El Original

Very tasty comida! Loved the salsa, tasty tacos and horchata. Would have enjoyed sitting outside but it was too cold! Very friendly staff. Enjoy!

Came here late night with the Mrs. And had thier taco dinner for two and we were surprised that it only had onion and cilantro only. we asked for lettuce and tomato as well and didn’t get it. the price was expensive for what we got just an average place nothing special. won’t be coming back.

I love Mexican food so I am a tough grader. The prices aren’t bad and the food is pretty good. I had a steak tostada and I liked it a lot. My only complaint is that the rice and beans weren’t all that and the mount of «toppings» they put was a little on the cheap side. So was the amount of beans. But I loved their red hot sauce definitely added taste to the meal. Service was nice. It’s a little place with stools. My friend had flautas which I tried. i was not impressed at all by this meal. I Didn’t Like the taste of the tortilla. To me it tasted like an egg roll. But they did stuff it with chichen. But my biggest complaint about this plate was that they were extremely cheap with topings. Flautas are supposed to have a lot more at least cheese and lettuce. Overall i would go to this place if i was in the area or looking for a 24 hour place but only order small things like tacos etc.

Let’s just say it was close to 3 in the morning and we were HUNGRY! Of course most places are closed by then, but El Original was not :) We ordered a bunch of food to go. I went with one steak and one chicken quesadilla. Right off the bat they were interesting cause I’m used to getting them in triangle form and these were sort of rolled up. (not sure how it would of looked if you ate in). Anyways they were good and I liked the salsa that came with it on the side. We also shared chips and guacamole. I wasn’t a fan of the guacamole. I found it quite bland compared to most. This is a decent late night spot if I’m in the area again and need a late night snack. I would say this is an order your food to go spot.

How quaint! I found a 24 hour Mexican Place that doesn’t suck. Woo Hoo!!! Carne Asada Burritos to HIT THE SPOT!

Cheap, quick and tasty! Loved the tacos and the caldos (soups)! On some days they have the beef tripe which is something that isn’t served by many Mexican Restaurants in Chicago.

They have a vegetarian menu, and their veggie fajitas burrito is great, full of an assortment of grilled veggies. Potato flatus are great too, nice and crunchy without being dried out in the middle. Of the faux meats, the soy chorizo is pretty good and tastes better in a burrito than in tacos. The soy asada is a bit bland and disappointing, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

So… as my girl and I drive west on Grand… a sign beckons to me. I see three words that will sell my lovely better half on an unexpected detour from picking out floor tile. «Tacos» and «Vegetarian Menu». So we bop in… order a zucchini taco and a Black Bean Vegetarian burrito. $ 10? The place is clean… I mean eat off the floor clean. Nice décor… and a PATIO that is charming as Piccolo Sogno’s (well, almost). Did I say BYO? Yes… the food was really, really good. Fresh, crisp veggies… thoughtful seasonings that didn’t stray too far from the traditional… and plentiful homemade hot sauce to get things spicy. We met a couple that drives in from Hyde Park on the weekends… and they swore it was the best in the city. I can’t say that I disagree… El Original, indeed. Que bueno…

Best shredded chicken tacos in the city hands down. Very fresh ingredients, always a great meal. Love this place!

Stopped at El Original Chavas Tacos for a quick bite to eat with the family. Restaurant and bathroom is very clean. We ordered cheese quesadillas and steak taco dinners. Services was quick and food was very fresh and good. Definitely would visit again.

I think this is the second location? It’s quite small inside. Probably about 10 seats total.
The food itself is big and it’s tasty. But nothing impressive. It’s standard Mexican food. There’s free parking outside.
Also, they have a sink for the public. I just think it’s a bit odd.
