Real dive bar: cash only; I ordered a cocktail, and the bartender responded with«you don’t want me making that…,» as patrons looked at me and stealthily shook their heads to advise me not to. PBR and whiskey it is!

Small dive bar with affordable drafts and a clean yet nostalgic vibe. Interior straight out of the 70s/80s one of a style of Chicago neighborhood bar that seems to be ever more elusive these days

Awesome pub! Great ambience, pool table, excellent prices, nice, nice bartender. They do not serve food, but allow delivery from a wide variety of options. 100% recommended :)

This place is great! Pure dive bar — great neighborhood bar! Pool and good selection of beers. Cash only but it is worth it for the Daley clock. Odd mix of patrons but that is Rogers Park. Awesome bartenders and they pick the music!

Let me tell you something about this place. It’s a Pub and it’s as real as it gets when you want that Pub feeling. Good feeling all around. I once brought a date here one night and I got to listen to some classic records… yes records. Ol’ Boy behind the bar was playing some good stuff too. Nothing like that Vinyl sound. You got a Pool Table there and some Books, Boardgames, awesome tables by the window when available. I can get sentimental about this place… maybe if you decide to go, you might see what I’m talking about. Go! It’s good to be thirsty here ;)

best bar in Chicago? I mean, probably. one of the bartenders teaches at Northwestern and from time to time does lectures on the history of Saloon culture in Chicago. PRETTYCOOL

My husband and I just moved to the area and wanted to try this place out because of the good reviews and it’s pretty close to our apartment. We walked in and there was a large group of people sitting at a table. We sat down and waited for the bartender. No hello, no anything. We were completely ignored so we left. Probably won’t be coming back.

I have really only been here a few times but for the most it’s a average dive bar. There is nothing species about there drinks or service. Also bars that do not serve any type of food to me should not exist in today’s world of roster ovens. I feel they could do a lot more with what they have. Some effort and better beer selection would be nice.

Nice casual clean neighborhood bar. Had fun earlier in the night with the lady bartender, did not cure for the male bartender, he stiffed me a 10 dollars on change, but he gave it back. I got the impression he did it on purpose thinking I was too drunk to notice.

I’m new to Chicago and have only been to Cunneen’s once, but I’m in love already. The atmosphere is laid back and homey, and I loved the diverse clientele. The general vibe seemed friendly, but low key, divey, but not dirty. The bar was crowded when I was there, but it never got too loud to hold a conversation with friends. The seats in the window up front also look like a great place to drink and read alone. This place is a bit far north from my neighborhood, but I anticipate making the trip regularly to relax in comfort and enjoy cheap drinks with friends or on my own. TIP: This place is cash only and BYOF.(The taqueria on the corner of Devon and Clark is delicious and cheap.)

Not really up my alley. The owner was nice however as she played some vinyl tunes while i watched a bit of the Blackhawks game. Sounds like a lot of people enjoy it here at night… but don’t go during the day to watch a game.

The Reader has the biggest hard-on for this place. I think it’s a lot of hullabaloo just for a garish Daley clock and some wood paneling that looks like your uncle’s basement(Sidekicks does it better.) They had decent pitcher prices and I got a Newcastle pitcher for about $ 12, but was hungry for a bigger selection. Maybe the bartender was having a shitty night – it was a Tuesday. But, she spent the whole night on the other end of the bar and did an actual eye roll and hair flip whenever we tried to order anything. We tipped decently regardless, but what? She was a couple decades older than us but it oddly transported us back to high school. Maybe this bar is revered by people who don’t want to be judged for wearing laundry day clothes. I say, just own your old navy painters pants and go somewhere else!

Cunneen’s is the best kind of neighborhood bar, in my opinion. Colleen has been working most nights I’ve been there, and she’s wonderful. I wouldn’t necessarily call this place a dive, but it definitely feels untouched by modern entertainment standards, and it’s a place I feel at ease and at home. but not at home, which is exactly what I want in my bar.

Amazing atmosphere. Kind and competent bartenders. Wonderful, up-to-date liquor selection as well as a decent, rotating beer selection. VINYL collection behind the bar. What?! A neighborhood landmark.

This place is an acquired taste, but, once acquired, really grows on you. I’ll give you an example: Over a year ago, before I was more of a regular, I came in, sat down at the bar for over 10 minutes, and the bartender never looked up from what he was writing. I suppose I could have said something, but, it was easier to head over to another favorite a couple of blocks away. But, because of the great atmosphere, I gave it another chance, and have actually become somewhat friendly with that same bartender. So, if you like fairly quiet bars built for conversation with friends(and drinking), you’re not going to find much better atmosphere in the neighborhood.

Oh god help me, I’ve moved into an apartment that is a block away from an AWESOME dive bar. Cunneen’s is a local treasure. Dimly lit, rarely so packed that you can’t get a seat at the bar, free WiFi, a pool table, a great jukebox and bartenders who always remember your name and drink of choice. Not to mention, drinks are on the cheap side of reasonably priced. Plus they carry Rolling Rock. Score! I lurve Cunneen’s and suspect it will soon become much like my own livingroom. =)
