This particular Harold’s is hit or miss. Sometimes they are good, and other times they are awful. I like the Harold’s on 119th or 87th better.

I don’t consume fried chicken often as I’m quite fond of my arteries, but when I get a craving, I usually make a trip to Harold’s. This location has sticky tables and tends to run out of sides so you might get a «We out», but they play some sweet reggae tunes while you’re waiting… and you WILL wait.(I suggest phoning your order in ahead of time.) Don’t be surprised if you’re asked to purchase raw, packaged steaks or perhaps a bootleg dvd or two from a variety of characters wandering in and out… lol Excellent sauce, fries are perfect and their slaw is tangy and sweet. Wings-to-go…served up fryer-fresh from behind bullet-proof glass. What’s not to love? I’ve catered wings(with hot and mild sauce) from this location and they are always a hit. You have to pick up your catering order, but they don’t require more than a day or two notice. They go heavy on the sauce, so if that’s not your thing they offer it on the side as well. ***This location has either moved or is under renovation as of March 2012****

Hot sauce/Mild sauce… I don’t know what that ish is good. Had to try this place when visiting Chicago and it was one of the most interesting stops I made. The chicken is on point — delicious. But on top of that were the different people that I cross there. Some dude tried to sell me a camera with no battery that clearly was stolen. And then another person invited me out to a Caribbean party around the way. It made me feel like I was on a episode of Martin. I was just waiting to cross one of those Chicago pimps. But when it comes to the food — this place does the job and pretty cheaply.

Harold’s Chicken is amazing. I recommend calling first cause it takes about 30 minutes to cook especially when its busy. Try the chicken with hot sauce. Try the fries with the hot sauce. Try everything with the hot sauce!

Slightly unusual set up from a lot of the other Harold’s I’ve seen, in that it has a fairly large dining area with tables and chairs. And you’ll need the seat because the wait will be pretty long, even if you’re the only one in there. The fried chicken is decent and if you love the sauce(I don’t) you’ll be thrilled to find out that they drench the chicken and fries in it. They have a larger menu than others, with lots of different sides and some exciting sounding offerings, but they may or not have many of them. But they can usually be counted to have banana pudding in stock though, which, depending on my mood, might be way more important than any chicken. There’s a really cool little indie record store right next door, if you don’t want to wait for your food in the restaurant.

Good for a late night craving of bbq fries and bootleg dvd of your choice.
