Globalcon Logistics. Where do I begin? Do I begin with the fact that they unloaded nearly half of my belongings onto a sidewalk in San Francisco? Do I begin with the fact that I just won a PayPal dispute with them because I bought«additional insurance» from them, but they refused to send out a claims inspector for the damage? No. I think I’ll begin at UShip. UShip is where it all started. UShip is a website where you have movers bid on your move. My boyfriend and I needed to move our entire house of stuff from Cincinnati to SF, and we thought we would try it out. A company called Globalcon Logistics bid on our move, and had 94% positive feedback. We set it up to have them move us, PayPaled them the deposit, and that’s where the trouble started. 1. We needed to get back to Cincinnati to let them into our storage units, but they did not return our e-mails in a timely manner, nor did they return our phone calls. All we needed to know was WHEN they were going to be loading our stuff — Would it be before Dec 29th? It was seriously like pulling teeth to get them to answer us. Meanwhile they flooded me with unrelated e-mails, asking for information I had already given them. 2. We finally get the date and my boyfriend meets the driver in Cincinnati. The driver gets stuck in the snow at BOTH storage units. The driver had to have his local hired help shovel him out, and by the time the truck was free, the local help had«timed out». In other words, Globalcon didn’t want to pay them any money, so the driver sent them home. Yes, with a storage unit full of stuff, the moving company sent the movers home because they had already used up their time on the clock shoveling out the driver. WTF!!! My boyfriend paid the help to stay on out of his own pocket. 3. Globalcon can’t tell us when the truck will arrive. They keep changing the day on us. We were flexible, except for the fact that they needed us to get them a parking permit for our street. Parking permits need to be secured 72 hours in advance, and about 75 hours in advance Globalcon finally told us that they would arrive either Saturday night or Sunday morning. We went and got the permit for $ 180, which Jackie at Globalcon told us she would split the cost of with us. 4. The Tow Zone signs got put up by the police. If you live in SF, you know how those work. People either obey the signs and don’t get towed, or they park there and you call to have them towed since they had a 72 hour+ warning not to park there. 5. My boyfriend and I awake on Sat. morning to frantic calls and texts on our cell phones. It’s 7:30, and the truck is outside of our apt. PROBLEM: My boyfriend and I are an hour outside of town because 2 days earlier they told us that the truck would leave LA for SFNOEARLIER than 10am on Saturday morning. Jackie from Globalcon told us that there were cars on the street where the truck needed to park. I told her to have the driver call the number on the sign and tow the cars, and that by the time my boyfriend and i got back the cars would be gone and we’d be all set. She texted me that she would tell the driver to call. 6. This is where it really gets good. We drive up and see that the cars are all still there ANDHALFOFOURBELONGINGSHAVEBEENUNLOADEDONTOTHESIDEWALK!!! Have you ever been to San Francisco? Putting something onto the sidewalk means it’s free for the taking. We nearly had heart attacks. 7. We meet the driver and movers, get no apologies, and then they start moving our stuff in. While the damage wasn’t awful, there was noticeable damage to a few pieces. «Wow,» we naively thought, «Thank God we paid for extra insurance». 8. The driver apparently fired his 2 movers after screaming at them, and then paid two randoms off of the street to finish moving our things in. 9. The stuff gets loaded in, we point out the damages, and driver agrees. It’s at this point he refuses to split the cost of the parking permit per our agreement. We suck it up, pay the rest of the money, and then he makes some snide remark about us not tipping him. You have to be kidding. 10. After a lot of unanswered e-mails, we file a dispute with PayPal to recover the extra $ 275 in insurance money bc Globalcon refuses to send out a claims inspector. Our hunch? They never purchased insurance for us at all and just pocketed the money. We won the dispute. All in all, a MISERABLE experience. I left feedback on the UShip website and their response was classic.
