I have only had Café Luigi’s delivered via grubhub but I am a big fan. Does the grease from the sausage and cheese sometime ruin the crust upon delivery, yes. That said, it is usually very strong abs one of my favorite thin crust(everyday) pizzas in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area. You get a ton of pizza for the price.

We stopped in because of their claims… New York Style Pizza! Although this place doesn’t really tickle my fancy for NY style pizza… it is actually my new, most favorite, thin crust pizza. I don’t live in the city. Good thing. I’d eat here too often and weigh a decent 300 pounds. I can’t wait to go back. I wanna try more of their foods. =]

Via Venuto is the perfect place to celebrate a festive occasion. Last night my husband and I attended a wedding party for a dream couple. Both the bride and the groom are in the police force. I told the bride: «You look like a fairytale princess.» Her husband is handsome. The table settings were exquisite. The tables were set with fine linen and even the chairs were covered with exquisite cloth. The ambiance of the room was supreme, so romantic. The music was lively and celebratory and the dance floor was conducive for every type of dance. I danced the foxtrot, jitterbugged and even danced the marimba and dances that are enhanced by tapping heels. The wood floor is unmarred. I also danced flemenco dances, stomping around in my gold shoes from Italy. The food was scrumptious. We had surf and turf. Angie and her sister and Tony go out of their way to make the time memorable. Via Venuto, thank you for being on Lincoln Ave. in the city.

Having just moved to Chicago from NJ, I’d say this is more like NJ pizza than NYC. Gotta love that orange grease! If only the prices weren’t so high…

Closest thing to true NYC pizza I’ve found in the city! I’m a Midwest girl married to an East Coast boy, so we frequent Café Luigi about once a month for an attempted taste of my partner’s «home». The plain(that’s East coast vernacular for«cheese») pizza is legit — good crust, loads of cheese, and nice sauce. It’s a little expensive though and you’re better off purchasing a whole pie rather than by the slice if you are particularly hungry or visiting with a medium to large size group. Service is very friendly and to-the-point. We love Café Luigi so much that sometimes we have a slice as an «appetizer» when waiting for a table at Toro, which is located right next door. What can I say? We love our pizza.

New York style? More like airport style. From the tasteless sauce to the overly-greasy cheese, this pizza blew me away with its blandness. I got a slice of pepperoni and a slice of cheese, and I might have well have gotten 2 cheese since they only put maybe 5 small pepperoni slices on the whole slice. I’ve been to NY and had $ 1 a slice pizza there in the slums that was better than this. On a street surrounded by a bourgey neighborhood and restaurants that actually try to be unique, I’m so glad that a baker from Sbarro decided to open his own shop. I wasted my lactose splurge on you guys, and I want it back. My one day of pain might be your consolation for this review, but it won’t console you for the time wasted making shitty pizza. Don’t waste your time.

My buddy who is originally from New York and I were trying to decide on a pizza place to try so I investigated and we both chose to go here for lunch on 12÷12÷15. They are known for their New York style pizza and even though I’ve never been to NY, I was anxious to try and of course so was my buddy to see if it met up with the pizza she’s familiar with. We got there and there was fresh, hot pizza slices, so many varieties to choose from. The Supreme one was calling my name — ground beef, pepperoni, onions, peppers, mushrooms and something that I never eat on a pizza… green olives(I usually take them off but it gave such good flavor to this pizza). When I took a bite of my pizza, the angels were singing-literally! So so good. You can eat in or carry out and you can also order a whole pizza. Sweet! Never have I been in a food establishment that had this candy that I grew up on! Big ups and mad respect for that! My buddy and I enjoyed ourselves fully, talking, laughing all the while, people constantly coming in and out of the place. I know why! They will be seeing me on a regular basis. New York style pizza is very different from Chicago pizza but I tell you, try theirs and I guarantee you will enjoy!

This place looks dirty and pizza looks old along with the garlic knots being tiny. Save your trouble and money

THIS is the NY style pizza I have been looking for(and mourning) since I moved to Chi last summer. Perfect big greasy foldable slices! Found this place by searching for«NY style pizza» on Unilocal and seeing some great reviews, and the food lived up to the hype. Husband and I ordered an extra large with pepperoni and some garlic knots. I’d pass on the garlic knots in the future, they were small and a little dry, but the pizza was seriously amazing. It’s definitely not chichi, so don’t expect homemade merguez sausage and organic arugula, but if you’re looking for pizza that recalls East Coast jumbo slice, this is the perfect place.

Hey guys, put a «contact us» on your website and I’d refrain from reviews on Unilocal as avenue one. That said, my ask would be when customers want to know the delivery wait, quote on the high side. Under promise over deliver. Tonight customers are being told X wait and it’s 50% longer. That’s not acceptable. I called and the excuse I got was«we’re busy.» I can’t take it out on the delivery guy because that’s not fair. So I’m paying full price, plus tip, for what I imagine is cold pizza that’s almost double the quoted wait. Just quote the real time wait. It’s not your first rodeo…

I stumbled upon this place by accident. Was waiting for a spot at another restaurant and in order to take my medication I needed to eat something. I stopped in and orders a slice of cheese. I don’t know if I was dying of hunger because of our 2 hours wait at the other place or what was going. But this pizza is deeeeeellllliiicccciiiioussss. Similar to NY style pizza. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars and not 5 is because there was an Asian or oriental looking girl at the register. She had this attitude. I wanted to punch her in the face. But the older gentleman who I’m going to assume was Italian based off his accent, was so cute and sweet. I’m glad I stayed and got my slice. I’ll be going back and just getting takeout.

It’s just ok pizza in a pinch. Was expecting really tasty from the reviews so was a bit let down. The crust was not crispy, the sauce was thin and the cheese was too thick! It was like eating melted cheese with a sprinkling of sauce. The veggie toppings didn’t look good either… Like the toppings were baked separately and added after the fact.

The thick pizza was terrible. I would not call it «deep dish», it was just thick. Basically it was just the same amount of sauce and cheese as you would expect on a skimpy thin crust pizza, but with LOTSOFEXTRA flavorless bread. If I could have shaved off the bottom 75% of the pizza it would have been OK. Instead it was significantly more expensive than the thin crust pizza and barely edible. Doubt this place can survive for much longer.

Stopped in late on a Sunday with a penchant for pizza. We went with the intent to buy a whole pie, but ended up just going with the slice selections available. An interesting slice of salad pizza with spinach, tomato, and ricotta, and a basic slice of cheese for her, and a slice of stuffed meat and a sausage slice for me(ok fine, I had a cannoli, too, so what?!). This is no-frills NY pizza. Dab off a little grease wit a napkin, fold the slice down the middle, and eat it. The crust is tasty with a nice chew, and all the ingredients seem pretty fresh(we’re not talking organics or farm to pizza, but still decent stuff). Not a destination, but will definitely be going back from time to time.

Don’t sleep on this place. Highly recommend ordering NOT the reheated by-the-slice version but rather a fresh, whole pie. It’s the tastiest thin crust I’ve found living on the north side(LP, Lakeview, Uptown) for just over four years now. My wife and have crammed in an entire 18″ family-size pizza in one night on several occasions… IT’S JUSTTHATGOOD.

The pizza is not the same but still above average than other NYC style pizza joints hence 2stars. However, they have finally convinced me that they don’t care about their customers, only making money. I brought a friend from outta town who wanted a sausage slice but didn’t see any so we asked. The girl asked in the back & then said they are not making any for the night, so he went with pepperoni. While we are eating, she puts out a fresh sausage pie. When I confronted her she replied with a grin, I didn’t know. This has happened before. They have no respect for their patrons! I am done giving my business to them.

Walked in here around 10:00PM on a Friday night. Needed a quick bite to eat before grabbing some dessert at a location next door. The pizza wasn’t bad. It is reheated and I was wondering what it tasted like fresh. They had your typical options; sausage, pepperoni, cheese, and combination. I guess I haven’t frequented many other NY style pizza joints here in the city, so I don’t have much to compare it to(aside from pizza in NY), but it wasn’t bad.

Great pizza. I’ve ordered from Luigi’s for what seems like 20 years… very good New York style slices which are the best. Having just moved back home to Chicago after 3 years of living in frenetic New York… I do know what I’m talking about regarding the quality of their pizzas. Thanks Luigi’s for serving great slices here in the heart of the Great Lakes region without all of the excessive activity that the east coast offers… SCORE!!!

After reading about Garlic knots, I decided to stop in. Few minutes later we left empty handed. The garlic knots didn’t look appealing, super tiny. The pizza looked old. Nothing great so we left and walked to Pasta Bowl.

Hear ye hear ye… best pizza and salad combo in the City. Ordered delivery of a major amount of food for visiting family and friends… all were pleased and it was a great outcome once again. Love the crust, sausage, cheese-thin is the best. I do order a stromboli or the thin stuffed once in a while as an alternative. Thank you CL’s for being here and keeping it real!

Terrible… we recently ordered a pizza from Luigi’s and had the worst delivery experience in years. Delivery took about an hour. The driver called us asking why we weren’t buzzing him in – perhaps because he was at the wrong building. Eventually he made it to our place but he didn’t have enough change. Fine, it’s a cold day and it’s only a few bucks. Well, the pizza was cold and tipped over on the side and the cheese spilled over the crust onto the side of the box. So look, I get that sometimes my pizza gets jacked up in transit – it’s part of the unwritten social contract we have with pizza delivery joints. But any time I’ve had this happen to me before, the store has been willing to deliver a new pizza. Not at Luigi’s – they refused to deliver a new pizza and then gave us a hard time when we asked for a refund. When he returned – after another hour – he brought his manager who had been hassling us when my wife called before. No apology but instead they inspected the pizza in front of me like I had tampered with it. Poor delivery, insulting treatment, and overpriced for the quality – I’d recommend you pass on Luigi’s.
