Probably a decent place to go while waiting for a crowded table next door at Pequod’s, but when I came on a Saturday night with a group of friends the service was abysmal. When someone asks a waiter about the beer selection, a waiter shouldn’t respond, «Whatever you like. I don’t really know.» Also, when a woman asks for a cocktail recommendation, the optimal response isn’t, «That depends: are you still in a sorority or do you want a real drink?» I get that some people just have a snarky sense of humor, but the best time to rely on nothing but said sense of humor is probably not at midnight on a Saturday when we’re the only eight customers in your bar.

I don’t really know how to rate. I walked in to see several open tables, but was not able to sit since I just wanted a drink without ordering food. I then just left since no spots at bar. So, I was unable to get a drink at the«Drinking» Bird

Wet my beak… Hilarious! Seriously, The Drinkingbird is a fun little bar. The have a nice selection of beers and cocktails. Their classic Manhattan is not bad, but there are many other options to choose from as well. The inside is dark and intimate. The patio is way better. Class glass-filled fire pits are the rule. Couches surrounding them. Yeah, not the best when it’s -20 °F, but on a cool spring/fall evening, this place rocks. Now, kick out the smokers, and you’ll really have something here! The staff was nice and accommodating, but not terribly attentive on the patio. Make 50% more rounds and you have me won over. Seriously, The Drinkingbird is a cool place. I can’t wait to come back and try the food as well as the drinks.

Came in on a Saturday evening with my husband. Excellent food and drinks. We had the frites, meatballs, burger, pickles and crime brûlée. Everything was excellent — especially the service. Stop in and get a couple of cocktails. No regrets.

No words are needed… The best! It makes me wonder what tastes are out there that haven’t been thought of… Worth the time and the dime!

I absolutely love this place. Consistently impeccable service. Everyone who works there knows exactly what they’re talking about when it comes to food recommendations, beer and wine pairings, as well as cocktails and desserts. I always make a point of having dinner and a drink here with my boyfriend before we see a movie, and then stop back in for a drink or two for a nightcap. The atmosphere is as cozy as it is strikingly attractive. It has the charm of a dive bar but with superbly picked modern décor. I adore their vintage looking neon sign on the back wall of the bar area. Also, the seating is super comfortable whether it be the bar stools with backs, the raised bar tables, or the intimate booths near the back. Overall I’m so impressed with how well the owners keep this place clean, stylish, and updated. Keep up the amazing work!

Solid burger and beer special on Tuesday nights. It’s nice that you can pick which draft of beer you want and the house burger was pretty tasty. The bar itself was cool and it’s wasn’t too crowded here, I’d definitely return for a drink.

The drinking bird has a cool vibe and good drinks… but the bar staff was extremely rude. We dropped a menu and they freaked out and told us not to disrespect their things… at the end of the day it’s only a menu, and we were there to spend money at their bar. Were we wrong to «man handle» their menu book? I guess… but there are better ways to go about it. Idk if the dude with the beard and tats is the owner, but he was an asshole and lost business because of it. The middle aged woman bar tender was rude as well. It’s not a huge deal, but dealing with people in a civil way is a part of being in the service industry.

Nice looking bar located by pequods at the webster clyborn intersection, I thought they’d have a bit more wide beer selection, but the beer I got was still good, very dark mood lighting, kinda hard to see

Not many places I can go to get a classic daiquiri & my bartender understands what I’m looking for. These guys & girls are pros. They love what they do & you’ll love what they serve. It’s always a pleasure

When you walk in to the Bird it has a dive bar, neighborhoody feel to it but when you order the drinks they are made with the quality of a high-end cocktail bar. Sammy is one of the main bartenders there and he can make a drink like it’s nobody’s business. He even gets into the ice often sculpting those beautiful large cubes or preferably spheres of ice that sit into one of his many tasty libations. The drinks here range from strong and bitter to fruity and sweet. But I have never had a bad drink here so that should comfort you. They have a fairly extensive food menu as well. Although the food is hit or miss, the burger and Mac & Cheese are off the charts good. Overall The Bird can appeal to many tastes ranging from fancy $ 12 cocktails to someone who just wants to drink a Miller Lite. So come relax and stay for a while, ask for Sammy, trust me you won’t get a bad drink, pair that with some Mac and your night is set. Drop the mic!

I love this place! Like some of the other folks, I was waiting in line at Pequod’s and my friend happened to notice there was a bar right on the corner. We went in to get some cocktails and they were the tastiest cocktails I’ve ever had. First order was«connect the dots» which was a dainty cocktail. I literally could have drank that in 3 gulps but was trying very much to drink it lady-like. But I still finished it first. Second drink was«door no. 1» which was even better. It came in a tall glass and the flavor was out of this world. I think it has cucumbers in it which gave it a refreshing taste. After my second drink, I went next door to Pequod’s and within minutes we were seated. Had a lovely time at Drinkingbird catching up with a friend and feeling nice a tipsy. Loved the ambiance and the servers.

We stopped here while waiting for our table next door, and it was just the dark, loungey vibe we needed after a long day socializing with a rowdy group. Though we only tasted one of the cocktails(the Old Fashioned, A+), the drinks all had quality, top shelf ingredients that mixed fresh(think mint, ginger, lemon) with your classic bar favs(bitters, sweet vermouth, champagne). The highlight of the experience was the 2 rounds of Frites we opted for to hold us over until dinner. They came perfected seasoned with sage and sea salt, and were complimented with a pair of savory dipping sauces: garlic aioli and zesty romesco. Pure magic. Go here before you fill up on deep dish, and treat yourself to one(maybe 2) drinks to start the evening off right.

Chris, the owner/bartender, Knows. What’s. Up. His food and drinks achieve exactly what they’re supposed to — the flavors are well mixed, and he knows what he’s doing with his ingredients. It’s good food and drink, without any of the pretense. Also make sure to look around you — the décor is really well thought-out and manages to achieve both form and function. All in all, one of the best bar experiences you’ll have in Chicago, unless you’re into places that try too hard. Highly recommended!

Dark lounge bar that makes the perfect spot while you wait for a table at Pequod’s like we did. I am not sure about the prices as a friend picked up our tab but they had a ton of cocktail options that the ladies in our party enjoyed. I just stuck to a simple beer. Not a bad spot at all.

Cool red décor at this watering hole next to Pequods. 4.5 stars Highlights: — Bartender: pretty cool and made us cool drinks too – ones on their list and dealer choice creations based on what we liked — Décor: looks like a dive from the outside but it’s not. It had bright neon signs, a long bar with a few black tables and copper lights in front, and red pleather booths in back. — Not too crowded – at least later on a Thursday night Lowlights: — Don’t be fooled by the pool in back signs: it’s a pool table Wasn’t expecting much and we loved it here. We would’ve stayed longer if we didn’t have to catch a ride back to our hotel.

Tucked next to Parlor Pizza… this is a great place to head to after dinner to enjoy a wide selection of local beers for 5 dollars. You can hang with a friend at the front bar or go towards the back if you have a larger group for a bigger table and possibly play some pool if you’re for it. Or… if you’re looking to have a casual date go towards the back if the summer is nice and enjoy the patio. A great casual place with friendly service.

Stopped here to kill time before getting seated at Pequod’s next door and was pleasantly surprised at the casual but good-craft-cocktail vibe here. Even better was the each pool table in the back. Got a «su novia» because I’ve been on a spice kick and was really happy. The coconut really cuts the chile liqueur down and the cucumber and hint of salt really make the drink extra refreshing!

Like most of the other Unilocalers, came here after a delicious dinner at Pequod’s. Loved the vibe of this place: dark, great music, and fun for groups or couples. We only had one drink, and I honestly can’t remember what I had, so I’m assuming it was nothing to write home about. All in all, I’d definitely come here again next time I’m in the area.

When I was a kid, my very elderly aunt had a pet bird that continuously chirped, bit people, and was just a little asshole… I *HATED* it! The DrinkingBird is his polar opposite — a semi-quiet environment, super cool staff, and cocktails that can never make you think this establishment has asshole tendencies. The vibe is chic and dim — perfect for a date. However, I came with three other ladies and found it to be a good spot for singles too. It’s in a good area, next to pequod’s(if you’re looking for a carb overload of cheesy ass pizza goodness before/after your drinks). I got the Whiskey drink that came with a dark, super sweet cherry(don’t remember the name but see my pic). It was so, so good! Almost as good as Longman and Eagle’s which has been pretty hard to beat in my book. Overall, I really, really liked this bird. Chirp on over there and flap your tipsy wings, my friends. Cheers.
