!

The wait is too long for a scoop of ice cream even when there are no people in line. They are always running out of flavors. They call your number up after 10 minutes of waiting just to tell you they don’t have the flavor you want. What are they doing back there milking the cow themselves?

A great little spot with many options to cool your center in these hot months, with decent prices to boot… definitely gonna add to my collection of must haves

The best Italian Ice I have ever had. As a matter of fact, it’s so good that it’s borderline addicting.

Absolutely delicious gelato! We got a pint of the sweet basil and a quart of the salted caramel yesterday evening. Both were amazing. Everyone tried both and said that they were both winners and discussed a return visit to Zarlengo’s. Zarlengo’s is in a bit of a wasteland. Some surrounding businesses are shut down. It’s not a cute area to visit. Zarlengo’s name is a bit deceiving. They have soft serve, Italian Ice and gelato. They have over a dozen flavors of each. However, the menu is small in dimension(not content) and cannot be easily seen while standing in line. You stand in line(outside) and order at one of three windows. Cash only! They give you a number and call your number when your dessert is ready. There are some benches and tables on which to sit and enjoy your treat. The odor from the ordering window was off-putting for me. It smelled like mildew. Besides the long line for ordering, Zarlengo’s fits into the run-down area. The upkeep of the building does not match the success that the long line exemplifies.

A new addiction! Love this place. Well worth the hike to Chicago Heights. Lines get long but move fairly fast. They are definitely serving an authentic and yummy variety of Italian Ices. My daughter wanted to trade me her chocolate cone for my Pink Lemonade and Watermelon Italian Ice, she loved it so much. Tastes exactly like the actual fruit flavor. Didn’t noticed the Arctic Cooler until after I ordered, which is a combo of Italian Ice and soft serve in a cup, but think next time I might have to go for that. Excellent!

Yum… Yum. The arctic cooler is refreshing. The strawberry shortcake equally delicious and enormous. There is a line most of the time. Go in the afternoon on weekdays to avoid the wait. CASHONLY!

I worked a banquet serving job today in Olympia Fields today, and noticed this place on the way home, so I stopped in. As Bryan Adams would say, «So far, so good». All I tried so far was a Chocolate Italian Ice, but I definitely enjoyed it. I can’t wait to try their gelato and other tasty treats one day! Such as their ice cream cones and frozen bananas.

Just had a salted carmel gelato on a sticky warm Friday night. Perfect. And it feels like a local gathering spot.

I love love this place. I can’t wait for the summer because that means Zarlengos is open and I can get my soft serve and ice cream bars. This place stays packed especially on a nice summer day. I love the soft serve, boston shake, gelato and ice cream bars. My faves are the cake batter and dulce de leche gelato. Don’t let the long lines discourage you the service is very fast.

This place is outstanding. They have adventurous flavors that test what you think would not logically go well together. Very crowded on summer night, but worth it. I recommend going in the afternoon when you can sit at a table with an umbrella.

Zarlengo’s soft serve was worth the trip. I got the peanut butter mania. It featured super smooth vanilla gelato, homemade peanut butter sauce, hot fudge, crushed Reese’s peanut butter cups, and whipped cream. The plating was superb: the toppings came in 2 layers. This was my breakfast before a hike around the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park.

The Aztec Chocolate gelato has a delicious hint of chili. The coffee Zar Bar dipped in dark chocolate is so scrumptious. Countless flavors. We’ll be regulars now that we found it. Update: we used Zarlengo’s for our son’s wedding reception in our backyard. They delivered a cute cart with an umbrella and our guests enjoyed chocolate and vanilla Zar Bars with personalized packaging(the bride and groom’s first names) at no extra charge. People LOVED it. We loved it too! So easy.

You can’t spend a summer in Chicago Heights or the South Suburbs of Chicago without visiting Zarlengo’s Italian Ice and Soft Serve! A local staple, the Zarlengo family has warmed or rather chilled our hearts with their delicious homemade Italian ice full of fruit chunks and unique flavor combinations as well as their soft serve classic vanilla, chocolate or twist topped with a scrumptious cookie! I’m telling you, there is nothing like it. Believe me, I know. The line stays steadily long from opening day through the sad closing day in the fall. Prices are reasonable and you can’t go wrong with Zarlengo’s.
