Was curious about Asian Outpost, I pass it often while visiting other restaurants in the area. I came across it on groupon and thought it was a perfect opportunity to taste the great fried chicken I heard about. The chicken was juicy and the crust was golden brown and delicious, I also tried the beef & broccoli it was a bit salty and I’ve had better. The cornbread was cold and a smaller portion than anticipated. The décor and atmosphere was a delight a bit quiet, but it was date night so I enjoyed being able to have a conversation. All in all I would definitely visit again, so I can try the sushi.

Food was okay. It wasn’t anything special. The beef with broccoli was a little salty for my taste.

Excellent food! My friend and I had the Brussels sprouts and lettuce wraps. Both were very flavorful.

I’m usually too lazy to write reviews but OMG this place. My friend and I ordered the Roasted Pork Belly Sliders 2 for appetizer, Gamma Vegga roll, Spicy Crab roll and Mom’s Ginger Garlic Fried Chicken(half chicken 4 pieces). The rolls were fresh, visually appetizing and above all, SOYUMMY! The chicken was crispy on the outside(a bit salty for my taste but I’m sure it will be just the appropriate amount of salt) and tender on the inside. For the 2 sides, we ordered corn bread and sweet potato salad(both very good). The Pork Belly Sliders were so soft, sweet and fresh. Service was okay, it being my first time and all. Nothing too outstanding but the people working there(including our waitress) seemed nice. I like the interior as well. Lots of cool vibes. This is the kind of food that makes me happy. Will go back again. (Plus they do delivery!)

Ordered from here twice now. Once for delivery sushi, delivery was fast, fish was fresh, and very delicious! Ordered take out tonight. Spicy garlic ramen is awesome! Pork belly was perfect! The Shoyu was also very good, but definitely liked the garlic better.

Believe the hype about the fried chicken! Shockingly good. I’d proceed cautiously with the sauce though. Cornbread was also unexpectedly delicious and unique. These folks got soul!

Went to this restaurant for a birthday party, it was really nice. I loved the decoration which was authentic Asian. The reception and presentation was great. The food was delicious and I liked the dessert as well. Highly recommended place to go to.

I love the atmosphere and the fact that it has options for organic or brown rice is good in my books!

Asian output is VERY asian fusion. Definitely taking Thai, Japanese, American… and combining them in very interesting ways. Appetizers: I had the pork belly sliders which were wonderful. I think pork belly is fantastic, but this was perfectly crunchy and tender. My friend had the Spicy Nutty noodles which he didn’t love. It was a little heavy on the sauce apparently. I had the tonkatsu ramen which was delicious! Wonderful on a colder day… Service was great!

I really love this place. I get the dragon roll and spicy crab and never have an issue. I also order the ribs, which is amazing. The sweet and spicy bbq sauce is delicious. My first experience was take out and this time I had the opportunity to order take out again, but picked up the food myself. What a wonderful place to dine at. The staff was very nice and fast with getting my order started. The moment you walk in the door there are shelves of herbs that is really welcoming. The décor is the best I have seen at an Asian joint in a long time. I want to light an incense and drink tea all day in here. 4 stars for the crazy loop prices, but the food is good and will see me heading back this way soon.

We started with a sashimi sample which was amazing and fresh. Then ramen noodles! I have the veggie one with some shrimp. It was very good. The service is wonderful and the place really nicely decorated and great atmosphere.

Came here for a large group dinner and thought the prices were very reasonable for Chicago. The sushi tasted fresh — I didn’t order any special rolls, just a basic spicy tuna, so I can’t talk too much about any of those types of rolls. I also ordered their fried chicken — it was super crispy, nicely seasoned and came with a interesting sweet sauce. I think the chicken pieces were a bit small, but I’d probably still order it. I also liked the slaw side — not mayo dressed, but more like a vinaigrette and was freshly dressed so it had a great crunch. The cocktails were very pretty — as mine came with an flower — but also packed a nice punch. We were expecting the difficulty of breaking up the check as we came in with 11 people, but they graciously separated our checks for us! I totally get why people like this place.

Great atmosphere! Love the service here! The booths are nice and cozy, spacious. The food is very good too, with a variety of options in the Asian culture. Sometimes I feel like sushi, but others I feel like Ramen and other noodle or rice, cooked dishes. Even the kids are satisfied with the fried chicken and cornbread! The drinks look better than they taste, but it could’ve been that day… A little watery from what I tried. You can’t really go wrong with the wine, haha but even theirs is less tasty(too long on the shelf?) I’ll try the delicious-looking Lychee martini next time, but I hope I get what I’m expecting… Food is pretty good though, some rolls better than others but overall it’s fresh and tasty. Yes, like everyone says the pork belly sliders are good, but also could be better… The new Flying Tiger Maki roll is pretty amazing though. Along with the Black Stone. My favorite might be the Latin Cousin– awesome.

A short review: Fried Chicken very good worth getting breast was a little dry. Ribs nice and tender, good Asian BBQ sauce not the ultra red kind. The Unagi was nice just okay. How ever the pork belly bun was excellent, not normally a fan of buns, this was tops, please get it. Service was strange, when they were around it was great, but they would come and go for long periods of time. My friend and I were out for the night so time wasn’t an issue, that being said if time was an issue … Overall I’m going back for sure, I hope I can update with a well written review.

I’m always skeptical to try Asian restaurants since I’m Asian myself so I have super high standards for Asian cuisines. This place was good though! The SO and I ordered a ginger ale, mango soda, salmon avocado roll(50% off if you check in on Unilocal!), garlic ginger chicken with the cornbread side and a shoyu ramen. I LOVED my mango soda. I normally don’t drink soda but I wanted a cold drink and our waiter, Dominic, told me that they make the soda fresh so I figured why not? The mango was refreshing and actually tasted like it was made of real mangos instead of syrup which is a plus for me. Salmon avocado roll was standard, generous amounts of avocado which I love! My garlic ginger chicken was good, I just wished there was more garlic flavor. The SO loved it though! The shoyu ramen was tasty. Not the best ramen compared to shops that specialize in only making ramen but still good. Overall, pretty good food, nice ambiance, and good service!

This place has the best tasting fried chicken! Definitely coming back for these! Sushi was very good as well. I tried the spider — yum! I’m going to try more rolls next time. The ambiance is pretty unique and reminds me a bit of restoration hardware. Overall the highlight of the meal was the chicken. We went when the restaurant wasn’t so busy so we were serviced promptly. The owner came by towards the end of our meal to see how our dining experience was which is appreciated.

I ordered the same food as last time, the pork belly sliders with the fried chicken. The sliders were as good as before and the chicken was better. It was more flavorful and non-greasy. Also our server was awesome. I didn’t realize that they closed at 9pm on Thurs so we strolled in around 8:55. No one gave us attitude or rushed us which was great(and probably hard to do!).

3.5 stars. Ordered: Spicy crab: soft shell crab with spicy crab meat(I recommend– was tasty!) Sashimi platter(presentation was great!) Beef skewers(mediocre) Flourless Chocolate Cake(rich and thick) Went here on a Sunday night. Quiet. I thought the sushi was overall mediocre. Sashimi platter was not the freshest I’ve had but was alright. If I were to return, I would try the hot dishes. –Street parking with meter –full bar

I am torn for Asian Outpost. They try, I mean they really do. But after today’s visit, we decided we’ve had our fill and sadly, we may not be returning again. The food and service are both above average but the food(quasi Asian, quasi Sushi) is not stellar! Today was our third visit and now, we’ve tried everything from their bok choy Salmon, Asian Steak, Sushi rolls, Sashimi platter, Garlic Fried Chicken, Lettuce Wraps etc. pretty eclectic, huh? The sashimi platter is awesome value since you get 15 pieces of generous cuts for $ 25, but they aren’t the right cuts and hence it’s average. Sushi rolls once again average. What did stand out was the garlic fried chicken with a side of corn bread. It appears that Asian Outpost needs to figure out their identity, redo their menu and refresh their space. Sadly, they’ve been running a Groupon forever now(great value) and in all our visits, the place has barely been busy. I hope better times lie ahead.
