A while back I went to the Lady Bug reunion which was advertised in Windy City Times. I used to go there every now and then so I thought it would be a fun night. The guy working the door was such a jerk and didn’t want to let me in. He said it was a private party and I was not invited. Finally, he called the owner and I was allowed to enter. Then later in the evening he recognized my gay male friend from the web site Grinders and messaged him hello and then sent him a photo of his penis and his ass. It looked like a small, little mushroom. YUCK !!! Other than that it was an OK time.

We passed a chilly winter night at the fabulous Davenport’s. The place was packed, but Dan kept the drinks flowing, all the while smiling and occasionally singing. Best damn waitress in Wicker Park! We wanted for nothing.

I saw Joan Curto perform cabaret in the back room for the first time last weekend. It was an amazing experience, her show was fabulous. If you purchase tickets to a show in the back room, there is a two drink minimum. Tickets were $ 24 and were worth every penny. After the show you can head back to the front bar for more drinks and entertainment. I love this place!

For my first experience at Davenports, I was a little too drunk to remember the details, but I know I had fun. This is why my boyfriend and I decided to return after dinner next door at Oiistar last night. There were about 20 people there listening to a chick on the piano, going pretty hard and sounding amazing for a bunch of the songs. We compared her to Sara Bareilles… And stayed and listened to her for at least an hour. Had a great time drinking and people watching. The cocktails are nice and strong at 9 or 10 bucks a pop. I love this place and will return for sure.

My favorite place to hang out in Chicago. Such a hidden gem. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and inviting. Not a bad seat in the house. No cover charge in the front of the house which is amazing considering the talent that performs there. Johnny Rogers on Saturday or Sunday from 7−10…if you haven’t seen him, please do so now!!! The servers/bartenders know how to make a cocktail. Considering the area you can usually find street parking.

Very cool piano bar. we were lucky enough to see a great show — Levy Kries — just a few days before Christmas. Mostly Christmas songs, and a few originals. It was all good. Davenport’s is set up with a bar and a piano in the front and another room in the back with a piano, tables and chairs. The Levy Kries show was in the back. In addition to the cover, there is a two-drink minimum and you order both drinks before the show starts. I’d say there were about 50 people total in on this evening, so it was quite intimate. I hope to visit again soon.

I meant to write this review in June before I left Chicago for good. Oh well, here it goes. I needed to unwind, so a friend and I went karaōke hopping. Yes, it’s true, we actually hit 3 different spots and sang the night away. The first two places left much to be desired and there was no way that this night was going to end on a low note. Besides, I wasn’t ready to turn in and always wanted to check out Davenport’s karaōke night(held only on Friday). After having our IDs checked, the doorman pointed us to a door just past the cabaret area. Upon entering, we were greeted to a full house and a spectacular performer wrapping up her set. What was she singing? «All That Jazz» and a majority of the audience was providing backup vocals. We ended up finding seats very close to the stage. After taking in a few more performances, the MC notified the audience that signups would cease shortly. I quickly made my way over to the booth to sign us up for a duet. My friend, notified me that she needed liquid courage because everyone who graced the stage had talent. As I mentioned, it was a full house, so we weren’t called up until nearly closing. However, it didn’t faze us, as we like the rest of the audience provided backup vocals for a majority of the performers before us. Davenport’s definitely closed the night on a high note!

Finally made it to a cabaret at Davenports. This place is lovely. Yes, it’s slanted towards the musically gifted and the musical theatre nerds, and yes you have to purchase two drinks in addition to a cover, but it’s a fun place to support your musically inclined friends. The drinks are good, the pianists are good, the sound system is good… it’s all good. And any place with a «Soprano Martini» is a winner in my book.

If you google«chicago cabaret bars» Davenports is at the top of the list. Cabaret, Chicago, a bar… I assumed the best as I headed to Davenports last weekend. We saw an Eli Someone who was an america’s got talent runner-up. He was a very talented piano player who played a couple fun originals and well, lets just say if Elton John and Billy Joel ever had a love child, it’s Eli. I think his entire family, high school friends, a few neighbors, and his fiancé were there. It was sweet. And yes, I’ve never had two drinks shoved in front of me so fast in my life. The service was good and the ladies room was tidy. The room was great. An intimate small lovely sound stage. I was hoping to see Sally Bowles, but Eli and his violin playing pal were pretty good.

What fun! Last night at Davenport’s on Milwaukee I checked out Jamie Brady singing Caberet. The name of her show was«Fashionably Late» and she is a true entertainer! Jamie really mixed it up with a variety of songs both familiar and not. Sh is gorgeous, has a sultry sexy voice and for her first solo performance, a hit! You can see her next week on May 17. Don’t miss it!

I love this place! Okay, the drinks are pricey… but really good/strong. And on some nights they have amazing specials(beer + shot for only $ 5 = sign me up!) Of course, you come here for more than just the drinks. Don’t expect your typical Wicker Park drunk crowd… this is a classier establishment. The bartenders and waitresses will take really good care of you and the shows in the front room are usually pretty good… especially the really raunchy one on Thursdays. I have seen it twice and can’t wait to go back for a third! I would totally buy their cd to learn the words to the songs if they had one… but I guess seeing them live is better anyways. I’ve been to some of the shows in the back room and they are good too, but I really love karaōke on Friday nights. Instead of being crammed in the corner of some dive bar, you get to go on stage and pretend to be a star! Of course, there is a reason I’m not a star… mostly complete lack of talent, but everyone always claps for you! Overall, one of the best bars in the city.

Wow… Davenports + Smith& Grimm on Thursday= FUUUNNNN!!! A couple of friends and I heard of this hilarious, raunchy girls that sings comedy songs on Thursday. We all said why not try it out? We had so much fun… I laughed the entire night. Between the cute piano bar style of the venue and the two performers it was a great night. Drinks were good and the bartender was fun. Check it out. and bring tips… as Smith& Grimm deserve some extra love!

My friend Becca had her own show(how cool is that?) a few weeks ago here at Davenport’s. I had never, ever been, but I loved it! It was really cool to see a performer in such an intimate environment. The service was great, because you ordered everything before the show started so the waitress didn’t have to speak or interrupt the show. She just quietly showed up, gave you a new drink and was off! There was a really friendly /fun piano player in the front of the bar, and then private shows in the«main room». The experience was so great I would be willing to go again to see a cabaret show!

I went to my friend’s concert at Davenport’s Piano Bar in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The venue is known for intimate cabaret shows and Tommy really knew how to deliver. He was accompanied by Dan Stetzel and often welcomed his friend, guest performer Chessie, to the stage. Tom performed about an hour of music consisting of showtunes, Kristin Chenoweth pieces, and his perfect comedic timing! The whole night was arranged to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, an organization that is, unfortunately, too close to Tom and his family. They arranged to collect $ 700 in raffle ticket sales for the AFSP, the winner of the raffle ultimately choosing to donate his own prize winnings. The evening reminded me of a night in London not so long ago that I spent with friends at Cellar Door.

Colette Hawley and George Howe on Thursday all of this month! So just wanted to go out and grab some drinks since the weather turned nice and I wanted to go out. After walking down Division stopping at the different bars, we hit Milwaukee and started walking north. Sister needed to go use the washroom so ended up stopping at Davenport’s… Actually went to see the Windy City Revue which had a roaring 20’s show. Really entertaining although, not my genre in music at all. Still not sure how we ended up seeing that show. It was a two drink minimum and the drinks are a bit pricey here. Oh well. Their root beer float is good! After the show up front was Colette Hawley and George Howe. Never seen the Nitz and Howe experience, but now I will definitely come back to see it as Colette and George were really entertaining even though some of it was at mine and other audience members’ expense! Definitely a fun night last night! Wish I could give the 5 stars mark, but sadly it is a bit expensive for drinks here.

My roomie’s friend was singing at the open mic night so we took the opportunity to check it out, whilst continuing the terrible idea that Monday night is a good night for drinking. Shouldn’t I be in my jammies? At least I don’t wear them to bars. Jeez. The guy hosting the open mic night was funny, some of the singers were good, some made me crack up, and one who looked like William Hung’s slightly more chromosomally endowed brother disappointed me by not being William Hung. C’est la vie. Well drinks were $ 3.50 which is a recipe for disaster for me, but the gin wasn’t awful so I was happy. What made me sad is that the bartender looked like Laura Louise from Rosemary’s Baby. Scary. She probably put tannis root in my drinks. I am probably carrying Satan’s child right now. How’s that for a rough night out? I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here, especially because I’d like to avoid the tannis root, but I had a good time.

Still love this place. Go on Thursday nights if you haven’t been. There is a live band(great for singing along with) and the Miller Lites are only $ 2.50! You’ll walk away with a smile on your face, for sure!
