I signed up for ice climbing at Starved Rock, but the conditions were too warm in January, so I was offered a full refund, or an alternative outing at Governor Dodge. I opted for Governor Dodge, and had a great time. Jason was professional, and easy to work with as a guide. Good experience and would recommend.

I recently used Chicago Rock & Ice Guides services. We were at Devil’s Lake, WI. Jason seems to know his way around the area. I’m a climber myself but only familiar with sport routes. He set up top rope anchor for us. The way he sets up feels secure to me. I also took a traditional (trad) lesson from him. He took time to explain each piece of gear, to place gear correctly, and he taught me couple new knots that are useful in climbing. He is very cautious about safety. After my leading my first trad route, he gave me feedback on each piece of gear that I placed, my anchor that I built, and my rope management. He was very honest about it and it’s important for me to learn from my mistakes so I can do better next time.
You don’t have to be an experience climber to use his service. You will learn a lot from him. He has a good sense of humor and will have fun with him.
