It was my first trip to Chicago. On our last morning there, we decided to have breakfast and stroll around Lincoln Park. I was drawn into this store by the sweetest smell of popcorn… imagine the cartoons when the person is possessed by food and starts floating towards it. That was me.
If I’m being honest, I had planned to pick up «Chicago style» popcorn from one of the big chains, but I’m so glad I didn’t. Instead, I met the owner Matt, and was so delighted to hear his story and support his small business.

I was lucky enough to be introduced to Bercos on a Chicago Food Tour! I say lucky because Matt helped pull together a quick order of favors to add to my Chicago themed welcome bags for a wedding. The World Famous Best Ever Mix is a nice twist on the normal Chicago mix popcorn and was loved by the wedding guests. Matt was super accommodating and knowledgable down to the type of bag the popcorn should be packaged in. Not only did everything taste great, it looked great too! Not to mention very reasonably priced. Absolutely can’t wait to try more flavors!

I received a small bag as a gift. It contained the Caramel and White Cheddar popcorns. Although I didn’t open it for a week, the popcorn was fresh and delicious! The Caramel Corn was full flavored but not overpowering and the Cheddar had the delicate yet distinctive flavor that I enjoy. I haven’t been to the store but the product is great.

Listen. Go to Berco’s, but realize that you will be forcing yourself to swear off those «other» brands of popcorn in Chicago. I am something of a popcorn connoisseur, and this popcorn is so fresh and so flavorful without being overpowering. I’m very sensitive to sugar, and the caramel isn’t heavy at all but is still indulgent. I try butter popcorn wherever I go – if a place can’t get butter right, why try anything else? – and the butter is perfection. Matt, the owner, is awesome and clearly serious about his craft. Avoid the tourists at the «other» places which may or may not start with «G» and go to Berco’s!

White cheddar is really good and overall I’ve always been pleased with the flavors.

Sorry Berco’s, just tried your popcorn and I can say I was not impressed. Garrett’s is much better and for that matter even movie theater popcorn is better. I tried the White Cheddar and it actually tasted stale and it was way too salty. This is just my opinion, sorry.

You simply must check this place out, whether you’re a tourist or longtime Chicagoan. Delicious, flavorful popcorn, a friendly staff and a cool Lincoln park vibe, Bercos is a true gem.

love the popcorn from Berco! I always get the truffle and white cheddar flavors and it tastes fresh and flavorful. the staff is nice and I like the way they package the popcorn (re-​sealable bag). the only reason I didn’t give one more star is because of the price. it’s addicting and I wish the proportions were bigger for the price — I could definitely finish the large in one sitting if I wasn’t paying attention!

The popcorn is delicious and the owner Matt is a peach! It was so nice meeting him and getting to walk up to his counter to see him making a fresh batch of cheese popcorn! Definitely worth checking out of you’re around Lincoln park!

Really loved the flavors of the popcorn. I got the white cheddar dusted with Northwood — the maple garlic salt. My oh my, it’s delicious. Bought a regular sized bag but none of the popcorn made it home. It was too good.
I would have, however, liked the popcorn to be more fresh. It was kind of just sitting there and if it wasn’t for the white cheddar flavor itself, the texture was lacking. I also sampled the caramel and the white truffle. I liked that the caramel wasn’t overly sweet like at Garrett’s but the white truffle was just okay. Not enough of the truffle-​y taste in my opinion.

So friendly, delicious, and local!
Great variety and really friendly owners & staff. I looooved the Northwoods (garlic & maple syrup? amazing!) and the carmel corn. :) Will be back again soon. It’s only $ 5 for a regular sized bag, which is worth the extra care and awesome ingredients. A most excellent treat or reward. You can even create custom flavors!

Classic with a couple unique original flavors.
Got the White Truffle popcorn and it was so fresh with loads of flavors. The place itself can probably improve with its sense of space. It’s kinda disjointed and odd.

Gourmet popcorn at it’s finest. Way Expensive White Truffle is exceptional and my favorite. Yes, pricey but worth the treat! Friendly staff, nice shop.

Bought a $ 30 one pound tin of the truffle popcorn. It wasn’t overwhelming taste of truffle on the plump popcorn. It came with a scooper and three plastic bags to share. Great staff service. I’ll try other flavors soon.

We met a guy from here at a charity event last night. I must disclose that I haven’t been in the store before, so I can’t speak to the experience there, but they were good last night. The guy was overly confident in his caramel corn which was good, but it wasn’t nearly as good as Mother Butters. The truffle corn was very good though. I generally find all things truffle to be a lot of hype because the word truffle is cool right now, but this stuff was actually very good. I’m also not a huge fan of this neghborhood, so I’m sure that played a part in my judgement. I’m sure I’ll stop in the shop when I’m in the neighborhood some day just so I have a true gauge of the brand, but I doubt it will slip into my «#1 Chicago Popcorn» title spot. Not that I’m not open to that, it’s just doubtful from what I’ve had.

Fantastic popcorn, friendly staff and reasonably priced (as far as gourmet popcorn shops go). It’s Impossible to try the White Truffle oil and not grab a bag of it.
Caramel corn was my favorite. The best I’ve ever had me thinks. (its a little saltier than typical caramel corn which I loved).
I’ll be back for sure.

This popcorn is absolutely delicious. The store is beautiful and modern. I love the simplicity in the décor which seems to reflect the simple, yet classic flavors in the popcorn.
You can add flare to the popcorn with chocolate and strawberry sugar as well as the seasoning from Chicago Q. We chose to keep it simple, but this sounds like a good option to try next time.
My husband described the white cheddar as «chef inspired». I loved the caramel the best. It’s definitely a step up from current Chicago options. Way to go, berco! We will be back!
