On January 30, 2016 I visited Del Toro with a party of 6 at 5:05 pm to celebrate my birthday. Upon entering my name was taken for a table for 6. According to Del Toro they do not accept reservations nor do they seat any incomplete parties of guest. It is indicated that ALL guests must be present to be seated at a table. My party and I were not seated regardless of us all being present. Instead a party of 4(out of 15) being incomplete were seated. Contrary to following policies indiscriminately I noted a very pronounced distinction in treatment to myself and my party as consuming customers. My party and I were told the wait was 1.5 hours when a party of 4 present out of 15, were seated. This while their party was incomplete and delayed over ½ hour in completely arriving. Meanwhile a table to sit 6 – 8 people was open and idle and still management/host did not seat myself nor my party. This is not the first occasion this uncomfortable and tasteless situation happens to me and my party at this establishment. I was told by management this occurred because the«incomplete party» were as I was first told«friends of the owner». Subsequently, I was told they were«investors». In proper business all customers are to be treated and served equally regardless. Additionally, shall it be the case the incomplete party of 15, were«friends“‘or supposed«prestigious investors» of the business– they should not be the cause of other customers being treated as «second class customers». If such was the case it would’ve been expected they be served in a private dining area if such obvious and very real distinction were to be made amongst customers such as myself and accompanying party. To clarify any consuming customer is an «investor» and confidently my U.S. currency is as green as anyone else’s attending Del Toro. I am an great supporter and promoter of small Latino neighborhood businesses but this experience(for the 2nd time) has left a very bitter taste. However, I am glad to have confirmed how policies are applied depending on who you are at this establishment and I will not continue as part of Del Toro’s clientele.

Del Toro is a great place. Great tequila selection and employees. The wait on the weekends is pretty long due to the space, but worth the wait. So if you don’t like waiting an hour don’t bother.

Where do I start. Well I am a cool guy. But this place is a hidden gem. Outstanding food and the drinks r amazing. The Pepino is a must. And again I am a cool guy. Oh two issues. One it’s a small place so u need to get there early or u will wait outside. Two no tv on the weekends. So no sports on Friday and Saturday. They are closed Sunday and Mondays. Again I am a cool guy.

went with some coworkers after a work dinner. did not eat, but the two coworkers who had been here before told us the food is excellent. the pepino was spicy and refreshing, and maybe my favorite drink of the evening. the bartenders were great. this place gets packed, so come early and/or don’t be afraid to throw some elbows to get a spot at the bar.

Guacamole-amazing. Ceviche-amazing. Margaritas & micheladas– phenomenal!!! Our first time trying this place and our expectations were exceeded. Our waitress was really nice, the food was all very fresh and didn’t take very long. There was no wait on a Saturday night despite how crowded this place was! I ordered the pepino margarita first and was happy, then I ordered the tamarindo margarita and it was so good that my boyfriend went with one too after his michelada lol we will be coming back to test the rest of the menu! Only downside is the street parking but this place is definitely worth it!

The food and drinks are great but the service is… lacking. This is the only time I’ve seen my super nice friend argue with a hostess and then on another visit I think my Spanish was being tested by my waiter. The sopes and guac are great… so are all of the drinks… but what my go-to taco place gets right that this place doesn’t…just being genuinely nice to their customers.

Del Toro has been a long time favorite. Easy going crowd, above average food, friendly service & diverse cocktail selection. It’s a small space that gets crowded quickly and early particularly on weekends.

I don’t head to Pilsen often but when I do I’m never disappointed! I went to Del Toro for drinks and dinner after work on a Thursday. Be prepared for a wait! They were at capacity when I got there and I had to wait in the doorway until someone left. The doorway was cold but hostess was friendly and personable so that helped. The wait for a table was about an hour at 7pm. My friend and I ended up grabbing a seat at the bar, win! I would definitely come back here for the drinks. The drinks were amazing, colorful, exotic and unique. I loved the wide range of flavors to choose from. I got the pepino margarita to start and then ended with the sweeter passion fruit margarita. Had a nice buzz toward the end of those highly recommend the pepino! Also suggest per Time Out Chicago! The food was okay, nothing outstanding. Prices are great though, very reasonable.

Little I know that this place is a very popular spot after 10 pm on a Friday night with 2 hours to get a table! Service is outstanding though! The food was great authentic: guacamole so fresh different a little on the texturized side, ceviche with shrimps and white fish very flavored. The tacos per piece are nice. We like the beef one better than the shredded one ! The marguerites are very flavored very well balanced between alcohol and made our night! Very noisy electronic music but nice beat! Bathrooms are very spacious and clean. A great bar with authentic food to keep in mind while you are in the neighborhood! Live and enjoy!

Del Toro is a little bit off the beaten path. There isn’t much in the area, but we had reservations at Nightwood and were glad to stumble upon Del Toro when we arrived early. It’s a small bar, but with enough tables to catch up with a group or just relax. Everyone in here looked like they had just come from work in desperate need of post-work drinks. One guy even busted out the laptop — I guess it never ends for some people. Many of the drinks looked good. There are many Latin-inspired cocktails, martinis, and sangrias, but I decided on the Tuesday special and had a $ 6 mojito. It was pretty good. Hungry, and a little buzzed from earlier day-drinking, we ordered the Queso Fundido appetizer. We also added chorizo to the dish. There’s nothing I don’t like about a crock of melted, gooey cheese. I’ve only had queso fundido once before, and Del Toro’s was wayyy better. It’s served with warm corn tortillas, so we stuffed ourselves on our own little cheese tacos. Del Toro may not be a destination, but the drinks and food are damn good.

Pros: excellent drinks, gorgeous décor Cons: longer public transit ride Must Have: Tamarindo Margarita I was here for an event, so didn’t have a full menu entrée. However, the guacamole was fresh and a large serving. We ordered it spicy, and it had a good heat, but not overwhelming the avocado. The veggie quesadilla was also warm, with big tasty mushroom pieces. The real stars were the excellent drinks. My Tamarindo margarita was tart, but with a spicy kick that paired perfectly with the tequila. It was rimmed with a spiced lime salt. Seriously one of the best composed specially margaritas I have had in the city. I saw the bartender muddling fresh raspberries, mint, and then setting a jalapeño on fire for the jalapeño margarita. This bar really supports craftsmanship.
