Great place. Extremely good value. Food and spirits excellent. Ask for explanations re presentations and items on menu. Hidden gem in that area.

My partner and I had a fine meal here, despite the restaurant being darn near overwhelmed by a party of 20+ that showed up on only 15 minutes’ notice.* My partner ordered veggie spring rolls and salmon in a clay pot. The spring rolls were some of the biggest ice ever seen, filled with rice noodles and tasty seasonings, served with sweet-hot sauce. My partner was quite pleased. Be aware that the salmon takes about 25 minutes to prepare, but it’s well worth the wait. The pot came to the table full of big chunks of skin-on salmon in a flavorful sauce, topped with garnishes. Our fish was perfectly cooked, moist, and tasty. The mind of rice on the side was just right for sopping up the remaining sauce in the pot. The owner mentioned that they will also make this dish with mackerel on request — I will definitely ask for this next time! I had mini pancakes with shrimp and a bowl of seafood phở. The mini pancakes are more like tiny omelettes, perfect little baked eggy rounds topped with shrimp. They were served in a cast iron baking dish, with a pile of basil leaves and romaine lettuce with a sweet sauce on the side. There were seven, but I would have eaten many more. The seafood phở was exactly what a bowl of soup should be — hot, satisfying, the cure for whatever ails you. The clear broth tasted of fish, and the soup was garnished with big shrimp, mussels, and squid strips. The obligatory pile of rice noodles completed the dish. We’ll definitely eat here again! *Folks, please don’t do this. Most restaurants will do their best to accommodate you, but it’s hell on the kitchen and the servers. Your group will get better service and everyone will be happier if you provide a lot more warning.

It’s definitely great! We tried the mini shrimp pancake and spring rolls as appetizer and they are AMAZING. The phở soup is very delicious too, especially after adding some seafood sauce and spice sauce.

This place was amazing. Street parking right out front. Fare prices for the authenticity. Food and service was great! I’ll come back here again.

I stumbled across this place driving down this stretch of Western Avenue which is mostly auto repair shops. The sign in the window read«Best Phở,» and I am a sucker for advertisements. What I walked into, I couldn’t possibly have imagined, and I even stepped back for a second. The front door opens into a full bar where a number of older Croatian men(I believe… I’m not trying to start a civil war, I don’t really know) were seated, deep into their drinks and intense conversation. I almost sat at the bar, but thought the wiser of it and chose a high-top table toward the dining room in the back. The place is overall very classy and the bar is nice touch. The waitress asked if I needed something from the bar, which, of course, I did. the menu had all of the Vietnamese favorites you’d fine to the east on Argyle Street, but there was also a smattering of Yugoslavian dishes, likely for the appeasement of the older clientele. I stuck with the Phở, and a enormous pair of spring rolls. I’m not sure it was the«best phở,» but it was definitely up there. My waitress told me I should come back at night — it’s more fun. I intend to.

Did I just walk into a Vietnamese club? I’m not sure what I was feeling when I saw a bar, giant Christmas tree, and stage area inside the restaurant. This is unlike any other Viet restaurant I’ve ever been to, and for that, I thank you Sunset Phở Caffe. This restaurant really was cute. It has the makings of a higher end Asian restaurant with reasonable prices. My friend and I stumbled upon here when we decided to opt out of a 2.5 hour wait at a close-by crabby restaurant(lol). Upon being seated and being presented with a wine menu, we knew this was going to be a unique experience. The reviews here about the service are on point. The owners are extremely friendly, with one gentlemen even offering us complimentary shots from his home country in Eastern Europe. He was fab! We chatted with the owners after dinner and got a glimpse of what their business was like. Overall, great family-run place with a bar. However, when it came down to the food, I can say that it was good– but not great. Argyle definitely has better selections when it comes to the more traditional Vietnamese fare. Food was definitely a 3 — 3.5 for me: The Ban Xeo(Vietnamese pancake) was not the greatest here. The tumeric pancake was soggy and we only received three pieces of lettuce to wrap the food with. Usually we get a lot more when we order at other Vietnamese restaurants. The phở itself was nothing to write home about either. Perfectly fine for a cold evening, but nothing that screams«come back for more.» SPC as a whole was a great experience and I really enjoyed the ambience and service. The food options don’t pack as big of a punch when compared to its competitors across town. I’m sure with time the restaurant will get better, and I certainly hope it continues to do well and prosper.

Like no Vietnamese restaurant I ever visited — in a very good way. The venue’s ancestry as a neighborhood bar is clear from the moment you walk in: full bar with 10 bar stools, cozy wood floors where high-top and regular tables are arrayed, bright but not harsh lighting, subdued colors on the walls. Four large-screen TV monitors and speakers round out the sports bar vibe. And chicken wings on the appetizer menu, albeit with optional fish sauce or BBQ sauce. The TV monitors were tuned into sports, but the sound was off, replaced by a selection of satellite-provided jazz music. The menu and chef definitely are Vietnamese. We started with a superb Vietnamese crêpe with shrimp and pork; and six grilled shrimp on a skewer(beware: shell-on for eating the whole crunchy thing); excellent stir fried rice with chicken, and white rice noodles with beef. We’re big fans of phở for a whole meal, but we reserved sampling one of the many variations of phở so we could taste more items on the menu. We are eager to return to see if the phở lives up to the delicious dishes we enjoyed on our first visit. Limited but pleasing wine selection($ 4 a glass!), usual selection of soft drinks; not-to-usual selection of smoothies. Street parking is a challenge.

We tried this restaurant from all the reviews we saw on Unilocal. But we were extremely disappointed. We had the bun bo hue, bo luc lac, and goi cuon tom thit. The bbh tasted like phở with a bit of spice in it. The bo luc lac had like 5 pieces of steak. It was $ 14! And the goi cuon was nothing special. Similar to other places. Trust me, as a person who grew up in a Viet household, this is not authentic Vietnamese food. Go somewhere else.

We ordered from Grubhub on a whim and this is some of the best Vietnamese we’ve ever had. We got the Spicy Lemongrass Noodle soup, extra spicy, and it did not disappoint. It was extremely flavorful but not overpowering, and certainly cleared our sinuses. The BBQ Pork sandwich is the best bahn mi type sandwich I’ve ever tasted. The Vietnamese Spring Rolls were good, but nothing too out of the ordinary. After reading some reviews, I think we’ll be trying the CEVAPCICI Spring Rolls next time. Additionally, after reading reviews of the dining location itself, our next dining experience with Sunset Phở Caffe will be in their restaurant!

Won’t claim to be a Phở expert, had it a few times and make my own quick version at home, but the raw beef(my wife had chicken) Phở was very very good. Both of us were happy with the flavors, amount and freshness of all the ingredients. This is obviously the real stuff. However, this is not a place for a date night, just well priced authentic meal. You walk through an old style bar that has nothing to do with what is toward the back(Vietnamese restaurant) and lots of clutter. My wife’s first impression was that we were in the wrong place, however, I had read Unilocal reviews and was prepared for the disconnect. We will be going back.

Read reviews on this place. It was very good had the beef stew with rice noodles. Broth was tasty had a jazz band which was nice and different. Bar up front like a sports bar. TV set to cubs playoffs game vs mets. Owner Zell came by and check on our meal. Offered us plum brandy shot from his country I believe Bosnia. Must recommend not your typical Vietnamese restaurant

Decided to give a different restaurant a try tonight and we decided on Sunset. The atmosphere here was really unique and different then most Vietnamese shop. We had the spring rolls, the banh khot, bun bo, and rice noodle with eggrolls, pork, and shrimp. The food took really long to come out. The springroll was OK nothing to go crazy over. I love banh khot and finally found a place that makes them. I was extremely disappointed by it. It was under cook and not crunchy at all. My first attempt to make banh khot at home was better. The bun bo is very mild. If you had bun bo at café hoang, this one is extremely different and have a very mild taste so it. There was also no ham hock. The dry noodles I had was just OK also. Nothing spectacular. It did take forever for the food to come out and long for the check also.

I was always scared to try this place since I knew it had changed many times before. It doesn’t look like a restaurant from the outside. The inside actually surprised me, it’s really nice. So let’s get to the food. The fried calamari was good, I thought the breading was a little to thick on a few pieces. We also had the Vietnamese pancake which was good, maybe another piece of lettuce since it was a big piece. The quail was excellent! I would go back just for the quail. The beef stew noodle was good along with the phở. It’s a good place to get a bowl and not have to drive to far. The rice with pork chop was tasty. We also ordered the crispy noodles with seafood which turned out to be really good as well. The only dish that was just ok was the stir fry chicken with vegetables. That dish was the only ordinary dish we ordered, so I guess we got what we ordered lol. Overall this place is above average and food is flavorful. The owner and his wife came over to talk to us as well, which was nice. They talked to us about future plans for the menu and it made me hungry again. They even had a complimentary shots of a plum liquor with us! Great to see the owners get to know their patrons! We will see you next time for that pear liquor you offered! Thanks for a great dinner!

Really good chicken phở and veggie spring rolls. Price was pretty good. Phở was so tasty. Cool spot outside seating as well. Plenty of street parking on western. Definitely will be back for other types of phở.

First off I want to say how unique this restaurant is. It has a very different vibe compare to other typical Vietnamese restaurants. When you first walk in, there is a bar area and it is very spacious. Walking in, there are more seating options from high top chairs to just a regular low chair seatings. Typical to every Vietnamese restaurant, the cuisine options are basically the same. I mean all of Vietnamese restaurants all compromise of the same things. The only thing that made this restaurant stand out the most is adding cevapcici(Croatian) onto the menu. We gave it a shot as an appetizer: cevapcici spring rolls, based on the waitress recommendation and it was very interesting taste and not in a bad way. Bun Thit Nhuong — Pretty typical like how every Vietnamese cuisines make them so no complaints there. This joint is just very different and unique in their style that they represent.

Now I have two favorite phở joint ‘LC phở’ and ‘Sunset phở caffe’! So initially my thought about this place is the music was kind of off and it was pretty dark but when the crawfish came out second later I’m inhaling the yummy delicious crustaceans. OHMYGOODNESS the music started sounding better and nothing seemed to bother me anymore. TRYTHECRAWFISH! If you’re on a date and reluctant to get messy. Ditch the date and get down with the crawfish! Service was great as well. Although I would have to say LC phở does have better broth but I wouldn’t rotating between the two.

We loved this place so much, we came here two nights in a row. The first night was for a get together for a group of friends that I’m going to Japan with in August. We walked in to some live music being played. Now this restaurant is not that big, but a small stage was set up for a band to play anyway. We sat down and watched some of the CoAmerica soccer tournament. This place has some nice flat screen TVs positioned very well throughout the place. We were able to speak to the owner named Zel who provided us with some smooth free shots. After we took those we began to order. We shared an appetizer of Croatian sausage spring rolls, which were awesome. We also had an app of basically sausage links, with bread and onion, which was also delicious. The main course was to die for. I had the rare steak and flank steak phở. The broth was just the right consistency of spicy and mild. I’ve never had a broth that was so good that I literally finished all of it. The beef was tender and not dry while the noodle to broth ratio was on point. This is a place that should be on Argyle, but located on Western. It’s a real gem. Oh an BTW, we came back the next night and had the same thing and it was still delicious.

My wife, son and I were craving Phở. I bookmarked this place a couple of months ago and finally decided to come. Best decision. I ordered the Rare & Flank Beef Noodle Phở and my wife ordered the Veggies Noodle Phở. As an appetizer we ordered the Vegetarian Fresh Spring Rolls. The food was great and the owners were fantastic. Most Phos that I have had have been really salty. This Phở was not salty at all. It had a lot of layers of flavor and was delicious down to the last bite. If you have driven past this place, park the car and go inside and try this place out. You will be happy you did! The only complaint I have is that I did not take a picture of our food, so in the meantime, take my word for it. Enjoy!

DELIVERYORDERREVIEW. Called to ask if they would deliver to a place approximately 4 miles away. They say yes. Wait, we don’t have a menu and we’re interested in phở. Man over the phone proceeds to explain the variety of options they have. AMAZING! You can’t ask for better service than that. All on a Saturday night. To top it off, delivery guy(who I’m sure is the man who took the order) informed me off jazz on Wednesday night. So informative. As for the food it self, it’s all about the details. I ended up with the beef stew(instead of phở, go figure). I found it to be quite delicious. It was like beef stew and phở had a baby. The base was phở like, but stew tasting(does that make sense?). There were beef and carrots. And it came with noodles. So I think that’s like a beef stew phở baby. Quite honestly, I was also impressed with the packing of the delivery items. Individual ziplocks with condiments, all utensils were there. I mean if it’s forgotten, it’s really no big deal cause it happens. And I was home, so I’ve got back up. But it’s just always nice and thoughtful. The only thing was there was no sriracha. I don’t know if that’s standard or just the Asian in me, but where was it? It’s ok, I got some at home. I would gladly try this place again, probably in person and get phở. You gotta get it while it’s hot.

Unbelievably good !!! This place has just opened few months ago and it is amazing, healthy, and affordable. The taste was out of this world I could not believe it. You can feel how fresh and healthy the ingredients are. You should check it out and you will be addicted like us. It is kids friendly and the staff are really nice.
