We were staying at Hotel Sax just down the street and I needed my suit pressed for a wedding on Saturday. I dropped it off around noon on Friday and they had it ready by noon the next day. I don’t get that kind of service at home. The manager even stayed to make sure I got my suit when I was running late from an appointment. THANKYOU!

I had a busy Saturday — work at my Loop office in the morning and a lunch date with a new girl in River North. I put on a nicely ironed shirt, but the drive into the city and sitting in my cube wrinkled the hell out of it. Worried about first impressions, I left work early to find a solution. I walked into Demos and explained the situation to the lady there. She immediately took my shirt and ironed it perfectly for ten minutes. I was saved! The lady only charged me $ 5, but I gave her $ 10. With restored confidence, the date was a success! I cannot speak for their dry cleaning, but I do appreciate the effort shown to me in a pinch.

I used to patronize this Korean-run dry cleaner when I worked just next store. Honestly, the only reason I came here was because of the convenience. I could pick up my clothes and just walk to work — no muss, no fuss. However, a couple of things occurred to my clothes that would now keep me from returning to this cleaner. 1. Every time I would wear a black shirt that I had dry cleaned by Demos, I would end up with black stains all over my undershirt. Fortunately, all the marks would wash out, but I found that to be very strange. 2. I brought in a suit to be altered once, and was charged nearly $ 30 to have my sleeves lowered. Fine. Again the convenience, but she didn’t even do a good job. The new hem came out uneven. 3. One time I dropped off my clothes on a Saturday, asking if it would be possible for them to be ready on Monday morning. I was given the green light. So, imagine my dismay when I arrive on Monday morning and my clothes are nowhere to be found. I had to walk into work without work clothes, and my manager was not happy. When I walked in after work to pick up my now-useless clothes, she didn’t even offer me a discount or any other incentive to return. After that incident, I stopped going. (Little tidbit, this happens to be the dry cleaner that Chicago celebrity chef Rick Bayless goes to.)
