The General Tsos chicken was covered in garlic sauce. Nothing General Tsos about it. Also while I was waiting for my food there was a homeless man digging through the trash for food.

my usual place was closed for remodel. I looked this one up and saw the nice reviews. I was not impressed. I had the general chicken bland but spicy(if you get that) and my husband had cashew and shrimp. pros: close to my home. clean waiting area nice friendly employee food was warm cons: food was bland adv price per person $ 10 and it’s CASHONLY ** they do have lunch specials for $ 5.75

Very good. Kind staff. I suggest tipping. They are cash only but that works for good food.

Great service, great food, and low prices?!? I think I need to come back here! The lady at the counter was patient as we stood for about 10 minutes to decide what we wanted. She was very nice to us and did not try to rush us as we ordered about 10 dishes. I made sure to get the egg rolls like other reviews suggested. THEYWERECRISPHOTANDFLAVORFUL. I didn’t order enough :/ Everything was still hot by the time we got home and we even had to wait to eat because some dishes were still steaming. All the meat was actual meat and I could decipher everything that was on my plate. I didn’t get a photo though because everything disappeared :/ This food was better than ANY Chinese food back home in San Francisco. Great job!

I ordered Szechuan chicken shrimp fried rice and Mongolian beef for my husband. The chicken is tender juicy spicy but not blinding hot. The fried rice is fresh in flavor delicately seasoned. My husband is picky when it comes to Mongolian beef. It did not make the cut

I remember living in the area and always frequenting this place as a child with my mother. I had not been here for over 6 years so I decided to make the drive with my coworker for our lunch hour. I am so glad we did. It was so worth the drive. The egg-rolls were phenomenal, the lunch specials could serve two, the prices are reasonable and the woman who works there still remembered me and my mother. Definitely will be my go-to when I am craving spicy and delicious Chinese for work.

I love Dragon Gate and have been a loyal longtime customer(25 years). The owners are wonderful and take pride in their business. I decided to write a review because after a long hiatus I decided to order tonight. The food was fresh and delicious. And over the long time I have been eating here the food is always consistently good. I love the egg rolls. Thin and crispy not to greasy. Chicken dishes are great! Prices are reasonable. Yes, there is no delivery and it is cash only but there is always parking in front and it is worth it if I have to stop and get cash. Best Chinese in the RP hands down, with wonderful customer service. You won’t be disappointed. Love, Matt.

The Kind Son of the owners, I believe his name is Steeben is very friendly. The food is very delicious and always on point! And his AWP at Mid is quite strong.

I ordered there Kung Pao chicken as carry out. The food was a little cold when I opened it up in the car, and there where too many water chestnuts for my preference. Next time I go back Ill order something eles and eat inside.

Yummy, yummy. I got the Kung Pao chicken lunch special. The egg roll was crispy and not greasy. These are the smaller egg rolls with a thin wonton wrapper. The fried rice was chewy with a little crunch. The Kung Pao chicken was delicious. Flavorful and not too spicy. I loved the water chestnuts and the chicken was cooked to perfection. Every now and then I’d hit a chunk of pineapple, which normally I don’t care for, but the sweetness added complexity to the spiciness. Yep, I’ll be going back for more. Soon.

This place is fantastic! The best Cantonese/Mandarin in the area. If you have not tried it you need to as soon as you can. I have lived in China for a short time and this food mimics what I had in the restaurants in Beijing and Yenan. The woman that prepares the food is wonderful, super friendly and super helpful. It is a pleasure to support a local business, especially one that is so fantastic!

I had the Kung Pao Chicken, the flavor was amazing, however there were waaaayyy too many water chestnuts. There were more water chestnuts than chicken or veggies in my serving. The Egg Drop soup was thick, but delicious. It’s worth a try, we will go again.

The food was just ok, similar to the other quick Chinese places in the area. It was annoying to have to remember cash(it’s cash only), but I will say the owner is an incredibly nice lady, which brings this up to 3 stars. Food alone would only rate 2.5.

I’m giving this place 5 stars. Let me tell you why. First of all, I’ve tried just about every Chinese delivery place in the Rogers Park/Evanston area, and this is the ONLY place that actually has FLAVOR in the food. Period! The flavor is VERYGOOD… really. It’s well balanced, spicy is hot, it’s deep and rich, etc. I find the texture a tiny bit thick, maybe a little too much oil, BUTTHERE’S FLAVOR!!! Yum… And the sweet lady that was seemingly the only person working tonight when I picked up my food seemed to take pride in what she served me, as I told her I’d ordered from Dragon Gate solely based on the Unilocal reviews. FIVESTARS!!! better than MOST Chinese food places in the city.

Just a quick update, this place is still awesome! Loved the Orange chicken as well as the General Tsos, both are spicy and the chicken is actually nice pieces of juicy chicken, not dry or overly fatty pieces. My one complaint is the cash only policy that makes it hard to come here without planning ahead, since I don’t always have cash on me.

I’m kind of ashamed to admit it, but typically Chinese food is one of the only kind of foods where I prefer the Americanized version(Panda Express!), but this place is an exception if for no other reason than it being ridiculously cheap. I always get pork fried rice($ 3.75) and my girlfriend gets something equally cheap and then we get crab rangoon($ 3.50) and our total is like $ 11 with tax. I usually have enough food leftover that I can bring it to work the next day. This is not a place I would dine in at, I’m not even sure if they have tables and if they do it would be awkward to dine in there.

Another restaurant near my business and how fortunate for me. The food’s just great and the couple that own and run it are the very nicest, sweetest people! It’s the only Chinese place within a mile. It beats to death the 2 others north of it past Lunt st. I love a number of dishes here having learned about them by breaking my — stick with the ‘tried and trues’ rule. The reason i broke my rule was because Dragon Gate’s so close that i eat here constantly, so i was forced to try other things fso that i wouldn’t burn out, know what i mean Verne? My ‘tried and true’ rule is for places that i go to infrequently where i don’t want to risk having a disappointing meal and i have a craving for some particular thing that i like there. Everything I’ve ever had from these wonderful folks has been good so I’m not afraid to try things. In fact, sometimes I’ll request a special concoction or an extra this or that in the dish and it always turns out good. Their prices are very reasonable too. If you like Chinese food you won’t be disappointed here! Things i especially like are pepper steak(with $ 2 of extra meat), pot stickers, combo fried rice with extra veggies, combo egg foo young(that’s still great the next day when its egg foo old), curry dishes, teriaki chicken(all dark meat — yum, yum — a welcome relief from all the damned chicken breast everyone serves nowadays) and the list goes on… Dragon Gate is primarily take out but there are a couple of tables for a quicky meal. Parking’s good because this part of Clark st. is not packed with stores. There’s nearly always a convenient spot right in front or across the street. They close at 9 pm and on Sunday’s. I know someone’s gonna soon notice that i give all 5 star reviews or i don’t give one. That’s because I’m easy to please and i don’t much let small slights irritate me. It’s especially true because i’m a businessman who tries to always give great service to my customers but because this is an imperfect world full of flawed people(especially me) cannot always do so. Like Ricky Nelson sang — ya can’t please everybody, so ya’ve gotta please yasself. I don’t want to suffer a bad review without a chance to right a wrong, so i give other businesses a lot of leeway to do so. Therefore when i encounter a flawed business but i see that the owners /managers are really trying to do it right, I’m not going to drop any stars and hurt them. However, if i think that they’re not bustin’ ass tryin’, you’ll hear me Unilocal about it from the throne, yessiree bob! But for right now, as a new Unilocaler, I’m working from memory to review a place here and a place there, where i’ve really enjoyed things. Later, i’ll probably pan a few dumps like everyone else, even though i prefer to stay positive because it’s better for the bowels of an old geezer like me, know what i mean, Verne?
