Rest in peace, El Charrito. I miss you and I love you and I will pour one out for you every time I stumble out of The Owl. I hope the next time I eat one of your amazing tortas isn’t in the afterlife.

I gave it 5 stars because it’s closed! Drove past last night, lights were out, plants were removed from window, and hairy flabby hipsters were no where to be found. Goodbye El Charro!

Ok, El Charro is open 24⁄7 which is nice and all but you’ll only want to eat there if you’re wasted at 4 in the morning. The food is scary. The ladies that work there are straight up rude but I’ll give them a break because I would be too if I had to work that late and deal with the drunk crowd. Fellow drunk idiots, they will try to rip you off. I’m not proud of it, but I’ve been quite a lot since living here the past 3 years and the last(O.K. the second to last) time I went there my friend and I split a vegetarian burrito. We don’t fuck with the meat there. They were busy, tons of drunk people, and we left 10 dollars on the table to cover the burrito and the tip. Our waitress chased after us and said it’s not enough because the chips and salsa is $ 3. I put up a fight because I know for a fact that the chips and salsa are free from going frequently and we didn’t even ask for the chips she just brought them to us. She was trying to play us because she wanted extra money from the drunks. Also there’s a 10 dollar minimum which is annoying. I never have cash after leaving the bars. If you don’t eat all your food, don’t bother with a togo box. You won’t want it the next day, I promise.

This is a 24-hour Mexican restaurant.

Good tortas, great horchata. Open 24 hours. It’s a shame that it’s going to get gutted by that new ramen place. Hopefully they just relocate instead of closing their doors.

Best Mexican breakfast in the area! Probably best food all-around, although not by a huge margin. Wish they served booze, but they make up for the lack of margaritas with giant cups of horchata.

Not many 24 hour places around Logan Square so this place gets big ups for that. Late night Mexican? I’m in! Got a steak burrito and it was delicious. Extra for sour cream and cheese, eh. However, the salsa they serve on the side is so so so good! Some of the best around! Glad to see chips included. Great area with so many good bars nearby. Stop by here after for the munchies.

Me and some peeps showed up here last night after drinking at multiple events for several hours. We were in Logan on Milwaukee and Fullerton around 3am and saw this place was open. We were all hungry and hoping to soak up some alcohol before we called it a night. We got in line and there was maybe 2 people ahead of us, but for some reason they could not take orders in a proper amount of time. I was getting frustrated and took a seat at the counter near the register in hopes of getting my order taken. Finally she got to me and I went with the carne asada burrito which I recall not being too expensive. It didn’t take too long for it to come out thankfully so we were able to eat quickly. The burrito was very bland and lacked flavor… the hot sauce didn’t even help. 4 out of five of us thought our meal was wack. Usually when drunk even the worst late nite eats is pretty decent… this was the exception to that. The one person that enjoyed their meal got some sort of torta platter or something. I probably won’t be back and will look for other options in the area next time I’m drizunk and needing to eat.

Pros: cheap Cons: still not worth it ========================================= I live super close to this place, and have always thought about trying it. Never got around to it until last week… and I regret it. Some things are better left a mystery! Service: I was promptly given a menu — alllll good Food: I ordered the El Charro special plate, thinking it would be a good representation of what the establishment had to offer. Before this, I’ve NEVER in my life had bland Mexican food before. I actually like my food on the«less salted» side, but I seriously found myself wondering if they had salted anything. Proportions were off, the food tasted of just fat/grease without much else going on, and I did not even have the heart to save leftovers. I’m sorry El Charro — it took me awhile to come to you but I will not be returning.

It’s okay. Service isn’t the best. I was nearly ignored after not tipping for a to-go order.

It’s 4am, I don’t have dignity or self respect and I’m hungry. Problem solved.

Decent Mexican food – aka it’s okay if you’re in the area if you’re starving late at night or you’re drunk and need a taco/burrito, as it’s open 24 hours. Otherwise, there are definitely better places to eat Mexican food. Also, if you do make it here, stick to carne asada, their chicken is shredded and very bland/kinda gross.

Mmm… open late night, fast and friendly service despite serving a range of drunkened people out at 2 am, and pretty delicious food. I had a torta which had a good bread, and relatively unsketchy meat. I’m not sure I would come here for lunch or dinner, but it definitely satisfies a late night craving!

Decent Mexican food, the burrito suizo I think is your best option. A lot of melted cheese and the sauce it’s covered in is more mole than salsa. Service can be a bit slow at times. Open 24 hours.

How have I never reviewed you El Charro? You were my strength when I was weak. You were my voice when I couldn’t speak. You were my eyes when I couldn’t see. You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn’t reach. You gave me faith ‘coz you believed. I’m everything I am. Because you loved me. I’m drunk, but this tampiquena is awesome.

Best burgers in town. ONLY2.50!!! The salsa for the chips is muy spicy. Tamales were pretty great. The 7⁄11 next door makes this a great place to dine while traveling. My concierge told me to go here and WOW I couldn’t believe the burger quality. I still can’t handle how juicy it was.

As a soon-to-be Logan Square resident, my friends and I wanted to scope out one of the late-night taco joints in the hood. Open 24/7, which is a huge plus, and plenty of seating to boot. Overall, cheap prices(Tacos for $ 2, burritos for around $ 5) and decent food. I got the veggie taco but my friends got the carne asada and were not displeased. If you’re hungry at 3:52AM, this is a solid option.

i write only reiterate the truth – you really don’t plan to eat here, nor do you eat here sober. Not once, but twice in one night, we wondered in here begging(not literally) for food to quell the acid growing in our liquor bellies. I imagine, if I were sober then, that the tacos were OK – but when you’re not, they were delicious. I’ve been told they’re objectively not very good, but should the objective matter when the drunk subjective is what is experienced? Nope.

When I see people soberly eating El Charro, I cringe and begin dry heaving. I can’t help it… I’ve unfortunately given in to El Charro one too many times. Anyone who has closed down The Owl has most likely stumbled down the street to this 24 hour Mexican joint thinking a 4:30AM burrito sounds like heaven. Even when you’re so drunk that you can’t even formulate a sentence, their burritos taste like trash. I never blamed alcohol whenever I found myself kneeling to the porcelain God, but rather the mistake of eating El Charro the night before. For anyone who thinks about going to El Charro to enjoy some late night grub, I urge you to reconsider this offensive excuse for good late night food… unless of course you’re constipated… then have at it. It’s probably the only time I’d ever encourage anyone to head to El Charro.

This is my number one choice for tacos when the hour grows late and my desire for a fine craft beer is overwhelmed by a desire for a less-fine taco. El Charro has the benefit of being open 24 hours(for you 4AM Owl stragglers), being very cheap, and having genuinely good food(on the late night scale, I mean: I assume you’re not coming here for your anniversary dinner). Although it is usually busy I have never had a problem getting a seat, and the service has been fast and friendly in my experience. And despite its general divey-ness, it is clean and there is no blaring music or TV to assault you when you walk in. My go-to tacos are the lengua and chorizo, which are tasty and heaped with toppings, but if it’s a winter weekend and they’re offering pozole, I would definitely go for that. For $ 6.00 you get a filling stew with plenty of tasty roast meat, definitely just the thing to make that cold walk home a little more pleasant.
