You can find some gems here and they rate their records, so you can find some that are near Mint. I found the selection to be solid and high turnover, so lots of new stuff comes in!

Reckless is an institution in wicker park. The neighborhood has changed and even Reckless moved down the street but it’s one of the staples. They have a great selection of new and used records, CD’s, even tapes(who is listening to tapes?). The staff is helpful and it’s always a good mix of patrons. Truthfully I don’t even listen to records that often, I just like going in!

I’ve always loved reckless for record shopping. Their used vinyl is always priced completely fair… many times under the normal prices you see regularly for«rare» or sought after used LP’s. Also, the selection seems to change on a daily basis, keeping it fresh and interesting. Thanks Reckless.

It’s hard to review Reckless — the go-to record store in Chicago. I used to think they were the end all be all of record stores but after really picking up buying again, my opinion has changed. Pros: generally have great prices and inventory. Staff can be friendly, wide selection. Cons: When I buy a new record I want it in the original shrink. I HATE that they rip it off all releases(except those with multiple copies) and drop it in a bag. So, if you are looking for a copy of something in a small run, forget purchasing it ‘new’ as it will already be open. Removing the record from the sleeve and placing it in the bins. Again, if it’s a small run and the only copy they have happens to sit in the bins for a few weeks/months, prepare to see a lot of dings and dents — this is still considered new. One particular record I would love to buy has been collecting dents for 6 months. Based off the packaging alone it should be discounted 50%. If you are exclusively buying bigger releases with multiple copies, RR is great. If you are searching for small runs, not necessarily rare, then be prepared to buy an open and damaged product at full price.
