This is a great gallery to find primitive African tribal art such as masks, sculptures and statues in Chicago. We were at Merchandise Mart on a Saturday afternoon, and parked our car near Cassiopeia. The owner Michael greeted us at the door, and gave us a tour of his gallery. I’ve always liked ancient egyptian art, and have recently started collecting African art work. Michael was very friendly, and explained the culture of each piece, and how it fits into African history. Unlike other stores I’ve been to, all of the African Artwork at this place was handmade and genuine. Michael knew the history of each mask, and statue, as well as the jewelry and trade beads. Parking can be a little difficult, unless you pay at a lot. I suggest taking the bus or train if you are going to be in the River North area. Of course, if you are looking to decorate a room with African Art, and are on a budget, places like Pier 1 or Crate and Barrel might be a better choice.
