AWWWWW, get back open! I just returned to the City from a job assignment and I need you Blu 47! Staff was great, food was pricy but worth it and the local music was off the chain! You are missed!

COMEBACKBLU47!!! I hate that this place got burned tha hell up!!! I hope they re-open soon. The food there was amazing!!! The entertainment was very soulful to go with the food AND the drinks were on point and well worth the money. Super great staff, friendly service. Food took a while to get to us, but it was well worth the wait and the music held our attention. The atmosphere had a positive club feel to it. I wish I would have came to this great restaurant more than once! We saw it on G. Garvin’s show went there for my wife’s b-day! If this place don’t re-open soon I will use voodoo to resurrect Malcolm X and have him kill all the politicians in Bronzeville.

I will admit it looked scary at first. Being from NY, I’m expecting to see a large sign w the name of the rest. on the building :). «2nd fl» on Unilocal’s address helped me walk into this office looking building. Last minutes of what was left over from«brunch»(it was 3pm) made me think twice about spending $ 20. But I’m glad I did. Fried chicken and biscuits were good, waffle ok, yam and corn tasty, but on the dying side. But, you won’t have to wait 40 min to sit, like you do up the block and my daughter got a free, blow up reindeer toy! :) — so, good service as well

This place was pretty cool. I went a while ago though. But, I enjoyed it. My rating averages the atmosphere, the drinks and the food. 2 of which, was really good. However, the food just wasn’t good. I ordered the stuffed catfish and it was just nasty. I was so disappointed in it. My cousin ordered some pasta or fettuccine something dish, which was equally bad. She loved her food, and she liked my food, mind you, she doesn’t even like catfish. Personally, I think they can do away with the food and just have it a lounge spot. Love bronzeville too! I’d say it’s worth going.

I’m moving to the neighborhood. My friend and I stopped in on a Saturday night. The other guests were quite pleasant. I had the Blu 47, and it was fantastic. If you’re a fan of gin, martinis, or the color blue; you should try it. We also had two orders of asparagus. It was delicious. Our server seemed to have delayed reaction time, and the management seemed anxious. We still had a great time. I will return. I am a big fan of supporting local businesses. I do hope they step the customer service up a bit.

i was here for a private event so my experience may be different than those who go on a regular night. we thought that it would be buffet but it was more like we were served the dishes one at a time so it wasn’t even a plated dinner which i thought would have been more appropriate for a private event but whatevs. the service was just ok, but seeing as our group paid a lot of money for a lot of food and drinks, it kind of seemed like they were shamming on the food. they didn’t really seem to have enough so the portion sizes were small and the side eye came out if you asked for more. the drinks were good though and they may have been a little understaffed for our group size because it took a while to get items that were requested. overall though, the food was good and the space is really nice. but i haven’t been back… not saying that i won’t just saying that i’m not running.

I have tried to like this place, I really have. I lived in Hyde Park for two years and would occassionally stop in to have dinner or drinks. Each time, I’d leave feeling as if I’d paid way too much for the experience. The food is only«so so» and the drinks aren’t much better. But, the biggest disappointment has always, always, always been the service! The wait staff is simply not trained. Regardless of whether the place is only half full(never been here when it was truly crowded) or partially empty, the service is negligent. Latest Experience: Went to «Game Night». Arrived at 9:40 pm and there are about 40 patrons. Thus, they are not incredibly busy. Since I was meeting a friend, I opted to sit on a sofa in the main part of the restaurant. There were three other women sitting on the sofa across from me, so imagine my surprise when the waiter delivered their food… but didn’t ask if I needed help. After he walked away, I waited a few minutes, then flagged him down to request a menu. He promised he’d return with one… never did. After about three attempts, I finally caught another waiter who brought a menu… but did not ask if I wanted to order. About 45 minutes into this experience, I finally got someone’s attention… this lack of service continued through the evening. This could be such a wonderful place… if they’d polish their act!

I told myself i wasn’t going to write any negative reviews, but this place deserves it. Let’s see. The service was less than efficient, the hostess was rude, the silverware was a hot mess, but the bill was appropriate(to everyone except myself, seeing as I’d only had dessert) — then they came back with a bill twice as expensive claiming that we’d been issued the wrong one. We were a group of 15. You can only imagine how many cards and cash exchanges went on. All in all, if you value good service, pleasant hostesses, clean utensils, and correct bills(on the first try), then please, by all means, eat somewhere else. Aside from this, parking was ample.

Blue 47’s is one of those places you would consider anointing as an urban professional Cheers. The location is always full of good people and the music is always incredible! There is a dining room area with white table cloths with a separate lounge area. The dining menu has a diverse selection and I have always had nothing but great experiences with the wait staff. What I cant stop talking about is the lounge area! I have out grown the club scene and look for locations to have a drink or two and chat with friends. This place is more than ideal for that. The lighting is comfortable, the decorum is chic for mature adults. The lounge area allows for great appetizers and drinks. You must have a glass of wine or two before you leave!

i enjoyed stoppin in here. Wasn’t as packed as I hoped it would be but it was a wednesday. I heard Tuesdays are the days to come here bc they are ½ off appetizers. Ordered bottle of riesling and enjoyed a good conversation with a great friend. Lighting is nice. They have the restaurant in one area and the lounge on the other side. Loved the music they were playing. Was old school r&b which I am a huge fan of. I will definitely come back here on a tues & update review.

Every time I visit this place I always ask myself, «why the fuck did I even come here again!» This is one of those places stuck up people go to feel good about themselves. Forget about getting a drink at the bar because the patrons that are standing at the bar that are just observing the place(not even drinking) will snarl at you for trying to get by to order your drink. If you are lucky enough to order a drink, it will take them almost 10 minutes to get it to you, if you haven’t already forgotten what the hell you even ordered. The service in this place is damn near pitiful Ahhhh…The one good thing about this place is the food. The food is quite expensive, but it gets the job done. They have a pretty decent brunch on Sundays and for dinner I recommend the tilapia(its to die for!!!). They play pretty good music in this joint, if you like classic hip hop and classic R&B. The location is pretty solid as well. The bottom line is this fucking place needs an attitude adjustment, but if you are one of those that put on their best outfit and turn your nose up at the world then this place will be a haven for you

Its on the second floor just off the corner of 47th and King Drive. Well lit, clean, valet parking, lots of hip brotha’s in tams. And eclectic, artsy folks. Nice music, full bar, very polite service. Food was tasty, small portions though. We left hungry and went down the street to Starbucks for coffee and dessert. They were out of Zinfandel, 1 of only 4 wines on the wine list. And had only 1 dessert available for the evening. My 21 year old nephew was with me, and began scraping his plate for any remaining morsels, since they did not replenish the bread. But, 4 stars because there are very few soul food restaurants that have a wonderful atmosphere on the south side. Gotta go somewhere. Just don’t go here hungry!

The place is a great idea. Personally, there’s nothing better than the combination of great food, cool ambient lightning, and great music in the background. Blu 47 can feature all of these things. The staff is usually pleasant and eager to please. sometimes even uncomfortably so. For loungers seeking a hip, relaxed place to have appetizers, drinks, and small-group conversation, there’s the room adjacent to the main dining area. Trendy R’n’B, Neo Soul, and jazzy sounds set the tone throughout the entire restaurant. A staging area sits promisingly in the corner opposite the lounge, but in the few times I’ve been I’ve yet to see any evidence of life in that area. The drinks are pretty ok. Typically priced. The appetizers are decent but nothing to slap my momma over. In fact, in my experience, I found myself enjoying the atmosphere of the lounge over the edibles of the dining area. One particular time, there was a group of about 20 ladies evidently having the time of their lives on the other side of the room – extremely loud. But I write that off as bad timing, and didn’t really hold that against Blu 47, nor do I hold it against the partying ladies – wish I was among them! Nevertheless, every ten seconds there were bursts of loud laughter that rattled my dishes. Despite the server’s reassurance that the party was coming to a close, this night we were forced to make a very early exit. Over all the place is nice. It’s in my neighborhood so I’m glad to see an accumulation of places with substance residing there. Street parking exists. My advice, unless you’re particular about a potential 2 block walk in dim light, is that you drop off at least one person from your party to go upstairs and get things rolling while you park. If not, Valet is also an option for around $ 10. Places like this I call my first stop. Go there, get the night started with drinks, a few laughs, light eats, then move on to the party.

My experience at the resturant was just okay! The place is beautifully decorated in a contemporary motif. The music was a nice mikx of R&B, a little hip hop, and neo-soul. We loved the environment! My only complaint was the place is MUCH smaller compared to online pictures and the tables were too close. We went for an anniversary dinner and I felt a bit claustrophobic. Also I felt I had to yell to my partner, definitely not an intimate/romantic spot, but we did go at dinner on a Sat night :). I would go again to just not on my anniversary. The food was blah and overpriced. I like that they made it interesting and not the traditional«southern» fare. My partner had the chipotle short rib. She enjoyed it and the meat was very tender. The sauce was a delicious mixture, but it was also 22.95 for one rib and mashed potatoes. I choose the grilled veggie napoleon pasta. The pesto sauce was good, but not much on the plate.(FYI a limited vegetarian selections) The dish itself lacked in flavor and presentation, i was a disappointed. For the desert, the turtle cheescake. Again lack of flavor and depsite beign told it was made there, clearly was not. The martinis were PERFECT and the Blu 47 was the best. Go for drinks, appetizers, nice music and good company, not so much the food at least not at dinner time.

I went recently with a date and the lamb chops are the b-o-m-b! Seasoned with rosemary and some other spices, I was in heaven. If they weren’t $ 16 a plate I would’ve ordered more. The service is also pretty good as long as it’s not totally packed. I’d recommend going for early dinner, like between 6pm — 8pm. If you’re going with a group for cocktails, you should order your apps and drinks at once, because once the server drops off the 1st round of drinks he/she tends to disappear for a while and it’s hard to flag em down. But overall, the food is great. Oh! Also they have $ 20 brunch buffet on Sundays that has lots o food and you get a mimosa too. Niiiiiice.

The ambience was very modern, but yet, it didnt quite grab me like most new places. Defintely, there was a lot of things going on in this restaurant, such as the different color drop lights. Dining music genre, I felt, was also inappropriate for fine dining. I mean, dont get me wrong, Im a big fan of hip hop and r&b, but not when its playing on DJ speakers; not a good complement to fine dining. Also, you felt the bass from the club below the restaurant. As for the food, I had the red grilled tilapia; the fish was cooked perfectly, although the cayenne overpowered the taste. Maybe that’s just cajun style cooking. I did also try the signature dish, bayou catfish, which was filled with crabmeat, spinach, and creole spices. This was a very good dish, although I did feel everything was overpriced. I probably wont return. Although, the lounge area did look appealing. They should have a small plate menu for their lounge area.

Can I say I LOVE this restaurant. I’ve been 3 times(not counting eating 2ce at their booth at the Taste), and all three times the food was delicious! Their southwestern chicken tart appetizer is so good that I have gotten it everytime I’ve gone(I promise to not get it the next time to have even more of the appetizers). The entrees are very good as well — I’ve had the steak, the stuffed chicken gorgonzola, and one other dish(I think salmon) my first time, and they were all very very good. Very nice décor, always recommend this one to friends. I haven’t been yet for a brunch or more social scene, but the bar area looks nice and seems lilke it would host a good crowd. Friendly, nice staff(although there is a woman on their wait staff the last time I went who seemed a bit«slow ‚» but she overall was friendly and fortunately wasn’t our waitress, just bussed the tables) Definitely one of the city’s best!

Since I had their grilled chicken wings with that amazing pesto aioli dipping sauce, I had to come here to try the real thing. i found myself debating back and forth about what I should get — the fiancé suggested the whole left side of the menu(we’re big on appetizers). Portions were huge and everything is easily split by two light-medium eaters. We tried the potato and goat cheese croquettes — yum! The bayou catfish was stuffed with fresh crab meat and spinach — mmmm… good! Our server mentioned to us about their Sunday Gospel Brunch which sounded so good that we may have to check it out! Apparently, they have musical guests for entertainment and for $ 19.95(for adults), the buffet includes fried catfish, Belgian waffles, smoked turkey and much more!

I hosted a happy hour here once while visiting Chicago. I’ve actually been here a couple times since Chicago is my second favorite city. I try to get up there at least once a year. I liked the vibe and the location of Blu 47. It is in a very historic district according to information I found about the area. The space is fairly big and can also be used for private events. I understand the Liberian President ate a dinner here once while she was visiting. The food was good and the drinks were even better. They should open one up in Atlanta!

Blu 47 is a personal favorite & a regular stop for my wife & I. Located right around the corner from my crib. I end up here at least once a month. I love bringing my friends or family here, since many of them can’t believe there is any type of higher end eating in my area. I will say that the service can be slow at times, but the menu selection will always have you fighting with yourself about what to get. I have never left this place with out a to-go bag. The helpings are sometimes too big for even a Bear’s lineman. The crowd is always well dressed, as it tends to turn into a social scene later in the evening. I would like to see a bit more selection in the bar area(more varieties of beer, gin & vodka), but other than that, this is one of the best places to eat from Roosevelt road south to the burbs.
