Thousands of people on Devon for Ramadan, I first thought it was a fire and not a holiday. Unfortunately, for Cary’s Muslims don’t drink alcohol, at least in public, so I checked out this bar to get a break from the madness on Devon. What a creative and fun bar in the neighborhood. Very welcoming, nice bartender and a great view of Devon. Loved the décor! Authentic and original. Fun place! Check it out!

Great spot. Music. Atmosphere. Food from the owner. They really make you feel at home at cary’s. They remember your name. There are african masks on the wall. Ok. They are dog lovers. Bring your dog in with you. That’s perfect. Interesting people with interesting stories. You never know what might happen. Recently did some remodling, and the place looks better than ever. Pool table. Clean bathrooms. 6 stars.

So nice to find a local bar in my new hood. Its not a dive bar, but still not overly fancy. Great craft beer selection on tap, serious pool table(but not so serious pool players) and the mural in the ladies room made my jaw drop. A complete encapsulation of Devon St from Kedzie to Clark. Amazing! Friendly staff and laid back vibe. Goldfish crackers to snack on made me feel right at home! Will be back soon.

Cary’s is not any old dive bar and should not be confused with all those seedy watering holes nearby along Western that shall not be named. Cary’s has genuine heart and soul, from the friendly and competent bartenders to the numerous art displays and of course, the loveable regulars. There is also an excellent and ever changing selection of craft beers at super reasonable prices, a FREE pool table(although some nights it’s unsurprisingly hard to get a crack at it) and a juke box filled with great music. One of my favorite things to do on dreadful winter evenings is trekking over to Cary’s for some of their delicious homemade hot cider with a shot of cinnamon and honey whiskey. It’s a cozy space with lovingly chosen art and décor and colors. They have a surprisingly decent cocktail list and can whip up just about anything. I described vaguely what I like one night and was served a custom cocktail that remains one of my favorites anywhere. They are dog friendly, and typically there is one or two on any given night. Also outside food friendly, we love grabbing some local flavor along Devon and bringing it to Cary’s for a drink with dinner. There are a couple of televisions but the sound is usually down so it’s not too invasive. Every Wednesday they host ‘Polish Tuesday’ where free homemade food is offered with drink specials. The owner, Pete is the best person I’ve ever met. It’s not hard to make friends with him and then he will shower you with free booze and conversation, as will many of the bartenders once you’ve made friends. I don’t go to the live shows often on the weekends, but I’m sure some good talent comes through occasionally. Cary’s is not fancy or posh, but it’s a neighborhood institution and really a lot of love goes into it. It’s pretty much the only bar in the neighborhood, but it happens to be a super swell one! I live two blocks away and am completely cool with it being the only one(besides the shit holes along Western but those aren’t worth mentioning: D)

We were playing in a co-ed soccer league around the corner and stopped in after every game this season. Excellent neighborhood bar where the locals and bar staff are welcoming, great special offers and prices on drinks too. On the last game of the season, the bar even ordered and paid for pizza as a thank you for our business! Come on down! Sports on various TVs, juke box and pool table in the back.

As a Native to Rogers Park I can’t believe it took me 3 years before I foudn this place. This is by far my favorite Local bar. Its unpretentious, and clean with incredibly nice people(both the regulars as well as the bartenders). The beers are very reasonable and cheap with a good selections,(Stella pints on tap for $ 5 everyday, Fin du Monde for $ 6 as well as the standby for Northsiders Old Style of tap for $ 3). For the whiskey man, most pours of the good stuff are very reasonably priced $ 8ish. The place is clean, the booze is cheap. That already gets 4 stars in my book for those 2 points alone. But what REALLY makes this place a true 5 star joint are the people. I just stopped in for a night cap and the bartender Stacy was awesome. Despite her protests of being the«mean one» she’s definitely one of the nicest and awesomest people i’ve ever met. She immediately introduced me to some of the regulars who were shooting rounds of 3-Ball for $ 1 buy in. These folks were so friendly and nice by the end of the night I was laughing and joking with all of them. By far some of the friendliest and coolest bar peeps I’ve ever met. In fact after a few rounds of 3-Ball Clay(one of the bartenders) bought me a shot. By far one of the awesomest neighborhood bars ever. I will definitely be back and I hope to see you all soon(Chris, James, Karl, Slavko great times hanging out with y’all). One of t he greatest aspects of this place is definitely the pool table, its free any night(except some weekdays for League play) and it seems like there’s usually some regulars around just shooting some 3-ball and having a good time. If you’re looking for a great, unpretentious, local watering hole in the Rogers Park area this is a definite must visit place. The owner Rev Pete, is a true local Rogers Parker and has been operating this bar sine 1989(although according to the website his father opened it in 1972(over 40 years!!) so you know this place is legit. Rev Pete I hope i get the pleasure of meeting you one of these days, but just wanted to let you know that your staff is awesome and you run a fantastic place. Will be DEFINITELY be back very soon.

This place is right around the corner from me, and it took me 3 years of living here to make my way over. It’s very much a neighborhood bar. They have a really top-notch beer selection, if you like that sort of thing. I’m usually«that asshole» that asks the bartender to make a mojito, and they do a pretty good mojito! I think they grill on Sundays a lot too, so you can grab a burger. My real favorite thing about Cary’s? They let me bring my dog in!

I went here for the first time recently with some friends for a post-happy hour drink on a Friday night. Cary’s was practically empty when we arrived and didn’t get much more crowded as the evening progressed, which was nice. They do have live music there, but no band was playing that night. The jukebox selection was good and there was plenty of seating. Free pool and darts were also a plus. In addition, this is a dog-friendly bar, which adds to the friendly, neighborhood atmosphere. My one major complaint has to do with the odor emanating from the men’s room. It smelled like people had urinated all over the floor in there or something because every time the door opened, the smell was overpowering and wafted across the entire back part of the bar, which is where the tables are. That may have just been a one-time thing, but it didn’t exactly make me want to sit in that area again.

Cary’s is pretty great. The owners and bartenders are awesome. The regulars are even nice. The location adds nicely to the charm. I’m from Rogers Park(made and stayed) and this is my favorite bar in the neighborhood. The night my dog died, Cary’s is where I went to nurse my sadness. There happened to be a live blues band playing that night, which was perfect. The bartender was totally sympathetic and sweet. Another night, I was there for a bartender’s birthday party. There was a DJ playing the best(awful) 90s dance music, and it was serious fun. Why Cary’s *just* misses 5 stars: I’ve heard rumors about a free Indian buffet but never seen it. The free pool table is almost always occupied by guys who take pool way too seriously. The shape of the bar makes for limited seating.

It’s so out of place, but it’s great. I love all the masks on the wall. Bartenders are all so friendly. Drinks are cheap, and they carry a decent variety of micro-brews. I’m so glad to live within walking distance of this place. It’s perfect for us.

Not a bad joint, really. Nothing terribly special about it but a good place to grab a drink. The most interesting thing is that it is completely surrounded by Indian and Pakistani restaurants & markets. In fact, I went in for the first time after having such a meal. It is dingy but not dirty and it is certainly unpretentious. There is a pool table and I was informed by the super-nice bartendress that playing pool is only for the hardcore player. That I am not! :)

My new little secret place to go to after I am done working in the area. Super solid spot, cheap beers and willing to let new people in as long as they sit away from the regulars playing pool. Find me here on Monday nights.

Just moved into the neighborhood and my brother-in-law showed us to this little gem. They have a good selection of beer at decent prices. It’s not an upscale establishment, but it has its own charm. I frequently judge the quality of a place by its bathrooms, and I was surprised that the little ladies’ room was clean and not in the least bit frightening. A great place to have a few beers after work.

Went here after dinner on the South-Asian part of Devon. read on Unilocal it was divey, and it wasn’t really what i’d describe as a dive. sure, it wasn’t posh by any stretch, but it was well-kept. People were friendly and a bit rambunctious, and the blues band was surprisingly good, especially for no cover.

Was out leafletting for an event back in January — two of my peace peeps and I stopped in here. The bar is still all the same kinds of awesome. What changed is. .. *lip quivers* *tears begin* THELITTLETURTLEDIED! RIP poor little turtle… Chuck«Broke, Bitter, Blind» Mertz of «This is Hell» on WNUR89.5 comes here Saturday afternoons after his 9AM-12(super lefty) radio show. Have been meaning to catch that, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Alright, this place is a real deal. My friend and I visited this lovely establishment a couple of weeks ago, and expected the worst. To be honest, the surrounding neighborhood is a bit sketchy. Too far east on Devon to be Little India, too far west to be truly frightening. Hopefully you get the picture. She and I were hoping for a comfy little ‘dive’ bar, and that’s totally what we got! They have a great jukebox, good selection of beers, and the barkeeps are very attentive and fun to talk to. Make sure to go on a Saturday night, because that is ‘Craoke’ night. You may get to see the owner, Pete, give Bob Dylan a run for his money.

This place was a dive 20 years ago and I can only imagine what it is like now. Sure, you can drink cheap here. This place is one of the few in the neighborhood that’s still around, so they must be doing something right. Not sure what that is, but they have survived for a long time in an area that has had its ups and downs.

went here last night, a friend invited me to come listen to a friends band. First impression: I live about 6 blocks from here and have never heard of it. I’m thinking that place has got be right in the middle of Little India. Well it is! Unbelievable, all these Indian, Pakistani and ethic shops and then what do ya know? A joint with an Old Style on tap, sign. I came in, met up with my friend, looked around and thought… cool. I got almost immediate attention from the bartender, so I ordered for myself and two others. She came back with the drinks and a smile and says, let’s see… that will be $ 10.50. I’m thinkin, no she didn’t, $ 10.50? That’s too cheap. At these prices I’ll be wasted in about two hours! If you happen to be in Little India for food stop by. There was an awful, country rock band there. They advertise karaōke, don’t remember what night, but with cheap drinks like that, I could see getting smashed enough to make an ass of myself in public. There’s a nice pool table in back Lot’s of wannabe pool hustlers there too. Very diverse crowd.. check it out. I would have given it more stars if not for the shitty country band. At least, I think they play for free. This should be filed under dive bars. Oh yeah, and there’s warm water and paper towels in the restrooms. Nice little touch.

An okay bar to go to. I found the crowd to be kinda weird here… the food is okay, nothing really special. Not a place you’re going to want to go back to again and again.
