Quality Move

The only reason they are getting 1 star is because I have to give a rating. The delivery drivers who bought items today June 19, 2013 were the only positive experience with this company. I will be posting pictures. To any of my friends who may read the below review please excuse the language.
Quality Move have been the worst moving company I have used in my life. I have relocated 4 times for job and this has been far been the worst experience ever. The lack of follow up to communication about deliveries to simply return a call in regards to a question has been the worst. The communication is horrible. It started with the day of pick up I had to call upwards of 20 times give or take calling to determine when the drivers would come to pick up my stuff anytime I got someone if at all I was told they were to busy and would call back in 5 minutes. After 30 minutes I would call back to see and all I was told is that they were trying to get in touch with the driver. This happened all day long beginning at 8:00am on May 1. Finally after waiting all day at approximately6:45 in the evening I get a call saying the drivers were waiting at my home. I had pretty much given up at that point. After the driver finally showed up it took another hour waiting on the paper work for the move, by the time they started it was 9:30pm. When they finally finished it was around midnight. Keep in mind my unit was only about 700sq. ft with the only large item being a queen sized bed and box spring. Finally today June 19, 2013 I received my belongings. The only plus side to your company has been the delivery drivers who brought my items today. I had more contact and follow up from the delivery driver in the last two days than I have the entire time dealing with your bullshit ass company. Below are items that were damaged during the month and half long move. The items include 2 cake stands, picture that your team boxed up, a tissue box holder, vase, mountain bike parts damaged on $ 800 mountain bike. See attached pictures and more to follow. The boxes when received them looked as if they had been stood on trampled, thrown around and whatever else can happen. I will be sending more pictures and posting to Unilocal,facebook and whoever else I can think of. Oh the most important thing. After being quoted a price of $ 1740 with a very accurate inventory, when the packers arrived at the house my price jumped from $ 1740 to $ 2800 and keep in mind I had fewer items than I did with the quote. Your company sucks and I think I may even report you to the better business bureau. The only reason I continue with the move after this shitty start was I could not afford to lose the deposit I had paid, otherwise I would have went with another company.
As for you Joelr from First call movers I see you are just a typical lying salesman. Who once the sale was made there was no other contact even after numerous phone and email attempts, you are a piece of SHIT as well and I hope you rot in hell.

they estimated two weeks to move my one-​bedroom apartment from chicago to los angeles. instead it took them 6 weeks! as I called every other day, there was always a new excuse and assurances it would be here in a few days, so I couldn’t even properly prepare myself and my life for an extra month without any stuff. now I’m trying to get some money back, and they’re giving me the run-​around. first denied, then offered $ 50. We spent about $ 50 a day on eating out alone!
they were referred from a friend, so i thought i was choosing wisely. big mistake.

These guys are great. Showed up on time, were extremely efficient and were fun to be around

Hi this is an update to a previous review. After getting feedback from people we decided to pay the extra money and have our belongings delivered. Big mistake!
To make it short… only part of our belongings were delivered. They basically did a «dump and run». Boxes and items everywhere so we wouldn’t notice all the items we were missing. All our kitchen boxes, Brian’s clothing, alot of my clothing, part of our couch, armoire, headboard, nightstands… and so much more. Yes we’ve gone to the police and have spoken with the Broker from First Call, who set up this move with Quality Move. The legal department at First Call who is basically a man named Dave. We have spoken to everyone we could at Quality Move, no help. They say we have all our things. Supposedly we had a phone call set up with «the owner» Gastan last Tuesday and were told not to question him but just please ask him nicely for our belongings! Are you kidding me? I feel like I’m negotiating a drug deal or something. Is this really all necessary? All we want is our belongings back. Is it too much to ask for all the items listed on our inventory sheet to have been delivered? Supposedly it’s still being held hostage by an employee of Quality Move named Wallace. So as it stands we have about ½ our belongings and no one who wants to take responsibility for us not having the rest.
Please please do not do business with either of these companies. Total rip off and no one to help you.
Hopefully soon I can update you that we have received all our belongings.

I would give them zero or negative stars if I could !!
First, on August 24^th, for a move to San Diego, the movers do not show up as scheduled three weeks prior. I’m told, when I call, that my work order was somehow cancelled.
When they do show up 8 hours late, I am handed a $ 1440 increase in the price over the quote. I had even decided to sell five pieces of furniture prior to the move, so there was actually less than on my quote !! I am threatened when I ask about the price increase. The foreman, Alex, asks me if I want them to take my stuff off the truck !
Instead of the promised date of September 1^st (which I was fully prepared to give an extra day or two beyond), my belongings don’t arrive until September 22^nd !!!
Believe me, I understand the moving process and that the arrival time is an estimate but I built in extra time for that. I was told that management was reviewing my complaint on the huge price increase. In three weeks, I received no response, even after several phone calls. I was repeatedly lied to by Rachel and John. Kevin, my original contact was nowhere to be found whenever I called back. There was always a lie and a BS excuse for whatever I asked.
I was told the truck left on Sept 7^th, by Kevin. Then I was told Sept 12^th, by Vivian. Rachel tells me there was truck repair trouble and it’s now going to be as late as Sept 24^th. Finally, on Sept 22^nd, it arrives. I again call to get an answer to my price increase complaint. John told me he was going to call me back. He never does. What a bunch of liars and dishonest business practices. One of the worst experiences of my life ! These people are why the new laws are going into effect on October 1^st regarding the new federal oversight of moving companies. This group at Quality Move are like a bunch of thieving gangsters !
And of course, all they accept is csh or Postal money orders. Guess why !!!

My experience with these movers inspired me to get a Unilocal account.
Short version: Company quoted me lowest rate, and went with them despite their negative Unilocal reviews. Movers were 5 hours late with no communication/​status updates for the first 4 hours. Movers were unprofessional, but moved everything carefully and efficiently. Horrible customer service from headquarters.
Long version: I gave this company the benefit of the doubt and booked my move with them for Wednesday, June 27^th at 12 PM. They quoted me $ 195 for 2 hours including materials for a small one bedroom elevator-​to-​elevator move. I was moving 8 large boxes, a bed, dresser and nightstand from Rogers Park to East Lakeview – simple move. They were supposed to arrive between 12 and 2 PM. I took a half day at work and was at my apartment at noon.
2 PM: No word from the movers. I called Quality and the man who answered said they would try to get in touch with my movers.
2:30 PM: No word from the company or the movers. Called back and a woman told me she had ‘texted my driver’ and had not gotten a response. I asked if she could possibly call him and call me back right away either way. She said yes.
3:00 PM: No word from the company or the movers. I called my local U-​HAUL to check the availability of a small cargo van. I had reserved the elevator at my new building and had to move that night, one way or another.
3:15 PM: No word from the company or the movers. I called Quality again and the woman said she couldn’t get in touch with the driver and he must be on the road because they don’t answer their phones while driving. I asked if she could call the other mover on my job who would presumably not be driving and able to pick up the phone. She said she did not know who the other mover assigned to the truck was, but that she’d look into it and call me back.
3:45 PM: No word from the company or the movers. I called and told them to forget about it – I was getting a U-​HAUL. I decided I’d find some way to move myself that evening.
4:15 PM: Received a phone call from the driver, Wes. He said they had just finished the job before me and could be on their way immediately. He had no idea I had already cancelled the job. I said if they’d give me $ 50 off, I’d go forward with the move. I called him back 15 minutes later and he said that they wouldn’t give me any money off but that they could come right away. None of my friends or family were available to help me move, so I went for it.
4:30 PM: I called Quality and asked to speak to a supervisor/​manager. I explained the whole situation, and she informed me that the movers didn’t have reception at their previous job. She refused to discount the price, so I requested a guarantee that I would not be charged for over two hours (I was concerned that now I was moving during rush hour instead of at 1 PM as originally planned, I would encounter traffic, slowing down the moving process). She said there wouldn’t be any traffic by the time they had my things loaded and refused to make such a guarantee (traffic psychic?). I politely let her know that I had the intention of writing a negative Unilocal review because she was making no effort to remedy my situation. After raising her voice at me for ‘threatening’ her, she offered to give me free supplies (shrink wrap, wardrobe boxes, tape – the supplies I was originally told were included in the quoted price…).
5 PM: Wes and his partner arrived and I started on the paperwork. They were very apologetic and explained that they didn’t have reception at the previous job, and that it was a much bigger job than the customer had told them/​than they had quoted. (These do not qualify as valid excuses to me for many reasons…) They started moving me at 5:20 PM, and we left my old building at 6:15 PM. We finished unloading at the new place at 8:30 PM.
At 5:45 the aforementioned woman called to see how the move was going and to apologize again. I appreciated her calmed tone and taking the time to follow up with me.
Wes had great customer service and was very polite. However, his partner (whose name escapes me) acted very unprofessional/​immature once we arrived at my new apartment and my father and boyfriend showed up. He repeatedly insulted my boyfriend and was saying that he was my dad’s age but my dad didn’t have his ‘guns’ or 6-​pack (while proceeding to flex & lift up his shirt). I’m not some uptight person, but my movers don’t need to be my best friends – just do your job.
Pros: Wes’ customer service. Did not charge me for over 2 hours. Wes and his partner carefully wrapped everything and all my cheap IKEA particle board furniture was undamaged.
Needless to say, I will never be using Quality again.

One star is too many for the service that was provided. They broke one of my living room end tables and they denied every loading it or even that I had two. I called over to the loading dock from the building that I moved from and sure enough, the end table was broken and thrown in a corner of the loading dock. I couldn’t believe the dishonesty. The most unprofessional service that I have ever encountered.
There are many moving companies out there and prices are competitive, stay away from Qulaity move. And by the way, there insurance??? It covered pennies on the dollar. My $ 600 end table was worth less than 25.00. So much for the insurance.
Also, what was quoted was 6 hours and I swear it took 12 hours… such a rip off and once you are in the middle of the move, it is no turning back. You just sit back and wonder how you got suckered in to this BS.

One of the worst experiences of my life — they deserve negative stars. We moved from Chicago to Florida and chose this company because they said they could work with our timing since we were moving mid-​month. Then we found out the sales team is completely full of it and will say anything to make a sale.
The 4 guys packing and loading the truck were fine — definitely not the best I’ve seen — more about speed than being careful, but it was okay. When we signed the paperwork, there were all these hidden costs over the original quote — like hundreds of dollars over — extra costs for stairs, more truck space than they estimated, and because our apt. doesn’t allow semi-​trucks. We agreed to the costs, because at that point, we had no choice and just wanted to get to Florida. We arrived to our new empty apt. on Wed., and were told to expect our truck as early as Thurs. and by Monday for sure. We called on Thursday and Friday to get a status update, and no one would get back to us because they were «moving offices and the office was chaos.» As if that’s an excuse to stop serving your customers. Finally, someone called us and said to just call the trucker — here’s his number. So now we’re calling a truck driver on his cell phone on a Saturday because no one at Quality knows what’s going on.
The truck driver tells us that he’s on his way to Virginia, has 11 shipments before ours, and probably will be in town in a WEEK or so. We’ve been sleeping on the floor living out of a suitcase for 3 days now, and he’s telling us it’ll be another week. We call Quality back, they are very rude but tell us they’ll reroute the truck, and then we never hear from them again. So we call the truck driver back, and he says there’s no way he can reroute because of the way the truck is loaded. Basically, the communication was HORRIBLE, and we realized there was nothing we could do but wait. So we bought an air mattress and dishes and more underwear and just waited. The truck driver showed up the following Sunday…18 days after our move. So much for the «7 day window» they promised us. And in the tiny print on the contract, they have an out saying there’s nothing you can do if they deliver your stuff within 30 days and all verbal agreements are null and void. The timing was unbelievable and the sales guys (I believe we worked with Kevin and Tabitha) are creeps.
But it gets better! When the trucker, Horace, arrived in Tampa, he acted like it was new news that we couldn’t have a semi in our apt. community, even though Quality had told us they were arranging for a shuttle truck to drive our stuff in. He said he «couldn’t find a truck» because now it’s the 1^st of the month and everyone is moving. Frustrated, I started calling around myself and the first UHaul store I called in our town had a truck. Horace obviously didn’t even try. So I had to rent a UHaul myself, drive it to a parking lot to meet him, and wait for them to load everything from the big truck to the small truck. This process took 6 hours, because it was an old trucker and one other guy and they were moving slower than snails. By the time they finally got to the house with the smaller truck, it took another 4 hours of unloading before they were too tired to keep on. So we bought them dinner, they went to bed and came back again in the morning to finish the move (we had to take off work and pay an extra day for the UHaul). It took them 5x longer to unload the truck than it did to pack and load it! And to top it off, they said we had to pay in cash or a cashier’s check, even though Quality had said they accepted credit cards, so we had to go to 3 different ATMs to get the cash last minute.

Quality Move is a Scam, and They Hold Your Stuff Hostage
[Moving Quote was $ 1,065. After the move started, my move cost $ 2,450 plus tip… ALL payable only in cash]
The bottomline is that each person there is incredibly incompetent and solely out to gouge the customer. This is a long read, but is hopefully comprehensive.
It’s actually an incredibly slick operation — here’s the rundown:
1) Danielle, the sales person, is annoying in her tenacity, but when you do speak to her live, she tells you all the things you’d want to hear: «We’re fully licensed, we’ll match any offer, we are very sophisticated». She’ll run you through paperwork, say that you can pay any way that you need (I was coordinating the move from out of state so needed to pay with debit card rather than drop off cash), and ultimately appeared very helpful.
So you sign up…
2) Once you sign up, you’re passed from Danielle to a «moving coordinator» that is assigned to your move. In this case, I had Tabitha. Tabitha called me and we scheduled the movers to arrive, and off we went.
3) The movers arrived 5 hours later than expected, and there was a mix-​up in movers. I was out-​of-​state, so my brother unfortunately had to wait for them. The movers at the apartment could not do my move — they could only do local moves… but this was a long distance move. After numerous calls to various parties, we finally had the right movers in place. At this point, it’s 7 hours after their scheduled pickup window, and my brother is ready to kill me.
4) The movers loaded all my apartment into a truck, and then had my brother sign off on the paperwork. It was here the shock started. The quote I had received from Danielle was $ 1,065 for a Chicago — NYC move. After they loaded my stuff in the truck, the form read $ 1,765! At this point, I was on the phone with them and asked them why the extra $ 700 charge, and they said, «it’s because of the extra materials we used.» Get this: for every box that they use, they charge you $ 30. Per box. I had 6 extra boxes, but you can only use THEIR boxes. For every item that is shrink wrapped (all your dining room chairs, etc), they charge you $ 27 PER ITEM. In the contract you sign, it says «incidentals needed for the move will be charged at an appropriate cost».
I told the movers that I wouldn’t pay for those costs, and they said, «fine, we’ll unload all your stuff.» Meanwhile, my lease was expiring the next day, and you can NOT find a cross country mover in 24 hours. I had no choice. So I told my brother to sign the document.
5) I immediately called Tabitha. She was off that day. Nice. So I called Danielle, and after hearing my story, Danielle was «aghast». She said to me, «This is unbelievable, let me get to the bottom of this — give me 15 minutes and I’ll call you back». She never called back. An hour goes by — I call back, and no one answers. I try again an hour later. She does not pick-​up. That was on a Friday.
6) On Monday, I call back and got someone live, and I asked for Danielle. The operator gets my name, checks, and comes back to the phone saying «Danielle is out all week on vacation.» Nice. I ask for Tabitha, and Tabitha gets on the phone, hears what I say, and she goes, «hmm…there is no record that you called and talked to Danielle. She made no notes in your account on Friday. She’s very incompetent.» Nice. «So…what should I do about the aggregious charges», I ask. «You have to pay it, or they won’t deliver your stuff. And by the way, we need you to pay us 60% of your move today. In cash. We won’t accept card payments.»
WOW. This was an issue. I’m out-​of-​state, and I made certain that I could be able to use my debit card for the upfront deposit. I ultimately had to wire money to my brother, who then had to drive up to the office to deliver the money. Complete disaster.
7) Upon delivery in NY, the moving truck itself is a massive 35 foot rig. That’s how they do all their moves. It is IMPOSSIBLE for the truck to go down any normal city blocks. And guess what — if the truck can’t go down normal city blocks, they charge you EXTRA for a «shuttle» service… i.e. $ 700 MORE. That is payable, in cash, before they start moving. In the contract, it references the shuttle service, but when I asked Danielle, she told me «that’s only if there’s not a street that accesses a place close to your front door.» When I told Tabitha what Danielle said, her response was, «hmm…no, that’s just not true. Danielle mixes a lot of things up.» Nice.
The movers themselves were really nice about the move and very good. The Company, however, a complete disaster. Tabitha — I think — was high everytime I spoke with her; Danielle disappeared entirely… and because you’re dealing with more than one person at Quality Move, they just blame the other person. It’s ridiculous.

Absolutely horrible! Showed up 2 hours late. Didn’t wrap the furniture that we paid to have wrapped. There was a language barrier. Got in my face about being late. Over charged us because it didn’t take as much time as we paid for. No one would answer calls on the morning of to tell us what was going on. I would have rather paid an extra 200 for people who are professional, trustworthy, and …
I received a phone call from Human Resources in regards to my previous review. I was told that I had to change my review to avoid being contacted by their lawyer. They used intimidation to try a force a positive review. I would advise against any one ever using this company. I would rather hire people off of craigslist!

Beware — Beware — Beware!
Quality Move is a crooked moving company who deserves 0 stars. Keep your precious belongings away from this company!
1. They held our belongings hostage, lied to us and stated that our credit card had been declined, and then demanded cash payment in full. When offered a bank transfer of funds, they said that the 14-​day window for such a transfer would «take too long».
2. They called us after we were en route to our new home and claimed that the driver had a «family emergency» and that our things were still in Chicago with no pending arrival date. We sat in our empty apartment for a week while they «[waited] for a driver going to California».
3. They refused to refund the $ 595 that we had paid for delivery within a 3-​day window and gave us the runaround for weeks. They did not give us our refund until we threatened them in person with legal action.
4. Their office downtown is very shady, and looks like your grandma’s attic — complete with clutter and a small barking dog.
5. The guy who drove our truck looked like he had just gotten out of prison and his moving assistants were inexperienced locals that the driver had picked up down the street. They were very inefficient and did not know how to handle furniture or stack boxes.
6. They stole our old cell phones (boxes, accessories, and all)!
We unfortunately dealt with this company in August 2011 without having read any of their negative reviews first, as a friend had recommended them. Our lesson to you: Find a moving company with good reviews. Never trust Quality Move with your belongings and your money. They will try to scam you and will make an already stressful moving process an absolute nightmare.

Should had check Unilocal before cotract a move from Illnois to Cali. with all reviewer giving only one star, BBB showing all these complains. Something must not be right.
My experience is not as bad as others,
Yes, like all other reviewers, they probably outsource the job to the cheapest movers.
Movers on the chicago side suppose to be there at 10am, finally show up at 4pm.
They want to charge extra ($ 20) for wraping up table with glass top. Extra for mattress. They are also slow on working. Most of my stuff is already at the garage and still took a 3 hours to move.
The movers (different people) show up on California side is decent. The trailer that show up on time, communicated on their status multiple times prior to arrival. Move quickly and even suggest ways to maximize space here. Of course they deserve some decent tips here and the extra star.

Let me tell my story while its still painfully fresh.
I just moved from my parents house in the suburbs back to the city, to a pretty snotty building that charges you $ 75/​hour if you go over your reserved elevator time (which I reserved from 12 to 4, pretty reasonable amount of time to move a bedroom + one little table). I had informed the guy that set up my move of the circumstances. I told him that I really need them to be on time because otherwise the building will charge me and I will take it off their moving fee.
Their arrival time was between 11am & 1pm. Most moving companies I dealt with usually show up early, so when they didn’t show up by noon I called Kevin and asked him why they are not there. He said they will be there by 1 at the latest. Well they didn’t show up by 1pm (and nobody called to say they will be running late, me THE CUSTOMER had to take the initiative and keep hunting them down and communicating with them to see where they are) finally the driver called and said they would be there soon, but then at 1:30 I find out that they are still a half hour away. They finally arrived at 2:07 (meaning that we had an hour to load up the truk and and hour to get there, if we were lucky and traffic wasn’t bad, and would barely get there by 4pm, meaning we would be late and I would get charged elevator fees).
I proceeded to contact customer service to tell them that they will be eating each $ 75 fee that I incur, to which he told me «What do you want me to do about it?» as if it was up for negotiation!!!
I also need to point out that I haD EVERYTHING READY and waiting for them by the front door. All furniture disassembled and all the boxes packed (i was just moving one bedroom of stuff + a pub table w/​chairs). We made a judgement call not to wrap any of the furniture and they leaded the truck in exactly 20 minutes. If i had been waiting on them unpacked this move would have never happened yesterday!!!
Upon arrivial at the drop off location they were unprepaired on how to get to the loading dock and circled my building for 30 minutes looking for the loading dock (that is honestly the moving company’s responsibility to know ahead of time, on top of that the guy driving was completely unfamiliar with the area) and when they finally arrived guess what time it was, yes 4:15! Anyway, but the good graces of the guy at the loading dock office, I got offf without a fee if they finished unloading by 4:30, which luckily they did.
However, this is not how a moving company should deal with its customers. I had to actually, physiclally help them pick stuff up and unscrew and such because otherwise we would have been late, the one guy knew what he was doing, but the other one needed some direction, most of my furniture didn’t get wrapped and so in order to save time we took risk of damaging my sutff, all because THEY WERE SO LATE!
They could be a much better moving company if they just CAME ON TIME and were able to dedicate the time to give people a «quality» move. Everything that went wrong yeterday boils down to the fact that they were late and unprepaired.
Also, they only take cash and you sign a TON of paperwork releasing them from all sorts of liabilities, so if you find that something got damaged upon them leaving, good luck trying to get your money back. At least if they took credit card you could charge it back via dispute department, but this would be difficult. Stick with Midway Moving company, they are a tad more expensive, but they have moved me and my family many times and we never had any issues like this.

I, too, would give negative stars to this company! PLEASE HEED THE ADVICE HERE AND ON ALL OTHER REVIEW SITES ABOUT THIS COMPANY!
On the front end, the sales person (Danielle) was the best of the bunch that I got estimates from, and she told me they did moves to CA every week and had multiple trucks leaving each week on that route, so that’s why I chose this company over others. Believe me, their price was right in the middle of the over 10 estimates I received, so I did not choose based on price alone, and I especially did my diligence by printing off a list of questions from the moving association to ask a mover before signing a contract. The company did a great job when picking up my stuff, but then the nightmare started…
A week after the date I was told would most likely be the date of delivery, I was then told that my stuff was still in the warehouse. Over the course of the next month I had to place almost daily calls to check on the status of my delivery, during which time I either couldn’t get through to the company and had to leave voicemails, or was given the run-​around saying they didn’t know where the driver was and would have to call me back, but I would never get a call back.
During these weeks whenever I did talk to someone at the company, I was told that my stuff would be put on a truck that week and that I should expect delivery the following week, but then the next week would come, and I would then be told that no, my stuff was still not even on a truck, and that the person who told me it was didn’t know what they were talking about and shouldn’t have said that. It got to the point where the dispatcher refused to even talk to me, and I got into a screaming match with the manager of the company, Susan. When I asked to speak to the owner, I was told that the owners were just investors and didn’t have anything to do with running the company so I had to deal with her.
Then, finally, when I was promised delivery on the next Sat or Sun (they still couldn’t tell me an exact day), I called the driver on Friday to verify which day it would be, and he said Sunday. But then, later on Saturday he called to say he couldn’t make it on Sunday after all and that he would be here on Monday instead, which meant I had to take an emergency day off of work (at my new job mind you) to be here for delivery.
On delivery day, when the movers finally arrived, I was then told I would need to pay a couple hundred more dollars because the distance between where the truck could park and my place was more than the 75 feet, as allotted in my contract. THIS after having had my stuff for over a month, and I was told they were not going to unload until I paid the money, in cash. Talk about feeling like my stuff was being held hostage! Thank goodness I had the money available to even be able to pay.
When the movers were done unloading, I was asked to sign a form saying that everything was delivered and in good condition, but as anyone knows during a move, it gets unloaded so fast, and you have boxes all over the place, so inspecting every single item is nearly impossible. And the form I was being pressured into signing said that I personally inspected the truck to make sure none of my items were left on it, but when I asked to see the truck, the driver got upset and said there were too many other people’s things on the truck so he wouldn’t let me inspect. So, I wrote that on the paperwork, in the hope that if I did find anything missing, that I would be able to have recourse.
In the end, I had missing and damaged items, but of course, after filing my claim, I got about half of what I should have received in monetary compensation, and it took over 6 months to finally get my money. Even during the claim process, I had to call Quality Move 5 times over the course of 3 weeks to find out when they would be processing payment after they received the signed claim form from the claim company.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY if you want a smooth transition to your new home. I consider myself to be a diligent, level-​headed, and understanding person, but this company drove me to the brink of insanity. I can’t tell you enough times to STAY AWAY from using this company! I have filed multiple complaints with the Illinois Attorney General’s office and the Better Business Bureau, as well as, posting this review on as many review sites as possible in order to deter others from going through what I’ve gone through.

Beware. I have a long, painful review full of how this company deliberately lies, cheats, and manipulates it’s customers. I have had to hand the matter to an attorney.
We are a family with two small children. I work in a business/​legal filed and got everything in writing. «full service», «no hidden fees», etc.
They renigged on some free rentals (wardrobe boxes) 2 hours before they were supposed to arrive and refused to offer any consideration. Then they arrived 3 hours late, after 7 pm. My window was 2 – 4, and I had started calling by 4:30. Then they started telling me that all of the things on my original inventory and contract, like end tables, a sofa, etc would all be charged additional fees. My contract specified no hidden fees and full service, including unlimited blanket wrapping, which I reminded them. They said it didn’t include «shrink wrap», and that they would not move the items with out it. They wanted $ 27 per item for this! When it looked like a big disaster, I asked them to leave. Flat out said «you are fired, please go. Go!».
They called a manager, we negotiated that we would buy the wrap and bubble ramp etc at a local Home Depot ($ 150), and pay a flat $ 150 in additional fees.
The last time we moved we had 30 more boxes and 2 rooms more furniture. We hired 3 guys who moved it out of one place and into another in 6.5 hours. This crew of 5 took 5 hours to just move us out. And that was with my husband’s help!
I had been assured we would have an inventory and total bill handed to us before they left. They left nothing when they departed after midnight. That was Saturday.
I called Monday for a total. No return call.
Tuesday, it took call after call to get the total. I know we had a few extra items, and I expected, based on the contract, $ 300 more. No way — they were now charging over $ 3500 instead of $ 2200.
I asked for a call on Thursday since they assured me our truck wpuld arrive Friday — a term I required to agree to the contract to begin with.
Friday, noon, I called. Once again I spoke to Eddie, sweet, young, helpless and utterly clueless customer service rep. Hen proudly announced our truck was loaded and would leave Chicago tomorrow. He seemed to struggle with my being upset that the truck was supposed to be delivering on Friday, not just leaving Chicago a day later!
Traveling and moving with two small children is hard. Having your belongings held captive, being absolutely taken for a ride and put through enormous, unneeded stress by a moving comp ah is utterly painful. I feel completely taken for a ride.
No end in sight, just had to hand it all to a lawyer. Someone must teach these guys they cant repeatedly and deliberately deceive their customers. If you care to join the suit or follow up, contact me at

I looked for a negative star rating; however, I was unfortunately forced to give them one star.
My boyfriend had a reservation scheduled and confirmed via phone and e-​mail for 11am-​noon. At 1:30pm, my boyfriend decided to call to inquire about the delay only to find that, of course, the crew was running behind.
Shouldn’t he have received a call to inform us of this well before his reservation had come and gone?
The crew finally arrived a little after 3pm, which was not okay because the management office at the new building only allows the freight elevator to be used until 5pm sharp. The foreman, Alex agreed to work hard to make it happen.
At this point, he’s stressed! I literally start moving and helping with taping items to help them move faster.
There were some additional unexpected charges to shrink wrap his armoire and another table. Although this is a standard industry charge, it’s only necessary for those items that might get dirty or torn during the move such as couches, chairs and mattresses. After calling to complain, Tabatha, in customer service ensured him that she would look into this and call back. She didn’t. They tried to scam him.
An attempt was made to escalate to John, who has the title of Supervisor. After explaining the impact to the day and work schedule for the four hour delay, he offered to «work with him» on the additional charges but did not tell him what that meant.
At around 4:50 pm the crew was JUST finishing loading the items from the old apartment. Can you say slow??? Keep in mind, there was no couch, love seat, coffee table, etc. It was a real simple bed room furniture, an armoire, two chairs, a desk and about 10 boxes move. After begging the management company, they agreed to allow him to use the freight elevator until 5:30pm with a $ 50 charge. I called John and Tabatha to see if they would cover the fee that was being assessed, they assumed that I was lying and told me all about how the property management company where they live handles move ins.
After a 3-​way call with Tabatha and the management company at the new place, Tabatha agreed to call back to discuss the fee that he was charged. Keep in mind that this all occuring during his move and after he was forced to sign a bunch of papers waiving rights for misc items. No one called back; however, John called the crew onsite to tell them to discount the $ 50, BUT charge for ALL of the shrink wrapping.
Plus! One of his dining room chairs broke during the move.
UGH!!! This place has no concept of customer service. I DO NOT recommend them.

Don’t be deceived by the one star. I would put negative stars if I could.
June 7^th (Tuesday): original scheduled date of the move
I was told that they would arrive between 1 – 3 pm. 3pm rolled by with nary a call from them. I waited patiently. After all, they had said they could be late. Things come up, right? I called the main office a few times and they assured me that the driver would give me a call.
Finally, at 6pm, the driver called to tell me that they wouldn’t be coming today. At all. They’ll come tomorrow afternoon. But who has a flight tomorrow afternoon? This girl.
I call and talk to the supervisor Rachel. She assures me that the movers will leave Chicago for Rockford super early– 7am!
June 8^th (Wednesday): actual moving date
Movers finally call at 10am to tell me they’re just fifty miles away. Wonderful, they were supposed to already be here.
They finally arrive just a mere 22 hours after they were supposed to arrive. My things are already packed and boxed but they want me to sign a bunch of forms first. And agree to a bunch of things that jack up the previous estimate of $ 1000. They literally will not start packing until I agree to sign these forms. Since I’m already pretty certain to miss my flight, I agree to sign the papers. When I am asked to pay, they inform me that their credit card machine broke (if it ever existed at all) and I must pay by cash. When I balk at this, they start unloading my things from the truck in a threatening fashion.
June 24^th:
Actually received a call from movers! Apparently they think I owe them money even though I paid in cash already. Poor documentation.
Intermission: MULTIPLE calls from me to the movers. NO information on when I shall actually be receiving the things. I had everything including dates and times documented but I exceeded the maximum number of characters allotted for a Unilocal review.
July 22^nd:
7:21 PM (5:21 PM CST): The driver finally calls me and says he will arrive tomorrow and will I be home to receive them? I am too scared to say no at this point for fear that I will actually never get my things. I say yes. PS I have to pay $ 800 more than the original quoted price because they «adjusted» something-​something. And it has to be in cash. Of course.
July 23^rd:
1:06 PM: My things are not here. Why am I not surprised. I call and they say they are twenty minutes away.
1:44 PM: They finally arrive. Wow, that twenty minutes was so long it seemed more like forty minutes! They brought a big ass truck with them. Seriously, the thing is huge. They can’t find any place to park it. They have to park it down the street and now it is considered «long-​haul,» which just translates to $ 250 more out of my pocket. They refuse to even take my things out of the truck until they have my payment in their hand. They move my things into my apartment. I count the boxes and go through them. Obviously one lamp is missing. They also have two box springs and cannot tell which one is mine. I could be sleeping on a stranger’s box spring right now. I hate them.
In short, it took 32 days for my things to arrive. And I mean 32 BUSINESS days (I even discounted July 4^th); their 21 business day policy is b-​freaking-​s. I went with this company because I thought it would be cheaper but the price was definitely jacked up from the original estimate of $ 1000 to about $ 1500. The people who work there are terrible people — seriously, you may not believe me but you really need to realize that there are people out there who have no sense of common decency or kindness or anything positive at all really. And most of them work for «Quality» Move. I felt abused, humiliated, swindled and ultimately like I had no choice but to do what they wanted me to do all the time because they were holding all my things hostage. Worst experience of my life.

If only 0 stars were available. No move is painfree but these guys gave my other-​wise patient husband a lot of stress. We used them for a move from Chicago/​Ann Arbor to Austin TX
First, they showed up over 4 hrs late and that was the last day had the lease on the apartment so we had to move out. They said noon but arrived at 5 — proceeded to pack for 4 more hours and we cleaned up until 11 pm. The packing skills were HORRENDOUS!!! they packed our clothes along with the trash can (ewwww) and basically just dumped everything higglypidgely together in these large cartons. Anyway, the packer dude was friendly and funny. But his packing skills were a shade better than the other guy who was just dumpng my wine glasses in a box.
They promised us the moon — we had 2 pick ups and they promised us pick up from Chi on day 1 and Ann Arbor next day. Ann Arbor pick up didnt happen until 4 weeks later. They also were going to move my car from Ann Arbor but because we had moved by then to Austin, a friend would hand over the keys. Not to mention paying extra storage rent in Ann Arbor, the guy who picked up the car was exceedingly rude to my friend and showed up 24 hrs late. I was so embarrassed that my friend was insulted on my account not to mention the inconvenience of shipping her the keys etc.
The Ann Arbor stuff finally arrived 45 days later. My lamps were broken and picture frames cracked and some dear china broken & chipped. Of course i find out all this after i open the boxes but the delivery guy insisted on my signature that everything was ok as soon as he put the boxes down on the floor –no not even.
There were some decent people — one is Susan she is just a nice person stuck working for a crappy company — and the 2 East European guys who delivered (one of them had a Law degree from his country!).
DO NOT DEAL WITH JOHN or GEORGE — they are first class scamsters.

Ditto to 0 stars. BEWARE of Quality Move, really. My drama with them started when the movers arrived, I was moving from Chicago to NYC. I had been told over the phone that it was one flat price, no added fees for materials, labor, nada. Well that was a straight out lie, my move ended up being $ 400 MORE than what I was quoted and I had no choice because I was not told this until everything was packed.
I was told it would take about 2 weeks for everything to be delivered and I informed them I would be out of the country until a certain date. Lo and behold while I was abroad I got multiple calls/​voicemails saying that they were in New Jersey and ready to deliver and then yelled at ME for not being in the area and available.
When the movers finally showed up to my apartment it was two guys. One of whom needed to «watch the truck» which they parked a block away (completely unnecessary). The other «mover» was in white tight slacks, white leather shoes and a tight blue shirt, really practical? Basically I ended up moving everything with him (and I am a small girl). After this I got on the phone with the office and argued my way into a $ 100 refund, which of course, never arrived.
This was one year ago in 2009 and the reason I am writing this review now is because I was unable to unpack until now (everything was in storage to this point) and of course a very valuable item is broken.
I credit Quality Move with giving me grey hairs at the young age of 23. DO NOT EVER USE THEM, they should be ashamed of the business they run.

We looked around quite a bit before choosing Quality Move, and if we need to do it again, I’m either going to do it myself, or choose a bigger company.
We were verbally assured our stuff would «leave in about 5 days, a week at the latest» on Wednesday the 30^th. It would not have been an issue if they had informed us that it would be two to three weeks, but they assured us, several times over the phone, that it would leave after a week, max.
In addition, we attempted to change our moving date (we’d heard that the 30^th of June is the worst day to schedule it on because it’s one of the busiest days of the year — we thought we’d help them, and in turn, help ourselves). So we called over a weeks before, thinking they knew their schedule. We were told that it could be done three or four nights before, and we’d get a call. The day we finally scheduled on we were told it’d be the next day in the morning, but they could do it. The next morning we were told it could be done that evening. That evening they did not come, but assured us that our original 6am time (the first one of the day, or so they told us — are we sensing a pattern yet?) on the 30^th was firm.
The day before they did not remove the deposit as promised, and we had to scramble to add that to the quoted amount — it shouldn’t be a big deal, but an extra few hundred dollars, when combined with all the other ancillary costs of moving, is quite a bit when you already think it’s going to be and have it set up to be paid a certain way.
At 1pm they showed up, and packed up the truck. We got on a flight the next day, believing our stuff was following us shortly. After not hearing from them (as they assured us they’d call 24 hours before they were coming, we knew they weren’t planning on keeping their one week verbal agreement), we called only to be stonewalled by a receptionist who reminded us that in the written contract they have over three weeks to deliver the items.
Once here, The movers themselves were great, but the guy driving the truck was overly pushy and aggressive. I was attempting to do the inventory, and he kept going on trying to get me to sign everything right away, without reading any of it, and when I thought I was missing a box (that has not yet showed up, and we’ve at least opened everything we’ve received). He kept talking about how if I didn’t trust him she shouldn’t be there and at that point I was so tired I didn’t feel like pointing out that trust — especially between strangers and a company that has not been very upfront with me — has to be earned. While I did push back on a few things, I let him rush me, and I should not have, they made off with two of our boxes that we’re sure we’re never going to see again.
In addition, the driver (phonetically HA-​vee (Javie?)) stated that they didn’t pay attention to anything we marked as ‘fragile’ and because of this there was a box that was utterly destroyed, several marked and stamped and stickered (with Quality’s own stickers) as Fragile that were SMASHED because they were stacked under very heavy things.
«We have 13 families stuff in the truck, we can’t pay attention to what everyone marks.» You might consider what your own company marks, though. So I’m going to file a few claims with them, and hopefully Quality backs up their own insurance.
Quality Move knows how to do the job, they talk the talk, they are just choosing not to follow through — not even make an effort to (it would have nice to have been called by them when breaking a verbal agreement — at least try to show they actually cared).
If I have to move again, I’ll be using Two Men And A Truck, or something else Unilocal might recommend.
