I really wanted to like this place. I ordered two grinders, a sausage pizza slice, one chicken and one Malibu chicken. Yes, they are a good size sandwich but not one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. A total of $ 26 and some odd change. Yes, the old man and woman were not friendly, no hello, thanks for coming, nothing. However, as for the food… pizza was not fresh and had soggy crust. The sandwich had a pretty good amount of meat, vegetables, and cheese but, I really couldn’t taste the garlic sauce Unilocalers raved about. I didn’t like whatever pungent cheese they put on top of my sandwich nor, was the chicken seasoned. Iand boyfriend had to add salt and pepper to our sandwiches. The bread was fresh, though. I ended up saving half but eventually, threw it in the garbage. I wasn’t really impressed with this place. I doubt of I’ll return. It wasn’t worth the price I paid.

I visit this place as frequently as I can when I work during the week. I LOVE the pizza by the slice. I buy it every chance I get. The sauce is so flavorful and amazing. This is hands down the best pizza I have ever had. I can’t say no to a cheesy, saucy, perfectly greasy pizza! Even got the hubs hooked. Now he asks me to bring some home all the time. I have had 3 different grinders here and they were good, but it’s the pizza that I go for. On a side note, the couple may come off as rude and grumpy but they mean no harm, and the food makes up for it :)

I ordered the chicken Parmesan Grinder and it was so delicious ! I just picked a random thing off the menu because everything sounded good and I am very happy delivery took only about 20 minutes !!! It arrived way before the estimate delivery time and I’m a very happy customer ! Will order from here again ! Maybe try a different grinder every time ! Haha

This restaurant’s printed menus and Web site state they open at 10:30 a.m. When I arrived at 10:50(the door was open), a woman said they don’t open until 11, and slices of pizza would not be available until 15 minutes later. If you’re not going to honor your Web site, CHANGEIT!

My wife has been going to this hidden gem since the 1980’s. The only place to get an authentic cheese steak grinder. They also have the best mozzarella sticks in the world. We went Sunday evening and in waiting for our friends they ran out of the cheese sticks.

Love this place. I get either the chicken grinder or Philly cheesesteak. Their green peppers are so good I usually don’t even eat green peppers but their taste is like something I’ve never had before

The grinders ate hands down the best in town, BUT the lady behind the counter is a very miserable person she has no customer service skills, I paid for a grinder which was on special 7.99 as I was waiting about 45 minutes for my sandwich I happened to look at my receipt I noticed she over charged me when I brought this to her attention she asked for the receipt I gave it to her she then gives me a death stare opens the register and throws my dollar at me. Please little baby Jesus let that lady burn her arm on the pizza oven next time I order

They should rename this place«Eastern Style Hoagie» or «Eastern Style Grinder» because this is their strength. It was ten years ago when I first visited this place and still now. Pizza, gyros, burgers and hot dogs — You can find them on any corner of this city. But you can’t find a grinder easily in Chicago. And yes they’re not the friendliest of people. Who cares.

I am indeed a fan! We’ve ordered from here a couple times, and I agree they’re not always the most friendly people when we pick up(we always pick up), but really, I’m not ordering for service here. Love: Gyro Grinder(meat could be shaven a bit thinner, but it’s tasty and juicy and great) Philly Chicken Grinder Philly Grinder Greek Chicken —(next time I might sub garlic sauce for the white sauce) One thing about all these are that they have crunchy, light, GOOD bread. I HATE bad sandwich bread. Plus, the meat is cooked well and without questionable pieces(guh), and they don’t overdouse in sauce. They are big enough to split, if you have a side, in my opinion. The spinach pies are also a great appetizer — little triangles of spanikopita that don’t get soggy even after sitting The fries aren’t the best. Sorry. Probably won’t get them again, but you really don’t need them. Never tried the pizza… maybe we will sometime? Maybe not, it’s really just our go to hot sammich place :)

Love me my grinders. You may think the owners are crazy rude but I have grown to love them… only because I love my grinder. You want the best sandwich just deal with the attitude for the 5 minutes of speaking to them. It comes from a good place.(I have made myself believe that) They have been nicer to me as I became a regular. You don’t like it. Don’t go there. I can’t wait to have another grinder sandwich. So this was my first time ordering and I was quite excited. I ordered two slices of pepperoni, a chicken parm grinder with pepperoni on top, a salad, and a gyro. First off, the order was super early. I did not mind one bit. It was about 30 minutes faster than expected and about 30 – 40 minutes after ordering. The employee was polite and my food was hot. I did however get cheese instead of pepperoni pizza. I’m a little bummed, I really like my pepperoni. The pizza was still pretty good and I’ll give em another shot. I called to complain and got an apology and they offered to bring out pepperoni but I felt like a jerk having a driver come out to drop off some pepperoni. I would have preferred like a soda or something next time or a free slice. Oh well. THey did remember to add pepperoni to my chicken parm though: P The chicken on the parm looked like it was chunks off a whole breast. Very tasty and well cooked. I did not care for the peppers and will order without next time, although Im pretty sure I did this time. The nuggets were your typical tyson style nuggets. Nothing fancy but great price. THe salad was made with fresh ingredients and was very delicious. The gyro meat was a bit dry but still tasted great. The grinders here are amazing. Good portions, good price, good ingredients. I’ll be back to try again. Hopefully no mistakes this time.

The grinders are great! Smoking hot from the oven! Great flavor! This is on the way to where my sister went to school. So now it’s a special trip, but it’s one we enjoy making. Great food!

Great pizza joint whenever in West Rogers Park Chicago. This place also has great sandwiches plus the owner is very friendly. This place is family owned with secret recipes.

Last time I was at Eastern style pizza I’m guessing was back in the late 70’s or early 80’s. My go to sandwich has always been the italian beef grinder on garlic bread. The only thing that has changed is the price. Going off memory I think the sandwich sold for about $ 1.99 or $ 2.99 at most, now its $ 8.99, but as good as ever!

I’ve actually never ordered from here before but I will now and here’s why. On Super Bowl Sunday, Feb 1st, 2015, also the worst blizzard this city has seen in years, one of the delivery drivers went above and beyond to ensure that I got my car unstuck from the middle of the street. He was driving a black SUV and making a delivery around 6pm on Lakewood and Albion. He spent a good hour with me shoveling and pushing my car and kept doing so until I got out. One of the kindest people I’ve ever encountered in my life. He even left and made his delivery on foot and returned to help me. Amazing man and deserves a promotion/raise!

This place advertises heavily they are the best New York style pizza in Chicago but instead it’s just average tasting, normal American pizza. It wasn’t bad, but it is NOTNY style by any measure. First of all, it’s cut in squares. Crust is not floppy. Sauce is not sweet. Just regular old pizza you can find anywhere. To make matters worse the staff there was very unfriendly, no smiles of any kind, welcome, hello, thank you, goodbye. And my pizzas were not ready when promised… I waited for nearly 15 minutes in the store without an apology. Won’t be going back.

The grinders are by far the best sandwich you can find anywhere, the combination grinder is by far the best I have ever tried and the pizza is also good from here. This spot is a go to place that never disappoints

I must admit that I laughed OUTLOUD at all the reviews for this place! The descriptions of the«old, cranky man behind the counter» are so funny. And so endearing. My husband has a good relationship with Frank, the cranky man in question, and his wife Sophia. Together they own and operate this business on Touhy.(And have for over 20 years?) Frank is a greek version of a Billy Crystal look-alike. He is all business, but that’s why we love him. My husband and Frank banter back and forth about sports and he has never been brash with us. This couple is adorable and we ALWAYS have a great time at Eastern! It’s a small, but welcoming place. But like it’s already been said… the food is AWESOME.(And which one of us wouldn’t basically dine ANYWHERE for good food. Let’s not pretend that we have standards at all when it comes to great stuff… and another Unilocal review under our belt.) My husband can’t live without getting a chicken grinder at least once a week. Everything is fresh, made to order. Their pasta is also great! Their delivery is fast and we have never had a mistake. We will be frequenting this place until they close their doors… which based on my husband’s love for them… won’t ever happen.
