This place is RIGHT down the street from me. Love the vibe and the staff is very pleasant, but I’m not a fan of the pricing. $ 6 is a bit steep for me. The coffee is good, but Dark Matter is just as amazing(probably a bit better) and not even this pricey!

Before I came here I read the other reviews, and when I walked in I almost laughed. Several of the reviews mention loud punk music, so I walked in expecting whatever music to at least be loud — they were literally playing the soundtrack from Schindler’s List, followed by what sounded like a playlist from a massage spa, and at a reasonable volume. It was so quiet I actually felt like I was being too loud when placing my order! Most likely music gets chosen by whoever is working, and there’s an employee who likes punk. Doesn’t bother me whatever music plays, but to each their own I guess. The food was delicious! Lots of ways to go whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or a meat-eater. A little on the pricey side but I expect as much when a place is so organic forward, and tax is included in the price on the board. Under $ 15 for a tasty sandwich with a side of chips and salsa plus an iced coffee. Coffee is good too! One girl working and she was very nice. Layout is interesting, like an old diner or cafeteria, good for sitting with a book or getting work done.

5 stars for the vegan milkshakes. The best in Chicago, even better than the Chicago Diner because you can add a shot of espresso and get moca flavors and caffeine all in one delicious frosty vegan drink.

I love their coffee, music and breakfast bagels. Very laid-back vibe. Place is spacious, big and comfortable, this is somewhere you can go to read a book or bring your laptop. It’s definitely my neighborhood spot.

I work remotely and like to set up shop in the various coffee shops in the area. I had been going there on occasion, but after today, I won’t be back. In general, most of the people who work there are pretty unfriendly, if not downright rude. Today, one of the staff came by my table and said, «You’ve been here 5 hours, can I get you anything else?» It was obvious that she wanted me to leave, so I did. It would be one thing if this was a restaurant instead of a coffee shop, and I was taking up a table in her station. I would also understand if I had been there the entire time without placing an order. However, I had already made a couple of trips to the counter ordering food and drinks — plus there were plenty of empty tables available for other customers. In general, the place feels like a diner instead of a cozy coffee shop — plus they play their music really loud, which makes it hard to work. Most people who go to coffee shops during the weekday are remote workers who stay for a few hours, so coffee shops should be mindful of that.

Pros: *Located right next to the bus stop(66 bus) *A lot of seating(looks like old diner-style seating; loving it) *Music is a good volume level and seems to be in French possibly. But it’s perfect coffee shop study music. *They have 2 wifi thingies. There’s ATOMIX1 and ATOMIX2, and both seem to work. *Coffee is good! *Beautiful mugs; I love the logo thingy design *Tax is built in to the drink prices Cons: *It’s not cheap, although it’s important to remember that there’s tax already built in. Lattes/cappuccinos are $ 4 for 12oz, mochas are $ 5. Add a dollar for each size up. *Not sure what else! Solid place :)

Love this place. I’ve been working remotely in West Town for a few months now, and generally find myself planted at a nearby coffee shop a couple times a week. Atomix is one of my favorites. Greatest prices I’ve found(especially $ 4 for a bottomless cup of coffee), food that tastes good and doesn’t make you feel terrible about yourself, and a relaxed, cafeteria-like atmosphere that lets you get work done while feeling relaxed. They play a variety of great music at all times and usually aren’t totally packed like some places in the area. Lastly, the people here are just so nice. A couple times their payment system has gone down and they’ve been happy to still fulfill orders even if they couldn’t get paid right that second.

Atomix is a great coffee shop where I go to get school assignments done. The staff are always extremely friendly and the food and drinks are excellent. I usually get their black coffee or a latte of some kind. I have also had their chili and it is so delicious. My favorite thing about Atomix is that there is a plethora of outlets! This is great for a graduate student who is constantly writing papers and needing to charge my computer. Also, the music is relaxing great. I would highly recommend!

Great home made granola, good coffee and a funky Yuri Gagarin poster on the wall. What’s not to love?

Really friendly staff, chai latte was absolutely incredible, the honey walnut cream cheese for the bagel was killer, and really good tunes. Thanks for a great experience. Cheers

Coming back from the south side during the PM rush hours, it wasn’t cool. However, the worst thing was, I haven’t had my daily coffee fix. I bookmarked«Atomix» awhile ago because I saw some of my Unilocal lady friends’s reviews since Atomix used to participate in the Indie Coffee Passport program. Knowing this place opens until 9pm, we wouldn’t have to rush ourselves to get there. Well, Daddy J. was in luck, because they offer a 20oz. Americano with four(4) freakin’ espresso shots. He was elated! On the other hand, my salted caramel latte was literally a cup of «Christmas.» I imagined myself, chilling by the fireplace in the middle of winter, sipping this. Oh I forgot to add: with my yellow fuzzy sweater and my sparkling fuchsia scarf. Long story short, I felt the salted caramel latte was an ideal drink for the Christmas Eve. Atomix has an unspoken Logan Square vibe, even though it’s located in Ukrainian Village on the southeast corner of Damen and Chicago. Wifi is definitely working because I’m currently surfing on Unilocal… and writing my review.

With a bit of a cafeteria feel, the modesty of this coffee/sandwhich place was definitely unexpected! The guy working on Sunday morning was so patient and knowledgeable of his products. They also had so many baked vegan products that were coming right out of the oven as soon as we arrived(such good timing!)

Great sandwiches, vegan milkshakes(my favorite), and breakfast treats. The staff is very friendly. Prices are low for the quality of the food.

What can I say about this place? Good things. The folks who work here always have a smile in the morning and seen to appreciate a little a.m. humanity. They don’t seem to judge me for ordering a decaf americano, nor for buying their delicious day-old $ 1 pastries. The first time I came here, there was a couple at a table, both on laptops, the mom breastfeeding her infant peacefully, and no one made a stink about it. LOVEIT. The staff alone would give this place a great review, but the pastries and coffee are also top notch. My toasted bagel with cream cheese to go had the cream cheese on the side, something most places don’t consider when it comes to the chemistry of melting(aka disgusting) cream cheese. The little things here add up to a lot. They make my mornings happy. Five stars for them being a place I could hang out at all the time.

Atomix is one of the participating cafes in the Indie Coffee Passport. On yet another Spontaneous Friday, I came by for a drink and a stamp on my passport. Upon entering the café, I was greeted by the barista and she swiftly stamped my passport and made me a salted caramel latte. I’ve had salted caramel drinks before, but this latte achieved a consistent sea salt and caramel flavor throughout the drink. It wasn’t the sweetness of the caramel we get at Starbucks and Peet’s, but a light and smooth caramel flavor. I highly recommend the salted caramel latte here. In addition to the well-crafted drinks, there is booth seating and bright light for reading and studying. The baristas are attentive and patient. There is self-serve water and if you get your drink«for here,» you’ll get a mug with a chemical structure. Brings back memories of organic chemistry. In a good way. #SpontaneousFridays

Excellent pricing. Hippie vibe with modern conveniences. Decent selection of coffee/drinks and food. A trustworthy selection of vegan options. Plenty of seating. CHAILATTE — house made. Soy was suggested that yielded an interesting taste. I love the chemical structure of Atomix on the mug. Geeky unique.

In general, I liked the place. I had about two hours to kill and I didn’t want to leave the area, so I brought a book and that day’s Chicago Tribune and planned on camping out for a little while. They were rocking Danzig when I walked in, and to me that was a plus. I like Punk and Rock, and it doesn’t break my concentration if it’s on in the background. Other reviews are spot on when they claim it doesn’t have a cozy quality. It’s more as if they haven’t decided what to get rid of from the previous tenant, and what to add themselves. All those things aside, the wait staff was very nice. They even offered to refill my coffee for free instead of buying another cup on the way out. My large coffee was very cheap, but then again, I just drink black coffee. My one large gripe was that the bathroom was GRUNGY. I know this place is going for some indie punk vibe or whatever, but I don’t think that should extend as far as the bathroom. At the very least, could you refill the soap?

Fasten your seatbelts, this is going to be a bumpy rant. I do not understand why hipster cafes so frequently play loud music. Is that really what the people want? If the music is turned off will patrons storm out muttering about how quiet it is? Or maybe they’ll go straight to rioting and destroying things, just to drown out the quiet? Maybe it’s because I’m 90 years old, but I like coffee houses to keep the music at a low volume. Atomix didn’t have the music blaring like some cafes, but it was still loud enough to be annoying. And it was punk rock. I mean, come on. Ok rant over. No wait-there’s more. The only thing more annoying than loud music is being ignored by the cashier while he conducted a personal conversation. I finally had to just interrupt and ask if I could order. Cashier looked surprised. I had to fight the impulse to sarcastically apologize for disturbing him. Once he got around to making my latte, it was delish. Atomix is a pretty small place, which means on a crowded day you might be very close to your neighbors. It’s got an old school vibe, and the windows are lined with plants. Sitting in front of the window makes for good people watching, but overall it lacks that cozy feel that I like in a café. If you like good coffee served with a side of [insert punk band], this is your spot. If not, there’s plenty of other places to check out.

Coffee was ok and one of the guys who made our coffee was nice and one of the girls there was nice but another girl there was straight up RUDE. My wife and I went in because we live just a few blocks away and have never been there. We took our daughter there this afternoon and bought a latte and proceeded to the back of the shop and sat at the counter because all the other seats/tables were taken by people with their laptops/etc. I had not been seated in one of the stools for more than 10 seconds as one of the girls there took her attention away from the sandwich she was making(I think for herself) and said to me in a snarky voice, «UMMM I WASSITTINGTHERE». I said«Oh I’m sorry, I can move a few seats down» and then I did… She ignored my comments and gesture and went back to making her sandwich like we didn’t even exist. Didn’t even bother saying anything to us. My wife and I left shortly thereafter and probably will not be back. Overall, coffee was ok and they had a nice decent menu full of seitan sandwiches/etc but unless they change over their staff or at least train them on how to talk to customers, I won’t be back… ATOMICALLYRUDE.
