Erin fixed my dreads (I had one messed up «dread») in as little as 20 – 25 min. Very nice and helpful, I am going again forrsure for clean ups! :) Thanks Erin.

I came in to see Erin about finally having my dreadlocks installed. I have pretty straight hair that kind of starts to get wavy at around 4 – 5 inches (my hair was 10+ inches when I came in for dreads). I was going to get my dreadlocks done with some friends in Portland, but opted to come into a salon where I could have Erin take a look and see if she could help me dread!
I am SO glad I came in because Erin did an AMAZING job on my dreadlocks. For all those out there considering a place to start and/​or maintain your dreadlocks, look no further, Erin is your lady. She knows dreadlocks and then some.

I wanted dreads for seven years, but I had to find that certain someone that I could trust to do it. I’d seen too many friends mangle their hair in an attempt to get dreadlocks. And then, I found the gspot. My consultation with Erin was amazing. She answered all my questions and made me feel confident she could make my dreams happen.
I came back a couple months later and got my dreads. In a few hours, I was transformed. Erin and I had great conversation all the while. It was great to not only have a new look, but I felt equipped to take good care of it.
After about 10 days, I had some questions come up and I sent Erin and email. By that afternoon, I had all my questions answered. Making a big change is really great, but to have support to back you up is even better.
Don’t let someone jack up your hair. Don’t keep putting off getting dreads.

G Spot is fantastic! I was getting my dreadlock maintenance done there when I had them (just recently decided to remove them) and Erin was the best! I hope to keep finding reasons to come into the city to visit her salon. It seems like this is the place to go for anything unconventional that a lot of salons simply won’t tackle.

In August 2013 I got my dreadlocks out in Portland, OR — upon my return to chi-​town I realized I didn’t know what to do with them to keep then «neat» lol.
All of the you tube videos didn’t help.
After a Reiki client/​student of mine got her dreads she told me about ERIN and g-​Spot and I go to her every 4 – 5 weeks to clean up and tighten up my white girl dreads.

Great salon and staff! They really listened to what I was looking for and made me feel amazing after I left! It’s taken me over a year of living in Chicago to find a salon I can call home and I’m so happy I found them! Very reasonable priced for cut and color.

Growing out a pixie cut sucks. I never thought I could afford extensions to even my hair length but decided to stop in and ended up scheduling a free consult! Erin was awesome and took the time to listen to what I wanted. She was able to accommodate my budget and the thinner parts of my re growing hair due to past struggles with trichotillomania and really knows what she’s talking about. Awesome service and follow-​up (text/​email reminders) and I’ve never felt more confident about my hair!

I recently saw Alyse for the first time. She gave me the best hair cut I’ve ever had. I will be going back on a regular basis.

I would say this shop could be good for someone on a limited budget for doing fun temporary things to your hair like a halloween hairdo, or cheap dreadlocks or you want temporary funky color/​wave strands of hair etc. Worst Salon ever. Not so good if you’re in a business that your hair and look is critical to your success.
I spoke with ERIN about replacing my existing extensions (Microlink method) and she claimed she offers 3 methods, sew in (weave), Microlink method & Keratin fusion.
I explained to Erin I wanted to use my existing hair & I didn’t want to lose length & I wanted the best quality because it needed to look like my own hair and not extensions.
She recommended a sew in method and said id lose only 1 to 1.5 inches so she kept my existing hair and treated it the evening before.
Looked like I bought hair at a flea market and had a horse install it. I lost 4+ inches of hair & her recommended «sew in method» looked like a $ 20 weave… Also the hair lost it’s depth, color & thickness & was completely impossible to brush.
Being very disappointed, the next day I requested (and offered to pay for) the Microlink method. She admitted she wasn’t all that familiar with the method and didn’t have the product. So I asked to have them removed (offered to pay) but 2 weeks out she couldn’t fit me in her schedule.
I was looking for expert advise & clearly gave the sew in option because thats her level of expertise and the only method she knows. I found a real expert which removed Erin’s mess & charged a lot of money for new hair and used a keratin bond method. superior

Let me first say that I’m not a girl with dreadlocks or extensions (love them, just not on me with a semi-​corporate job). I say that because from the reviews it looks like it’s a popular spot for non-​traditional styles. I’m here to say it’s great for the more traditional styles too!
I had a bad cut two times ago where the chick went nuts with choppy layers. My good friend tried to fix it last cut, but I was unwilling to let her take off length so I still had chops. Alyse cured all of that with this last cut. My hair moves so well and doesn’t look chunky. Her expert blending without sections of blunt layers makes my fine hair fabulous! Already booked a second appointment for a color correction to truly fix my hair from the last two f**k ups. (will update after color)
My search for a city based stylist seems to be over. Thanks, Alyse!

I have to start this review by saying that this was not my first attempt at dreads. I have tried probably every method out there and also went to other salons in order to achieve my dreaded dream. It has been a complete nightmare until I found G spot and met Erin and Alyse. These 2 ladies are AMAZING and EXTREMELY knowledgeable when it comes to dreadlocks. I finally have my beautiful locs and couldn’t be happier. Since I had such bad experiences in the past I had the worst anxiety about my appointment today and Erin made me feel comfortable and confident that I was in great hands. Do yourself a MASSIVE favor and save your time and money and make this your one and only stop you won’t be disappointed.

I probably spent a good 6 months searching for a hair stylist to cut my 4-​year old Sisterlocks (hundreds of small dreadlocks for those unfamiliar with them). After searching online, I came across G Spot Hair Design. I made an appointment with Erin through email, which was very easy to do. Erin took the time to talk to me about caring for my hair and was very confident in cutting it. I felt at ease the entire time (I was really nervous to cut so much of my hair!). The end product was great, the price was reasonable, and I’ll definitely be back at a later time, possibly for some color.

G Spot rocks! Erin and Alyce have a passion about their their chosen career and it shows. They have a high level of expertise in color, cutting and styling. Their ability in this realm is second to none. I enjoy the vibe at G Spot– it is not ego driven around there. The talent, kindness and commitment to hair is paramount and it shows. They communicate and listen to ones needs and wants. You will not regret walking in the door and staying awhile!

I had an excellent consultation w Erin today for partial dreadlocks ! She was so knowledgable and friendly that I immediately felt at ease. This was my first dreadlock experience. 2 photos and 2 minutes later Erin knew exactly what I wanted. She was so «on» that we had time to put 6 dreads in place. I love my hair !!! Can’t wait to go back next month for some more :)
PS I’m in my 40’s and my hair still looks very professional if anyone is on the fence about getting a few.

I can’t wait to go see Alyse again next Friday and get my hair done! I have been getting my hair done by Alyse for years and I have not found anyone that can give me a better hair cut and color (short, long, layers, I have done it all). I even had extensions for a brief period of time and I always leave the salon a happy customer.
Even after my move to San Francisco I still make sure I go see Alyse any time I am in Chicago! I highly recommend G Spot Hair Design!

Ahhh thank GOD for this salon… After moving to Chicago from LA, I was desperately in search of a salon that knew what they were doing with my mature, natural blonde dreadlocks. I made an appointment with Erin, one of the owners, and the moment we started chatting, I knew this was my new «go-​to» salon. Erin has been working with dreadlocks and dread extensions for years and knows exactly what to do based on the type of hair you have. She did some maintenance, a bit of dyeing, and tied in an extension that matched my hair perfectly.
I fully trust Erin with my hair (and that’s saying A LOT since I am beyond anal about my dreads). They also sell in organic hair products and carry the Knotty Boy Dreadlock product line. They are a green salon and recycle too! You won’t be disappointed at G Spot!

I was considering having my natural dreads extended & had a free half hour consultation with Erin to talk about all the options. She explained everything very well & was very clear about prices. She didn’t try to push me into deciding one way or another, which I really appreciate.
After thinking about it for a while I decided not go for extensions but just do a maintenance instead. Erin works extremly fast and, to my surprise she did it with a technique that did not hurt as much as previous maintenance sessions at other salons! Maintenance of natural dreadlocks means working close to the roots of your hair which can be a bit of a pain sometimes.
I’ll be certainly going back to this salon and would recommend it to anyone with a need for work being done on their dreads!

I’ve been to G Spot twice now and I have been SO happy with them both times. I recently had my hair cut by Alyse and it’s one of the best hair cuts I’ve ever had. She took alot of time with my hair and making sure it was how I wanted it to be. She answered any questions I had and you can tell everyone there is very knowledgeable in what they do. This place is fun, relaxed and great. I’ve been complimented non stop on my hair since!

Erin is amazing. After 10 years, she’s the only stylist that can work with my fine hair and colors it perfectly to my liking. I’ve followed her around the Wicker Park area and so happy she’s running her own place.
