Have done dine in as well as carry out here. Always had a good experience. Food was always fresh, no complaints whatsoever. You’ll find police officers from the neighboring area dining here regularly, which I would consider a big compliment to the restaurant. Would recommend!

We have been ordering takeout from here for over 10 years. Love their egg rolls, beef fried rice, mongolian beef, even their egg drop soup! No complaints at all

Two word. Delicious and Homemade.(And does not count) Everything was amazing. I cannot think of a Chinese restaurant that I like better than this place and this was my first time. From the friendly staff, homemade sauces(like all the sauces — soy sauce, hot sauce, and sweet and sour sauce all homemade!!!) and owner to all the flavorful dishes, if you want Chinese food made with love, go here. We decided to stop here for an early dinner and the staff promptly greeted us and showed us to a table. After a quick look at the menu and the owner came by and shook our hand which I loved! We asked what are some good dishes and settled on the following: Pan Fried Pot Stickers — Best Pot Sticker in Chicago! Period, reminded me of my travels to Asia. Crab Rangoon — finally someone knows how to control the cream cheese and leave the top open to avoid too much moisture Chicken Sizzling Rice Soup — Amazing showmanship as they brought it out the rice was crackling and then slid artfully into the soup for ultimate crackling. So flavorful and perfect for a cold day. Sesame Chicken — again one of the best I ever had Chinese Broccoli– a must at a Chinese restaurant and this one did not disappoint And the star of the dinner, The Lobster in Caramelized Onion Sauce(secret menu, ask for it and order it!). Never had Lobster prepared this way and my wife who does not like Lobster, loved this dish. All in all this place rocks!

I always order delivery off Unilocal. This Chinese restaurant requires a minimum of only $ 10(other places req $ 20 or $ 25!). I have ordered here twice. Delivery is always prompt(always about 15 mins earlier than the given eta). Food is good for a good price and delivery staff is always nice. Will order from here for delivery in the future

The décor of the restaurant has the remnants of a 1970s something banquet hall with its floor to ceiling mirror walls, worn down carpeting, awkwardly placed chandelier, and tiny high stool bar tucked way in the back of the restaurant by the kitchen and bathrooms… but who comes to Hong Huah for the décor? Some of the reviews here gripe about the slow service of the place, but when the food is this good… you have to kick back and take the time to truly appreciate the delicious Chinese food this place has to offer. Things you must try here… 1. The pork wok fried potstickers(dumplings). Why are these 8 pieces of deliciousness worth trying? The dough has what the Taiwanese would describe as the perfect«Q Q» texture. Meaning that shell of the dumpling has a chewiness texture that is firm and has a bit of a bounce as you chew. The bottom of the dumpling has the perfect sear, which provides a delicate crunch factor, hence why it is called a pot — sticker… these are literally just the description of the outside. The inside of the dumpling is stuffed with a giant succulent pork meatball that is just mouthwatering delicious. The potstickers are served with a vinegar soysauce and hot chili on the side. Both are a great accompaniment to the appetizer. Note that these are fried, and as expected will be greasy, but they’re not saturated in oil. 2. Satay beef(on a stick). 4 pieces of beef, skewered into a stick. It’s marinated in a Taiwanese BBQ sauce that is called satay sauce(沙爹醬). I can’t describe it, but you just have to take my word for it and try it. They’re delicious. 3. Although I don’t have a picture of it cause it was inhaled before it even hit the table… there is a sliced sausage dish you absolutely have to try. It comes with slice raw garlic and it’s just that good. It’s one of those appetizers you need with a beer, specifically a Taiwan beer(台灣啤酒). 4. Beef chow fun with pan fried flat rice noodles, bean sprouts, and green onions. It’s a delicious noodle and beefy dish. A bit on the greasy side, but keep in mind it is fried noodles. 5. Hong Huah lobster, which is literally one whole lobster seasoned with the restaurant’s secret spices and coated in drawn butter over a bed of steam broccoli. I can’t quite describe the spices, however it is delicious. The lobster itself was cooked to perfection. The spices was a great accompaniment. I would have prefer to have control of how much butter I consume though I will have to make a mental note to ask of it can be place on the side the next time. 6. Fish filet with a veggie melody. Little chunks of white fish coated in what tasted like a tempura batter, light salty sauce, and the veggies consist of pea pods, water chestnuts, carrots, and bamboo shoots. Overall, the restaurant provides delicious and large portions of foods at a very reasonable price. The décor is dated. The service is slow, but the staff is friendly. This is a small family own restaurant for over 25+ years. This place is a small hidden gem in the neighborhood and dare I say, better than some of the places in Chinatown? It’s a great place to bring small children out to dinner. Do keep in mind that there isn’t a changing table in the bathrooms though.

I’ve ordered from this restaurant a few times now and I have to say, their food is pretty good. My fiancé and I favorites are the Sesame Chicken, Empress Chicken, and Hot –N– Sour Soup. The Kung Bao Beef and Beef with Vegetables are also good. It’s our top favorite place for delivery :-)

Every time i have been here, the service has been great! The food itself is phenomenal. I get the mushu beef every time. The owner comes out with the chinese pancakes and makes the tacos at you table with a spoon and chopstickes, not once touching the food with his bare hands. It is quite something to see.

Egg drop soup bland, but a little salt and pepper and all good, egg roll ok, not bad, sweet and sour chicken was ok but little chicken fingers instead of good size chunks, almost more breading than meat… very o.k. lunch, worth the $ 5.80 definitely

The food I ordered was pretty good, I would’ve given the review 5 stars but my food got here late. If you want good food then by all means this place is a good start but if you’re getting food delivered, be aware that chances are, depending how busy the restaurant is, your order will be late. I was still satisfied with the food and the delivery guy was still very nice so I’ll probably still order again in the future

This restaurant has been a staple of the area for a very long, so much so that I would considerate it a real part of the neighborhood. The owner and his son are very friendly and nice people, both of them are willing to go out of their way to make sure that you have a enjoyable and cordial experience. The food came out really fast to the table and each dish came out hot, fresh, and very delicious. Also, the menu includes some the normal Chinese American dishes, they also have the hidden gems of the traditional chinese dishes. The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are pretty good.

Warning to dine in patrons: Their takeout/delivery business trumps yours. I sat in a full disgruntled restaurant with dozens of other people and only one table was served any food over 50 minutes as we all watched the delivery driver enter and leave twice with huge packs of food. Ordering some chicken in sauce shouldn’t be a 2 hour experience. If they were understaffed or behind on phone orders, then for everyone’s sake, don’t seat up your dining room.

Came here on a friend’s recommendation, it was fantastic. The servers were very nice, the pan fried spicy soft crab was out of this world, and we loved the Mongolian beef, it was beautifully prepared served with just a bit of green scallions and served atop a nice amount of pan fried white noodles, yum!!!

Excellent choice for fast, inexpensive, non-stodgy, non-dodgy well prepared Chinese food in the Belmont Cemntral/MontClare area! We’ve tried so many Chinese restaurants in this area, many are still stuck in the 70s, with overcooked veg, gloppy brown sauce on everything and bland boring flavors. Hong Huah gets it right — they have the traditional favorites, but things are well-seasoned, veg are crisp cooked and abundant, and food is fresh! We use them for delivered dining — super fast delivery & great customer service.

This place is great. Authentic and friendly. Customers feel at home. Food made with love. I think about going here often and go for date night when we get the chance. The owner has a winning personality and there always cops eating. The food is what matters most. Great American Chinese!

My family and I have been coming to Hong Huah for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the neighborhood, so this great restaurant was our go-to place for family dinners or special celebrations. We came here so often that we became friends with the owner and his family as well. We happened to return for a visit(the owner John still remembers us!) for my 21st birthday. He gave me a nice cocktail and also a beautiful lantern decoration to hang in the house as a gift. These are genuinely nice people serving seriously delicious food. The service is great — friendly, helpful, and prompt. Food has always been top notch. Now, I won’t claim to be a connoisseur of Chinese cuisine, but ever single dish I’ve eaten here since childhood has been wonderful. As a kid I was blown away by the fanciful flowers they would craft out of radishes and beetroot. Dishes are not overly salted and are perfectly seasoned. My favorite has always been the Mu Shu vegetables slathered in hoisin sauce wrapped in a delicious thin pancake. Another favorite is the Happy Family dish of sauteed seafood and vegetables, and also the awesome Crab Rangoon appetizer. We love supporting local family-owned restaurants, and I’m so happy that this place is still around.

Based on Unilocal reviews I decided to try the Mongolian beef lunch special today. I’m not even finished with it but was so impressed I wanted to review it while the flavors were still fresh on my tongue and mind. It wasn’t like any other Mongolian beef I’ve had before, less saucy, way more flavor. I don’t even think I can give proper words. It was just tender, flavorful and delicious. So delicious I want to order it for dinner tonight! The portion was slightly smaller than I’m used to from most Chinese places. That said, it was a perfect lunch portion. I think I’ve just gotten used to the gluttonous portion sizes at most places. The lunch special came with a scoop(literally) of fried rice, a really good egg roll(the cabbage inside had a little crisp to it) and a small cup(maybe 6−8oz) of soup. I got hot and sour and it too does not disappoint. Service was friendly and I got my food quickly. I can’t wait to go back!

Absolutely the best little Chinese joint around. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and the food has stayed awesome. The hot n sour soup is super tasty, and cures my sore throat and sinuses after the last drop. The service is excellent and prompt, and the owner is so welcoming, even after 27 years! There’s no place like it!

I stopped here on Sunday at 430pm, because of the great reviews posted. First I would agree that the potstickers are delicious. I had the beef chop suey and was not impressed at all. My date had beef curry and I was told that it was very good. The service was not so great, I don’t know if I just went on one of their really busy days but we were the only ones in the dining room and it took awhile to actually get our meal. People who walked in got their orders faster than we did. I did hear the phone ringing a lot and also noticed a lot of pick up orders come in as well so maybe they are more concerned with their walk ins, delivery and pick up orders more than the dine in patrons. I had to find someone for more hot sauce because we ran out on our table. I had to ask for water because we ran out and were never asked if we needed a refill on our beverages when they were empty. I believe four star reviews have to have the whole picture and not just great food. I myself have had better beef chop suey. This is DEFINITELY not a five star. I would only go here if I call in a pick up order but I probably will not dine in again besides there are an abundanceof chinese restaurants here in Chicago to choose from, I need more attention then what i received here. I only gave three stars because the staff was very nice.
