The hours are unreliable. As much as I have been looking forward to experience some of the vegan donuts with their great reviews, the shop does not seem to be able to keep up with the two days they say they will be open. I went at 10:15 am on a Sunday, well within their posted operating hours, and found they were closed. Their was no note or sign on the door explaining the absence either.

Not sure what is going on here. Showed up at 9am on Saturday and they are closed. Seems to be a theme. Either run by armatures or degenerates.

I have heard good things about this place however have never been able to actually get food here. I have made several attempts to order on the phone for pick up only to be placed on hold and never gotten back to. I have also stopped in as well thinking that may be easier and have found the place to be closed or not serving brunch on that day. I’m not sure if it’s a short staffing issue but it’s definitely an issue which is a hinderence to running a successful business.

Customer service is excellent. However their pastries did not taste fresh and the overall ambiance of the store was not very appealing. I wouldn’t go back for pastries.

BESTVEGANDONUTSINCHICAGO! They also have twinkles and pop tarts! Its a must for a vegan/vegetarian visiting Chicago. Their breakfast menu includes tofu eggs and other delicious items, BUT arrive early and expect a bit of a wait, because they get really busy, and many times run out of their best items.

Honestly, I was very disappointed. I was so excited to try the bakery with my boyfriend. We came from Miami and we are vegans and it was the first place we went to try because of the amazing reviews and pictures. Unfortunately, all the lights were off, but the door was opened, with an «open» sign. We had to yell hello, and a woman came out. She was very sweet, but honestly, very out of it … I feel very sad for her and her business. The cases were all empty, the lights off, and she gave us one doughnut on a paper towel… No plates or napkins… We asked for coffee but it was not given to us ‚. We ended up leaving because it was clearly not open. The doughnut tasted a day or two old. I hope she is able to figure out how to get her business in order because she is very sweet and it appeared to have been a great business prior to our visit.

This place is simply fantastic. I heard that there was vegan goodness here and I had to go check it out for myself. I was not disappointed. The service is super friendly, the owner seems to always be there(take some time off, lady!) and the best of all, the baked goods are delicious. The pop tarts are wonderful. I also tried the cinnamon rolls, twinkies, and four varieities of donuts. Mind you, these were not in one visit… over the course of five or so visits and shared with friends! Each time, I was happily presented with fresh and delicious vegan treats. Not one item disappointed. I will always recommend this place to vegans and non vegans alike. I cannot wait for the next time I need a birthday cake. I will definitely be ordering from Fritz.

AMAZING vegan donuts/doughnuts/delicious fried pastries. I will most assuredly be back, making the haul from the south side even in wind, snow, or rain. Because donut cravings do not just go away. And now that I’ve had these, I’m not sure if I can settle for an average vegan donut when the craving hits.

After returning from a vacation in Paris, my husband and I set out to find the best croissants in Chicago. Armed with research, we chose five different locations and Fritz was above and beyond the BEST. Fresh with just the right amount of flaky to chewy, they were the only ones who rivaled what we had in Paris. *Disclaimer: They did give us the croissant for free because the person who was supposed to be working the counter wasn’t there and after banging the«gong» for service several times they felt bad about our wait. Our judgement of the croissant remains impartial.

Fritz Pastry worked with me and made a vegan cake for my birthday at last minute, and it was delicious! I highly recommend this place, especially if you are vegan and like delicious vegan treats!

You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy doughnuts. And that’s kind of the same thing. Starting my Chicago morning off at the delicious Fitz Pastry was an excellent choice. The cake doughnuts are satisfying in a way that a lot of vegan sweets aren’t. 100% delicious, 100% vegan. There are also a wide variety of non-doughnut food stuff that are good. The café is also perfect for getting some light work done. There is ample seating and lots of natural lightning. Just be sure to come with a fully charged device, as outlets are hard to come by. Vegans(and non-vegans) check this stop out. You will not be disappointed.

I stopped in yesterday after walking by countless times and thinking, «I need to check that place out!» I immediately was drawn to the blueberry pop tart, and the woman behind the counter recommended the cinnamon sugar donut as my second choice. Both were excellent and I will definitely be back to try other items. My dad and I couldn’t say enough good things about both of them, and neither of us are vegan, so please, don’t let that sway you from trying this place out, you will not be disappointed! They also serve brunch, so I plan to go back for that as well.

I got a cake here for my coworker’s birthday, because it came well recommended as «THE place for vegan treats». We were not disappointed! We had a vegan vanilla cake with raspberry filling and raspberry frosting. The cake did sag a little under it’s own weight, and the cake was not your normal light, fluffy cakey texture, it was more dense and moist like a quickbread. That said, it was DELICIOUS. I have no idea how they managed to make buttercream-esque frosting with neither butter nor cream, but I could eat that frosting by the spoonful(and have been)! Definitely the place to go for delicious vegan treats, and I plan on stopping in to try their other items as well.

I haven’t posted a review since moving to the new location, so I figured I should! I’ve loved Fritz Pastry since I moved to Chicago in 2013. The vegan donuts are divine, as well as the scones, muffins, pop tarts, twinkies… did I mention they’re all vegan?! There’s plenty of other pastries as well for omnivorous palates if you are going to visit in mixed company. The brunch is my favorite in the city. I do brunch every Sunday, but Fritz is top on the list. The menu is small and delicious, and has something for everyone! My favorites are the Soul Bowl and Friendship Toast. There’s also macaroons, pies and tarts, vegan paczki from time to time… Jamie is awesome and everything she makes is fantastic! Definitely check them out.

I’m giving this place 2 stars because I’m willing to try again, even though my first experience was really blah. We got a cinnamon sugar donut, which was really dry. But it was Sunday afternoon so I understand most of the best options were snagged in the morning. The coffee was also not satisfying, and came in a little paper cup. The staff also kinda made me feel weird and were a bit too unprofessional even though they were SUPER nice and helpful to us. I love seeing staff enjoying themselves and joking with one another, and I guess the place was empty, but they were swearing and admonishing one another as my boyfriend and I just awkwardly sat there. I kinda felt like I was intruding… Also, I couldn’t find a single outlet, so we left as soon as our computers died even though there was free, good WIFI. Something to keep in mind. Anyway, will try again!

The new location may seem not that different from the old, but most of the changes are on the back end, with many upgrades in the kitchen. This means more yummy vegan pastries. The doughnuts are great, and don’t forget to place your orders for vegan pączki on Pączki Day. They have a small but good menu for brunch, with veg & nonveg items. And the staff is very friendly and helpful. Seriously, super nice.

I enjoyed the food but I’m only giving it 2 stars due to their haphazard service. I went in and wasn’t sure whether there was table service or whether I needed to order at the counter. I figured out it was the latter. I ordered the Madam Benedict and also chose a croissant with goat cheese with raspberry jam in it. The food was great. Here are the issues: 1) When I ordered the madam benedict, I was told there’d be a 45 minute wait because they were backed up with orders. The restaurant was pretty small and 1⁄3 of the people seated had their food already. 2) I ordered an orange juice. Five minutes later, one of the workers comes to me with 2 dollars and change saying he’s refunding me because they ran out of orange juice. 3) Also ordered a soy latte. The worker told me if there was any issue with the taste, he’ll make another one. He said at the moment their machine wasn’t working properly. I didn’t want to bother. 4) You’re responsible for taking your own used dishes and putting it in designated area for washing. They should get rid of this rule for brunch. 5) A loud hurdling scream came from back of the kitchen. It stopped all the customers mid-conversation. One of the workers screamed out of some sort of excitement over some good news. Was this really necessary in a restaurant? This felt more like a fraternity house than a place of business. The food was great but they have to get it together on these issues. The cook doesn’t know how to time manage and the waiters/employees aren’t trained well enough that they should be tending to the customers. Perhaps in order to remedy this situation, they should forego brunch and just stick with selling the pastry goods until they get a handle on things.

Wow! Don’t know how Fritz Pastry pulls it off but they offer some damn delicious pastries. Came here for the first time on Valentine’s to get some vegan goods and they are separated in a showing case, away from the non-vegan buttery croissants laid out on on the table. I ordered one of each vegan pastry they had to offer and was blown away by the tastiness. My favorite of all was the red velvet vegan twinkie– holy crap! At first I was reluctant to get one mainly because when you order a twinkie, it’s a pretty slippery slope from there. Luckily the pastry seller Matt convinced me that it was«oooooh delicious.» He was right. The cake was soft and chocolatey and their was the perfect amount of cream. I also had the cinnamon roll which was massive, cinnamony, sweet, but not too sugary. Gifted away the others but was impressed and would come here in a heartbeat even though I’m not a vegan. Servers are friendly and they offer great choices for those not wanting to indulge in dairy. Wonderful find!

I can only vouch for the pastries, but i had five of them(all vegan!) and every single one was good. The poptart… left me speechless. All were delicious, but Dear baby Jesus was it good. Unilocal lies — they are actually open till 7PM(!!!). Service fabulous and everyone is extremely nice. I can’t wait to try their vegan brunch items!

We visited on the first day they opened at their new location on Lincoln. They have ridiculously tasty vegan options! Keep them coming, we’ll be back for more! Great coffee, great donuts, and great staff.
