The best gyros in Chicago hands-down. If you’ve only had the Kronos or other frozen corporate stuff 99% of gyros places in Chicago sell, you don’t know what you have been missing. The original place on Halsted was a Chicago institution, I hope the run on Lincoln Ave is equally long and successful. Owner is a great guy, genuine, and takes pride in the quality of his food. The high rating isn’t comparing it to fine dining but to other places who call themselves gyros spots.

Haven’t been here in a while and was craving for their Homemade Gyros. Im Glad Ibcame back. The gyros was Fresh and juicy, pita was Nice and toasty. I got two sides with a Gyro plate: grilled veggies, and Greek potatoes. So Good ! I like also that there’s a bar as well. Cant beat a Freshly made gyro and a cold beer on a Hot Chicago Summer ill definatly be back for the Saganaki and Souvlaki!

I’ve had GOTS many times. It’s always good. Tonight I got take away GOTS and I was inspired to write a Unilocal review. Gyros are great. Chicken is great. That’s not why I wrote this review. I wrote it because the spicy feta dip that comes with the dip trio is the truth. Get the dip trio with extra pita. Thank me in the morning. Rinse. Repeat.

Very tasty Gyro: unlike any I have had: excellent texture and quality. The atmosphere and servers were excellent. The Greek salad was also very good. My meal took a little longer than I expected.

Holy crap. Just when you thought a gyros could not get any better… these guys kick up old school Greek gyros to a new level. Totally home made. Totally awesome and such great owners to boot. They have all the greek classics. Do yourself a favor and dive into a giant gyros. Sort of hurt my productivity this afternoon but sooo worth it

Gyros on the Spit is really fantastic. The Avgolemeno soup was awesome. Delicious Gyro meat and everyone who works there(I believe they’re all related in some way) is super nice. If I lived closer it would definitely be a regular spot for me. Check it out.

Still best gyros on the Northside. In addition, really cute and friendly bartenders. Rock on, Dino. For all you guys in the neighborhood– you better enjoy the patio when turns. We have too short a summer! Plus — they have parking! In Chicago! How cool is that!

NOTE: This review is solely based on their take out A solid three stars, Gyros on the spit is one of the few Greek restaurants outside of Greek town known for it’s best tasting gyros in Chicago. If you like your gyro meat slightly charred and savory, you may want to pay a visit. APP-E-TEASERS Saganaki had a nice amber colored sear to it and came with a slice of lemon. The saganaki is served with a small loaf of sliced crusty bread. When eaten together, this zestful blend of saganaki paired with soft crusty bread was the perfect Greek accompaniment to your main dish. MAINS I ordered the Macko burger which consists of a juicy quarter pound patty topped with a generous portion of flavorfully seared gyro meat, cheddar, crisp lettuce and tomato; all served on a soft pretzel bun to sop up the meat juices. The burger was large enough that I had to split this over the course of two days. Surprisingly, the burger held up well a day after being in the fridge. Reheating it the next day tasted just as good as when I first got it. Eating this can be slightly messy but thankfully they provided enough napkins to handle this! I was hoping they would have tzatziki sauce in the burger but unfortunately they don’t provide it in the sandwich. I had to ask to have it as a side condiment. The condiment costs extra. Ick… The burger comes with a choice of one side. You can choose from fries, Dino’s famous potatoes, rice or a side salad. I opted for Dino’s potatoes. Although the roasted potatoes were seasoned well, they arrived soggy upon delivery. Unsure if it was caused by the hot food sweating in the tin container during transport but that’s my best guess. Looking back, if I had dined in, I think the overall quality could have improved due to the food being fresher. DELIVERYEXPERIENCEANDCOST Unfortunately the delivery and cost is what brought this review down a few stars. I called for delivery and had to wait over an hour for my meal. In addition to waiting this long, there is a delivery surcharge of $ 4.00 that brought my final total well over $ 20.00. I ordered this food just for myself so I was justifiably in sticker shock. On the whole, the food tastes good but if you choose to eat here, expect to pay roughly $ 20+ for lunch with delivery; not including your drinks. It will cost you more if you plan to dine in.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I ordered their chicken dinner which has to be one of the best half chicken meals I’ve ever had. The best part was their personal touch to this restaurant! Dino and his staff make you feel like you’re in their own house. I’m bringing all my friends and family here because it’s not often you find restaurants like this!

Absolutely great classic Greek spot. We were greeted by a hot super friendly female server with an infectious smile. We loved almost every dish. I love the huge ball of fire from our saginaki! The fried zucchini was mushy and weird however the accompanying tzatziki may be the best I’ve ever had. I still ate it all, not bad. Perfect chicken kebab sandwich and entrée! Dino’s potatoes are delicious! Dino the Chef and son of the original owner years ago came and chatted with us and did a shot of uzo with us. I’m already craving this place. I’m not a fan of lamb but everyone says there gyros are the best. My only other complaint is the atmosphere, extremely bright and loud, no soft surfaces to absorb sound. Not enough to keep us away.

Best gyros in CHICAGO! They make their meat on premise(only a handful of restaurants serving gyros do this in Chicago. Everyone else’s meat arrives frozen off a truck). Their tzatziki sauce is made using their own, you guessed it, homemade Greek yogurt. If you want a delicious, fresh tasting gyro in a nice, comfortable restaurant — You will not regret your visit here!

We’ve eaten here a lot and love the place. Tonight, I tried to call to place a to-go order. «The mailbox belonging to Gyros on the Spit is full. Please hang up.» Guys, that’s NOT how to handle callers! I like you enough that I’m going to drive over an place my order in person, but I’m not happy about this.

Went on a Saturday– Great service! Love the family owned restaurant feel. Our server Jessie was so sweet and such a great waitress! Dino even took us back to the kitchen to show us how he made the spits! Highly recommend the gyros and flaming cheese! And the baklava cheesecake. Nom nom nom! Can’t wait to come back!

My wife and I were in the area and were looking for a place to catch something to eat. We used a phone app and this place was near and based on the menu and reviews we decided to visit. There were only a few customers present that evening but were greeted by the server/waitress with enthusiasm… Nice vibes and laid back atmosphere, they had the Hawks game on, so were cool! We started with the Saganaki and Mini Roasted Peppers which were BOF(yes B.O.F.) EXCELLENT… You have to try them… Of course we both had the gyros. The lamb was good and nicely flavored. Overall the place had GREAT service and food; we BOF will definitely go back…

I was incredibly disappointed with this delivery. I posted a picture of the sad order of soggy fries and grocery store mixed frozen veggies that I ordered. There was probably half as much meat as any other gyro I’ve ordered in this city… Same goes for the fries(see photo).

The good: The saganaki and baklava cheesecake were incredible. So that book ended our meal nicely. Really kind staff chatted with us for a bit. The bad: Saw this in Chicago magazine«Best Cheap Eats» edition for their gyro(I try and have a gyro at every opportunity I can), and this one was alright. It places somewhere just above the middle of the 35+ gyros I’ve had.

Finally found them, been looking for them since they closed the Broadway location. The only handmade Gyros in Chicago. The best Gyros hands down. I am so happy the kids decided to open up shop and share the legacy. Lifetime customer.

Gyros & souvlaki are pretty bangin’. If ordering carry-out, it travels well. I was traveling from the area to Edgewater. We were pleasantly surprised to find the food still fresh. Since I was able to pickup the order as it emerged from the kitchen. In the past so many months I keep hearing mutterings from Greeks that this is a great spot for casual Greek food. The owners are well known in the Greek community for dishing out great Greek fare. If word of mouth means anything, maybe you’ll give them a try.

My sister and I were looking for a spot to grab a quick bite to eat around the area and we stumbled upon Gyros on the Spit. The exterior of the restaurant resembles a little shack, nothing to rave about, but the interior looked like a whole new restaurant. It was modern and bright, but still had a cozy and home-like vibe. We wanted to try everything, but we both knew we don’t have the stomachs to consume that much food. We ended up sharing the red pepper hummus(served with pita bread, carrots, and cucumbers) and a homemade gyro plate(served with pita bread, onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce on the side) with fries and lemon & rice soup. The hummus was unlike any hummus I have ever eaten before, the texture was a little bit thicker and not as smooth but the flavor was spot on. The warm pita and the refreshing vegetables were both a good compliment for the hummus. The gyro plate was absolutely delicious. The gyros were cooked perfectly without it being overwhelmingly soaked in grease. The soup was also good by having the perfect balance of acidity, creaminess, and rice. Overall, the food here is delicious and fairly priced. The portions here are huge which is great for sharing, unless you’re a huge eater. The service was also phenomenal. Our waitress seemed to be the only person working at the time, but we never once felt like we were being ignored. She was attentive and very informative about the entrees. I’m looking forward to try other items on the menu or even more so their gyros.
