I went here on a Saturday night and was surprised to find that the back room was wide open. I did not eat here, but they had pretty good beers on tap. I’m somewhat snobby when it comes to beer so I wasn’t expecting much since it comes off as a place that would have domestic bucket specials. I was surprised to enjoy a Stone Smoked Porter and a Lefthand Milk Stout. My friends and I also enjoyed the jukebox, pool table, Golden Tee, and darts. The bartenders were pretty busy, but I didn’t have to wait long for service.

Phew… Flounders was the 4th(and I thought final) stop on Beer Pilgrimage Friday. Now by this point, we had been hitting the craft brews pretty hard for 9 hours, so read this review through some beer goggles and it’ll make perfect sense. *hiccup* I remember talking with the barkeep, and possibly one of the managers, for a while about beer. Fancy that? Anywho, he was impressed on our day of libations thus far and recommended a special Lagunitas blended brew. *burp* I think it was really good. Service was friendly and speedy and the guy behind the bar had a cool hat. They had about 60 TVs in this place, but maybe it was just 30 because I was seeing double. Either way, there were a lot of them.

If I were a sports fan, I would probably give this place a 4 star… but I’m not… Never really had a need or desire to venture into Flounders prior to this weekend. My husBAND had an out of town friend in on Saturday and this is apparently that group’s yearly choice for their day long Fantasy Football picks party. We arrived at about 4 pm on Saturday and the bar was basically dead aside from the Fantasy Football party out on the back patio. We opted to hang out at the bar to avoid the heat and sun. The place is a decent size and fairly quiet. This made it an awesome choice for catching up with the friends. The place is slightly on the grungy side, bathrooms are not horribly scary, and the bar itself has this perma stickyness about it. The bartender was VERY nice and the regulars that did trickle in seemed«interesting». The absolute BEST part about this place is the drink prices!!! A tall Captain and diet with a generous pour is only $ 6.00!!! Are you kidding me… in the city??? I don’t know that I would ever volunteer this place as a choice for our evening, but I won’t go kicking and screaming if someone from our group insists.

Okay, okay, I might be biased since this is a PSU bar, but Flounder’s is awesome. This is the perfect place to come for a game during the fall and stay until you can’t remember who won. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is always buzzing during a Penn State game. I highly recommend their garlic fries but beg you not to talk in the face of others after consuming. I absolutely love coming here and recommend it to anyone new in the city looking to meet fellow PSU alumni.

I like Flounders. A lot. Extremely friendly, personable and accommodating bartenders with a lot of patience for people like me who occasionally have trouble making decisions on what type of beer to order. Very laid back environment and great juke box… great place to meet a lot of friends out for a drink, or pony up to the bar and have a friendly conversation with the bartender. My advice would be: don’t overeat at Peqod’s and save room for a drink at Flounders!

Warning: this post is based off just one menu item at Flounders. GARLIC TOTs!!! Why don’t more places make garlic tots? Best combination ever. The marketplace needs more garlic tot varieties. ’nuff said.

We came here at the perfect time last night, as a ghost tour was stationed here for a spell. Why, you might ask, would a ghost tour be visiting Flounder’s? Ghosts, duh! This is apparently one of the most haunted places in America, hence the reason we visited on our haunted pub tour of duty. Anyway, it was a nice dive-y bar just the way I like them to be. It wasn’t too packed, so we had no problems sitting.

I went to flounders last night for halloween fun. I ended up having a great time. my friend knows the head chef and he brought her out a chili/tortilla soup concoction which was delicious. The bar was butts to nuts when we walked in at 1am and the crowd had taken school buses there from northwestern. Definitely made it fun for people watching.

I went here with three friends last night for nerd trivia. We sat down around 7:45. In ten minute intervals, we got: menus, two of which were blank, which the server didn’t even apologize about when we pointed it out; a first round of drinks; two of our three meals. Two of us got the tacos that were on special, and man, were they special. Salty, cold, and the chicken was covered in so much sauce that today I am afraid of what was wrong with it. I ate my tacos, though, because I was starving. My friend ordered garlic fries and some mac and cheese. After thirty minutes, I asked, «Where is her food?» and the server said, «A lot of tickets went in at once.» Uh, sure, but we were here well before all the other people came in. I won’t dwell on the details, but it took my friend 2.5 hours and an upset, outright /demand/to get her food. They ended up getting our tab, which is the only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of one. Yeah, they were busy, but we got there before the rush, and we had to talk to them waaaay too many times to get this resolved. The trivia was great, though, and the garlic fries WERE delicious. Just sad we didn’t get to enjoy them in a timely manner.

Where else does the bartender have a kick ass cure for your(painful) irritating hiccups? Where else does the bartender chill your(DELICIOUS sandwich) leftovers for you while you see a movie across the street? Where else can you choose between different kinds of fries?(OMG those parm fries are the BEST.) Five stars. Love.

This bar/grill is in a good location and serves pretty good food. If that was all there was to Flounders then they would rate 3 star for being a good hole in the wall. Now, after going to Flounders 3 times for lunch, I have to say their service and their garlic fries are awesome! I have been served by 3 different bartenders and each one seemed to enjoy their job. They had smiles on their faces, were quick to serve and were able to provide good conversation also. All a plus in my book. Then we have the garlic fries, the oh so delicious garlic fries. They are a mound of fresh cut fries smothered in sauteed garlic. They are sssooooo delicious. The only mistake I have made is that when I was done with the fries I had to finish the garlic. My breath and my stomach felt it but it was totally worth it. To wrap it all up, go to Flounders(maybe after a movie or going to Barnes and Noble across the street) and have them garlic fries!

GREATFRIDAYLUNCH!!! I went there last Friday after a buddy of mine found the Friday deal(not sure how or if it’s limited to Friday). We went in there with 6 guys, all had a couple beers, fries and sandwiches and had a $ 36 tab! You can pick out any of there sandwiches(reg $ 8 — 10) and you get a beer for $ 5. DONT be fooled by the appearance(looks just like a regular bar). The food was outstanding and the service was perfect. Highly recommended, I’ll be back every Friday.

Great place to grab good beer and freshly made food. Recently they’ve had Metropolitan Brewing’s doppelbock on tap, which is a seasonal and hard to find around the city. And I thoroughly enjoy the homemade soup I had the last time I was in there. They’ll probably have«the» game on along with some random tunes. There’s a pool table in the back. They have a trivia night and daily food specials, too. Flounder’s isn’t complicated, it is what it is and I like it.

Great place to watch Penn State games. This bar and DarkHorse in wrigley are the official Penn State bars. Crowd was pretty nice and they even had yuengling giveaways. Pretty sweet stuff. They place is alot bigger than it seems from the door too. If you live along the red line there is a bus than runs from the fullerton stop to clyborn which makes it alot easier to get over that way.

Very fun neighborhood bar with a few tvs if you’re looking to watch sports. There’s also a back patio where you can enjoy your drink and food outdoors on a nice day. I’ve even brought my puppy and chilled out here on a low-key Thursday night — staff has always been cool with it. Drink prices are pretty reasonable and food is really good for a bar. Definitely order the $ 2 chicken/steak tacos. Two or three of the tacos will fill you up. If you’re not in the mood for tacos, the chicken tenders are pretty good too.

We were introduced to Flounders by a Nebraska fan and we have since been stopping in every now and then. The space is nice and the staff is friendly. They play an assortment of sports games here so if you are into sports I am sure you will be happy. The food is bar fare but it is really good. Love the burgers and calamari but the kicker is their garlic fries. Those damn thing are so good and very addictive. Don’t even consider smooching someone after throwing down those fries cause nobody is gonna get that close to you. Stop in, have a drink and order those fires!

A plethora of TVs re-playing Cubs highlights — yes! Very solid chicken nachos — yes please. Me and another basically inhaled the plate(me more so because I was starved!) The bartenders were quite friendly, and for this bar’s location, it was pretty refreshing in terms of non-attitude and non-high prices. I’m always pleasantly surprised when a bar has good bar food — usually made even better because I generally think it won’t be good. I didn’t sample much of the beer selection, but there was a seemingly good assortment of beers on tap and of the bottled variety. Not that I’m in the area much, because I try to avoid Lincoln Park like it’s my job, but if I am, it’s good to know this place can provide a good place to have something to eat and a beer without the«LP» attitude.

Floundahs I’m so glad I found yahs!(Woo-hoo New England accent). In the case of Flounders, I decided I must visit multiple times before reviewing. It’s backyard is practically my front yard so one could say, it had me at hello. Still, I wanted to give it the KC seal of approval before I began to gush. Totally the type of place for me — chill, solid food(good appetizer selection which is always a plus when drinking is involved) and a tidy little back deck. Homey near my home — love it! The food is above average bar food in my opinion. Veggie wraps, salads, and sammys are all good. My boyfriend hearts the nachos because they make them with homemade tortilla chips that are a lot less greasy than your average chip. I will eat anything slathered in cheese so they’ve got me there. The waitress we always seem to have is perfect because she’s there when I need her but not at all in my face. Overall, a money spot in my hood and a nice alternative to the much loved Pequods.
