Gyros are a past time of mines. Over the years I have visited many late night gyro spots all over the city. Some are better then others but, when it comes down to it they are all pretty much the same. You get a pita with some meat, onions, tomatoes, and taziki sauce, thats about with. My buddy told me this is his favorite gyro spot in the city. And just after one visit, its deff in my top 3. What makes this spot unique is the ability to customize your gyro. Being able to choose toppings, meat, and sauces, makes this spot unlike any other gyro spot I have been too. Will deff be coming back!

Been here a couple times, and their gyro are always on point. I tried it with some bleu cheese and it was the best decision ever.

Decent Greek food. Service was ok, and the place is filled with fun signs. We got the lamb gyros and Greek fries. It was one of the better gyros we’ve had and the fries had a lot of feta on them. We’d stop in again if we’re in the area.

I was a little nervous ordering from Gyro-Mena since it was 30 minutes before their closing time. We all know that doing those times one might receive the leftovers from the day. Well, not with Gyro-Mena. My gyro was juicy and delicious. I was also especially pleased that they include the types of meats used in their description as I do not eat pork. I really appreciated that. By the way, the gyros are HUGE. I had leftovers for the next day. This has become my go to when I have a gyro craving.

Yummy!!! Just tried gyro-mena for the first time. The spanakopita and rice pilaf was delicious. We had it delivered and it wasn’t mushy, it was still crispy! My husband said his American gyro was perfect and really liked adding the cucumbers. The Greek fries were very good and not soggy. Great service too. Will definitely order from here again soon!

OMG, their gyro’s are soooooo good! Affordable, and you get a greek lesson while you’re waiting for your amazing food! SWEET! Seriously though, so tender with the lamb, they have a huge variety of options to choose from, the place is open until midnight, and I felt super bad as I was starving as they were cleaning the floors and finishing up. I thought they were closed as I didn’t want to be that jerk that wonders in at 11:40pm; as a person in restaurants myself it’s a rule, but they were super accommodating and gave me one hell of a gyro with a smile and still offered me a beverage. You guys are amazing; and anyone who thinks different sucks :)

This is really convenient place for me to stop by after work! The food is good) I love beef and lamb gyros. So today, when I got inside the guy was sweeping floors. Than he start serving me and even didn’t wash his hands or even didn’t put the gloves on. And the fries were over fried, burned..

When you haven’t had a French dip in awhile… Meat-tender, juicy melt-in-your-mouth Bread– fresh, easy to tear apart. All set off with the deliciously salty and savory dip paired with grilled onions and peppers. I will most definitely come again next time I’m in town

I’ve tried the chicken, lamb, and beef gyro meat, and they are all fantastic. The chicken is actually my favorite out of the three! I love that you can completely customize your gyro and salad. They also have a lot of different options to choose from when customizing your meal– including a variety of meats, veggies, olives, and sauces. Overall, everything was 100% flavorful, tasty, and you get a TON of food for your money.

I’ve ordered takeout from here three times since moving in the last month and everything I’ve gotten has been fantastic let alone really quick to my door. I would highly recommend the spanakopita, the Athenian Gyro, and the Chocolate Thunder. All are amazing and and delivery has been crazy fast. My new take-out-night staple. Love this spot!

Amongst the best I’ve ever had! We came here for lunch, we had gyro in pita and a plate of rice and chicken gyro. Run don’t walk, I’ll be back!

We used to like this restaurant. But not any more. Tonight we ordered gyro sandwich and gyro plate the gyro plate has only few pieces of gyros which too little to fit in sandwich. Also the big disgusting thing that tomatoes in the plate are rotten. Good that we don’t eat tomatoes. Fries also burned all brown and not eatable. Something change in this place it used to be our favorite but not anymore. This is the last time we will order from gyro mena. The star is only because need to put one. So sad

Greek Potatoes and Chicken are solid. The lemon soup comes scalding hot and is basically inedible with no chicken inside. I have gotten the same thing all 3 times with the same result! Step up the soup game and I’ll be back for sure

I’m not sure what has happened to this place. I have come regularly for the past three years but the last two times I have been here, it has not been good. Last time, they were out of some food items. This time, no one knew what was going on. My gyro roll was over cooked, my saganaki was so well done, my knife wouldn’t go through it. Heck, I couldn’t even get water as that spout was broken. I will give this place one more try as I hope this isn’t the ultimate decline for this restaurant, but it isn’t looking good!

Food is great which is why I’m giving two stars. Customer service is terrible which is why in deducting 3. We called one night about half an hour before closing time to order for pickup. We live literally 5 minutes away. They told us on the phone that they couldn’t take our order because they«closed in five minutes(11:35). I checked the hours and they close at 12. We ended up walking there to just order about 20 minutes before the store closed. The Hispanic lady pointed at us and made a comment, I heard her say«that’s whoever called» and proceeded to walk away like she never said anything. All of the employees were very rude. They literally did not need to cook or prepare anything. We ordered Greek potatoes which were sitting in a tray so all they had to do was scoop our potatoes into a Togo box. The whole time they were disrespectful to us and the past times I’ve been there that same lady has been very disrespectful to me as well. I love the food but the customer service is terrible and does not deserve my time or money. They also didn’t put any seasonings that they usually put on my food(olive oil, other seasonings and cheese)

Still great even after a 3 month break. If you low carb like me, you can get your gyro in a bowl with the pita grilled on the side. Low carber heaven. Love the people who work there. The meat is always grilled perfectly. I’ve never had dry meat from here. Love the multigrain pita option. Wish there was an Edgewater location. Thanks for being consistently awesome to me!

Disappointing is the best way to describe this place. The meat was so-so but the pita was bland and dry. The potatoes were bland and undercooked. I gave them two tries, both because the place nearby(sadly no longer on belmont) was closed later at night. Both times I regretted spending the money.

I am a Greek food enthusiast and for a fast serve spot, I thought this place was terrific! My husband and I ordered the saganaki, egg and lemon soup, gyro platter, and Grecian salad. They accommodated my request for grilled chicken versus the gyros, which was seasoned to perfection. The soup and saganaki were both delicious, though I did heat up the saganaki in the oven because I like it hot. My husband’s gyros was definitely homemade and not manufactured Kronos — and a generous portion to boot. The complimentary Ioannian flatbread was an added treat, so don’t listen to the review from the person who clearly doesn’t know a thing about ethnic cuisine. We will definitely be ordering from here again. It’s nice to have a different flavor profile to order instead of the standard Chinese and Mexican.

It’s hard for me to rate this place because I’m not very familiar with Greek food. However, I was more than satisfied with my meal and the service was great. If I really had to search for something to complain about, it would be that there aren’t any vegan option for the falafel sauces. BUT that’s really searching for a complaint.

Super disappointed. Have had a lot of gyros and this ranks at bottom. Dry, boring and super chintzy with the meat. A lot of Chicago gyros places you can get two meals out of one order. This was ¼ of a typical order. And limpy fries. Soggy and dull.

No, please look at the picture and zoom in. Do not make excuses. This is not something any kitchen should serve. You know this as well as I do. Maybe instead of responding to me, you should be contacting your kitchen from last night that allowed this to go out. I have had the Greek flat bread from your restaurant previously and it was some what enjoyable. I have had Greek flat bread many times and your excuse is pathetic.

Easily one of the best Greek restaurants in the city. I eat here every chance I get. The Gyro meat is tender and perfectly spiced. The sauces are all homemade and taste like it. The bread and veggies are always fresh and the staff is friendly. I HIGHLY recommend this place.

I wasn’t impressed… I saw and read all the great reviews of this place and got really excited. I was coming to Chicago for a business trip and knew they had a pretty nice Greek community so I had fingers crossed that they would have authentic pork giros like they do in Greece. To my surprise, they did! Authentic pork cooked on the spiti and topped with fries just like they do in Greece. They even had chicken on the spiti too! They clearly knew how authentic giros were made. When I got to the store though, it was completely empty. The Greek woman(I’m assuming the mother matriarch of the store) was handling the Philly subs next door and the Greek restaurant. She was speaking in Greek to another woman about an African American kid who came in a month ago and stole another customer’s phone right off the table! I don’t think they realized I speak and understand Greek… But anyway, it got weird when Chef A took my order. Another person came in(dish boy) to work and looked like he was applying for the job! So Chef A left to train him in the kitchen and another guy walks in out of nowhere and takes over! So this Chef B(who just got to work) started slicing the meat off the spiti and threw the pork that has been cooking for what looked like days(it was all burnt up from being overcooked) onto the grill… We were both standing there puzzled at the weird interaction with Chef A, the newly hired dish boy, Chef B(who scratched himself when he thought no one was looking…) and then the mother matriarch in the kitchen preparing souvlaki! It was quite a scene! So while he is cooking the life out of the already burnt pork and chicken, he strikes another conversation with another worker who just walks in! It was a Wednesday afternoon at 3pm! It was ridiculous. Here we are, standing for about 15 minutes in line waiting for Chef B to take the meat off the grill… And he’s just yapping away at the worker who just walks in and the newly hired dish boy. WHAT A DISORGANIZEDPLACE. It was dead empty and the chef clearly did not know how to make giros. The pork was already overcooked to begin with from the spiti, and he over killed it when grilling it for 5 minutes on the flat top(no it wasn’t Malakas Mike, I’m sure he wouldn’t have been oblivious to the customers waiting!). Everything else tasted great, it was a bummer to see the meat so dry and overcooked. It was also disappointing to see they don’t make their own tzatziki! There was a huge box in front of us with already portioned tzatziki containers in the actual shipped box from a warehouse in Chicago! I liked the authentic Greek family feel; from the mother matriarch leading the store to the beautiful decorations. However the food was disappointing and the employees were busy yapping away.

Yay! I’m a fan– of the gyros, and that is why I’m giving it four stars. If I rated their loukomades, if would be only one star and it would say– eek! Methinks not!!! I went there because I was craving two things– a gyro and loukomades. They gyro was very good and so were the potatoes but it’s a different story with the loukomades. On the outside, the loukomades looked perfect but when I took a bite into it, it was raw!!! Raw dough!!! Unfortunately, it was a take out order and I was already home when I sunk my teeth into, so I didn’t go back to show them. I was so disappointed… The thing about loukomades is that you need to have the perfect temperature of the oil. If the oil is too hot, it will fry the outside of the dough and they will look ready but the inside will remain raw and that was the case with mine. Too bad because I really love a good loukomades!

I saw a TV segment that featured Gyro-Mena, and whoa the gyros sandwich is served«Greek Style» as it had some fries within the sandwich! I have been to a few countries where tossing in a few fries within a falafel sandwich or meat-filled pita sandwich is the norm, but such a thing is virtually unheard of in the States. I went to the location on Belmont a bit east of the Belmont Red Line station. The seating can be a little tight, and Gyro-Mena seems to have a partnership with Philly’s Best next door. The tongue-in-cheek signs on the walls can draw a chuckle if you are eating there. There are quite a few toppings and sauces that you can ask for atop your gyros. I asked for tomato, cucumber, grilled onions, two kinds of cheese, olives, and bacon. By far the weakest link was the scraps of cold bacon, hard and brittle and flavorless. The pita round was also bland, while the lamb and beef meat was good if not great(you can have it served as a wrap or salad if you do not go with the pita). My sandwich was more about quantity than quality, as the sandwich was loaded with so many toppings that it was too hefty to eat with my hands until it was down to the last few bites.

Overall: Great grab-and-go option when it comes to Gyros. Satisfy your lunch or drunk Greek craving needs at Gyro-Mena. The good: Great tasting gyro meat and a filling pita. Huge portions when it comes to a sandwich, and the price is nothing to shake a stick at. Pretty good. Maybe it was the drunk factor talking, but i left happy and full with still cash in the wallet. Open late. The bad: Way too many raw onions for my liking. I could still taste them the next day. Obviously not very fancy, but you should know that just from walking by. No sides included with the sandwich(but it’s still huge). Atmosphere is pretty bland. Atmosphere: 7⁄10 Service: 8⁄10 Food: 8⁄10

Gyro Me’na.in greek translates to My Gyros. And, It’s a pretty cool concept, you pick the type of meat you want American(Lamb and Beef) or Authentic Athenian Style(Chicken, Pork or Veggies) I like my gyros pretty plain and simple, so I got the American Version with tomatoes and greek tzatziki sauce, and granted it was a good gyros. Was it the best I ever had? No. but it came fairly close. So, there are 4 steps to this process, pick your meat, what you would like to have your meat wrapped in, pita/multi grain pita, pick your toppings, and you could really get creative here, there are some great looking/sounding toppings. Last but not least, pick your sauce, of which there are about 8 different varieties. So, for the most part you are building your own gyros creation, which is kind of a cool/different option. The interior of this restaurant is quite small, there are a few tables and my guess is Gyro Me’na is doing a good take out business… Also, they are very quick/fast when getting your food out to you, they seem to have a system that works for them. So, WGN says Gyro Me’na has the Best Gyro, and honestly, I know for a fact that I have had better. but only slightly. And Unilocalers, check in and get 10% off! Good Deal! So, Gyro Me’na is definitely worth of a solid 4 star rating. The quality was good and the price was right. That’s good enough for me…
