John’s Automotive

John’s Automotive has been helping us for the past three years and has continually gone above and beyond with our car repair needs. They have always been accommodating in a crisis situation.

I was having suspension issues and was told by a friend that john’s automotive does free diagnosis so I decided to give them a call. Sure enough I was able to bring the car to them the very next day to be checked out free of charge. I was told that the car would be lifted up on their hoists and tires taken off to see exactly what was wrong with it. He said they would really check the car out and it would take about 30 minutes to an hour. When I got there, my car was pulled into the garage and within 2 minutes I was told my car was basically a rolling pile of junk and that I should sell it or junk it so I could buy one of their used cars. The guy working there didn’t hoist the car up or even take a tire off. All he did was push on the hood of the car, saw how much it bounced and said you need new shocks. He also mentioned that when the shocks go out that that typically causes wear on the other parts like ball joints and idler arm… but did he check those parts? NO… He basically told me that the cost of parts and labor would surpass the value of the whole car and that he wouldn’t even work on it for me because it was «a rat» and was leaking oil on his floor… The car is nearly 25 years old DUDE!!! Of course its going to leak a little bit of oil! Needless to say I got a few more opinions from mechanics who actually jacked it up and looked at it. The next 3 shops I took the car to told me exactly what was wrong with the car and that the parts and labor wouldn’t surpass the value of the car. All I needed was shocks, idler arm, stabilizer bar and a wheel bearing repacked. It cost me a total of $ 280 parts and labor out the door… My car might not be the most expensive, but I can tell you its worth a h*** of a lot more than $ 300. I truly thought this shop would have lived up to what my friend told me. I was wrong. If you are reading this I recommend taking your car somewhere else as I can almost guarantee that another shop will take the time to assess your car properly, unlike what this shop did.

BUYER BEWARE, THIS GUY IS A LYING CHEAT AND AN UNTRUSTWORTHY CROOK !!
I went in to this shop when I was in town visiting my parents for a front brake job and two days later they call for me to pick my car up and presented me with an invoice for $ 400 claiming that they replaced both front rotors and pads. When I got back to my parents home I took a closer look between my alloy wheels and noticed that my supposed «new rotors» had quite a bit of surface rust on them. When I called the shop and told him that my rotors were in fact not replaced, he sheepishly offered me a partial refund of $ 100, which I promptly drove over and took. The brakes were also still squeaking then and he said that the new pads would seat after a hundred miles or so. Now 3,000 miles later and back on the west coast my brakes are squeaking continually and my new honest mechanic showed me that they neglected to re-​surface the rotors when they replaced the pads and now I need the whole job done again !! If John’s Automotive would do this to an «out-​of-​towner, then he is not trustworthy for the local community. My parents have switched mechanics and now agree that John’s Automotive is a pathetically poor mechanic and a despicable lying rip-​off… AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!
