First day was awesome, second time was rough around the edges. Seems all their beef combos are good, but their sesame, and General tsao chicken have an odd flavor unlike any other Chinese place I’ve been too. I would never order either of them again, but that’s just my taste buds saying no. Their crab rangoons were great first time, second time didn’t taste as good, the sweet and sour chicken were very hard, not edible, but we called and they were nice to give us credit for the next time we visit. Next to try the sweet and sour wings that look good. I’ll update a review on the 3rd try. Again, as far as the sesame and tsao, it could be an acquired taste others like. However, that was also over cooked on my second visit making it difficult to eat.

Sesame chicken was too spicy. Fried rice and egg roll were just okay. Bill seemed high. Just one table but that didn’t bother me.

If you’re looking for a great, affordable Chinese take out go-to I would definitely give Hunan Spring a try! My family and I have been ordering from here for over 12 years now and we have yet to be disappointed. We were ordering so often at one point that they began to notice when I changed my hairstyle, so sufficed to say we have been dedicated customers. Prices have gone up over the years but not by much, and regardless of what other reviews say I can vouch for the taste and quality of the food. Personal favorites include Crab Rangoon, Chicken Lo Mein, Chicken with Broccoli, Egg Rolls,… basically everything we order :)

This is not amazing Chinese. I would not take a trip just to get this food. However, if you’re looking for some Fast Food Chinese, this place fits the bill perfectly. The food is cheap, fast, and not bad. It’s nothing to write home about, but good in a pinch. If you live in the area, it’s worth checking out.

We have been ordering from here for several years. The food is excellent and the service is terrific. Delivery is fast and the food comes hot. The egg rolls are my favorite.

It changed management about 5 or 6 years ago so the taste for my favs have changed. However, I do make my specific requests to the kitchen and they always deliver. The Crab Rangoon is just a bit on the sweeter side but that’s what makes it delicious, gotta have! The sesame noodle appetizer is a must for us, as well as Green Beans in garlic white sauce(off the menu). I also ask for Sesame Tofu instead of Chicken. The veg. fried rice is good, the Flat Noodle stir fry a bit oily but still yum.

Absolutely NO! Every time i order from here the chicken taste more like tofu than actual meat. I used to live one block from this place and decided to walk there instead or ordering delivery. Its very small and they have a huge fan blowing in the restaurant, i can only imagine whats being blown into the food. My daughter broke out from the sesame chicken and she is NOT allergic to anything. My Mongolian beef was ok except order it without onions since that is what they fill it with. The chicken fried rice i threw out. once again… tofu. I would rather spend $ 10 in delivery fee and tip then order from here agian.

Pleasantly surprised by the delicious fixings this tiny restaurant served up; it doesn’t exactly exude the kind of ambiance that says«our food tastes great», but it did. As a *mostly* vegetarian, I started drooling at the sight of orange tofu on their menu, and it more than lived up to my expectations. Add to that some delicious green beans and spicy/garlic eggplant, and I was a happy camper. Entrees were all $ 6.95, and they even threw in a little container of steamed broccoli. What more could you ask for?

As a Chinese, I know what americanized Chinese food is, but this is probably the worst I ever had, the only thing they can cook is rice.

i work in the area and have ordered from here regularly over the years. i have never once been disappointed. chinese food tends to get a bad rap, but this place really sets the standards. ive had a wide variety from here, but my favorite is the mongolian beef and any of the egg foo young. they are sensational — great flavor, lots of beef and vegetables, fried rice is good too, the egg foo young is a hearty portion with gravy that is to die for. they have great lunch specials too, all of which include choice of soups or rolls, come with soda, and fried rice, all for about $ 5/$ 6. and in addition to all this, the delivery is always very quick and on time.

Have been looking for a Chinese place in the area. This is a wonderful hole in the wall. When we walked in the the smells were amazing and only made me more hungry. The crab Rangoon was wonderful. Portions were great and the price was right on. Can’t wait to go back.

Great Chinese place, its cheap, staff is friendly and they have outstanding food! I usually get a small kung pao chicken spicy and it sure was plus I ordered an appetizer of fried squid but they called me back saying they were sold out:(It’s my favorite dish there but at least the called right away to tell me. So I substituted the squid for their house crab Rangoon and asked if I can get the dipping sauce for the squid and they obliged. Sometimes the orders take a while because its a small place so you just have to have some patience. 4.5 starts I give it

Love this place for cheap, last minute meals in the neighborhood, especially for lunch. They cook fast and everything is good! My 2 yr old loves the beef lo mein noodles and I like the kung pao. Typical customer service for these types of small Chinese spots.

If Panda Express had a larger menu, I think you could easily compare it to Hunan Spring. This is clearly Chinese Fast Food. If you were ordering from here to expect something authentic, then it would come as no surprise to me that you were let down. I believe I am a food addict. I try not to discriminate. Hunan Spring leaves me with mixed feelings. First of all, The restaurant seems family owned. Anyone who feels like they have received bad service from this place is right to do so. To be empathetic, I would say that the employees you see working the register or delivering your food are probably not paid what they’re worth. I could expand here, but at the risk of anyone thinking that I am forming stereotypes, I am going to leave it alone. The rest of the reviews on here pretty much back up my observations anyway. Aside from what anyone else says, it’s decent food. I even think their egg rolls are decent. I’ve had the following: Shrimp in lobster sauce, sesame chicken, chicken wings, fried squid, Cashew Chicken, and crab rangoon. All of it is decent except for the sesame chicken. It’s practically all breading, and it tastes like the orange chicken from Panda Express. The chicken wings, which I had hoped would arrive in a spicy sauce, were just friend chicken wings. Don’t bother. The fried squid is my favorite. I think most people might find it gross though. If you have it delivered, then you need to take it out of the box right away. Leaving it in the container will allow it to get soggy. Seriously, open it up as soon as you close the door on the delivery guy/girl. The squid comes with this awesome sweet and spicy sauce that rivals any sweet and sour sauce. I’d almost make the clerks give you a container of that for your egg rolls. If you pick up your order of squid from the restaurant right as it comes out of the kitchen, and you rush it home, it’s even crispier. I am pretty relaxed when it comes to these things, but I have to keep it real: One time I did find a thick black hair in my food. I really think the guys in the kitchen are way too comfortable because they are working for family and they don’t have to worry about losing their jobs; which probably makes up for the lack of pay. I’ve even seen the cooks working the kitchen with their street jackets on because there was obviously no heat turned on in the restaurant. Seriously though, they need to keep their hair out of the food. I have gone back since then. I do inspect my food before eating it. I’d advise you to do the same.

I used tolive very close and could stop in here right from the train. I had a taste one night for just fried rice and egg foo young — things I seldom ever order, but it was one of those times I craved it. The counter person was VERY rude saying«the chefs do not like cooking this because it is such a cheap meal, they will nto be happy with this order.» Well, #1, i was a prety regular customer there, and my regular bill was never«cheap». #2 I did not know I was supposed to make the chefs happy — I thought I was supposed to order what I wanted to eat. #3 if they don’t like cooking it — be one of the only places that don’t have it on the menu. I stopped going there after that. The food was not bad, not great — standars, average chinese take-out.

I’ve finally found THE best in Chinese food! Their steamed pot stickers are heaven! They are made with a ground pork that has been seasoned well and mildly spicy. not just just some bland lump of ground pork. The Mongolian chicken has a perfect amount of heat and VERY flavorful. Their meat entrees actually have meat and NOT just loaded up with veggies! Even though the veggies are a perfect crisp tender texture. The egg foo young is separate from the gravy. so it stays tasty as oppose to soggy. Everything is super FRESH and oh so delicious! I do not like their egg and spring rolls. but a LOT of their dishes are very delicious! I will definitely be a regular customer. I’m addicted!

My wife and I ordered delivery last night. The crab rangoons looked like they were under a heat lamp all day, they weren’t crunchy at all. There wasn’t much crab in them either, it was mostly all an odd, liquidy cream cheese. My moo shu pork was 95% cabbage and they forgot the plum sauce. My wife liked her mapo tofu well enough, though. We probably won’t order from there again. Is there a good Chinese or Thai place in Jefferson Park?

Pretty good for the price. I’ve always had delivery only. We order there pretty often and it’s cheap with lots of fresh ingredients. My new fav. is the General Tso Tofu(greasy good but in tofu form, :p) They do not have any fish or Chinese vegetable, but overall, the food is decent.
