I used to get delivery from here very, very often. Always consistent, always good. I usually get the Garlic Broccoli and veggie egg rolls. I’m writing this review now to wish the family who owns it the best of luck, as Northeastern University will be forcing them to sell the property where they have been for more than 60 years, using Illinois eminent domain laws. To the owners– I hope you can relocate close by.

I used to go to NEUI in the nineties and I still remember coming here and eating lunch or dinner. The food was quite good and the people were nice.

This is a generic chinese restaurant. I am giving them 4 stars because of the price/quality compared to other chinese restaurants in the area. $ 16 for fried rice, eggroll, general tso’s chicken and a large lo mein is a great deal. That is enough to feed 3 people. Yes, the flavor is Americanized as others have mentioned, and more salty then what I am use to, but with multiple high schools and colleges near it, they need to adapt. Prep time for the food does take longer then usual. Depending on the time of of the day, they might have turned off some kitchen equipment and needed to turn it back on. Took 45 min for my order, so you need to plan ahead. I will not take off stars for that because they are upfront with you about it in the beginning. Other restaurants will say 10 min, and will force you to wait another 30 min after you get there. If you want authentic chinese, go to Chinatown. If you want to go to Panda Express down the street, don’t. Place an order here, support a local business, pay less then Panda Express, and get better food.

A very quite restaurant which is great for a college student studying. Service was surprisingly fast. I had the wonton soup, which was fantastic, and the general tsao with fried rice. The chicken was superb, the skin had a slight crunch but the meat was moist and juicy. This was all part of the lunch special which with tax only cost $ 6.30! The proportion was a perfect amount for lunch and helped me get through the rest of the school day. I’ll be coming back again and again! Great food, cheap prices, friendly workers, all in a wonderful atmosphere… what’s not to love?!?

Have been going to this place for easily 15 years. Hope it doesn’t get absorbed by NEIU. Get the Sesame Chicken combo, so good!

I go here a couple of fridays a month for lunch. It’s really convenient being close to NEIU! I tried their General Tso’s Chicken and it is so good! I even tried it in shrimp and it was delightful! The lunch specials are generous enough without overdoing it! The service and prices are great too!

The best Chinese food my family and I have ever had. The crab rangoons are a must have. They must be experienced at least once in your life. I have never found a Chinese restaurant as good as this in my new residence state of AZ, so this is definitely a must have on every visit back to Chicago. The place is not the most updated place. But it has a great family-feel to it. The owner still remembers me and my family and always asks about their well-being. Great place and and amazing food.

I’ve lived in the North Park neighborhood for 19 years and feel lucky indeed to be able to walk around the corner to pick up scrumptious meals from Hunan Wok. Their steamed, healthy dishes are my fave, such as the tofu with mushroom and broccoli. It never takes more than 15 minutes for an order – usually 10 minutes. Love this place!

Ordered from here over the weekend. We ordered sesame chicken, orange chicken, and a third type of chicken which I do not recall. So, our food arrived and literally all the chicken we ordered was the exact same thing. Just chicken and broccoli, but the sauce was just a little different for each. Very disappointing and boring. The crab Rangoon was average and the dumplings seemed to me as if they weren’t cooked to the end. Not ordering from here again.

I try not too eat too bad, but at the same time i always wonder what places has the best type of whatever food. In this case, I can honestly say this place has THE best General Tso’s Chicken AND Crab Rangoon. I don’t make a big deal about the rangoons because I dont eat them much outside of Chinese Buffets. But eat these fresh. awesome. But their General Tso’s Chicken??? All i can say is i dont order them anywhere else any more. They just dont measure up. I eat at Chinese places quite a bit and i can say i love this stuff. The chicken is never dry. The sauce they put on it has a nice kick to it, and its not too spicy or salty. Better than the Orange Chicken at Panda Express. Anyway this will probably be the only review i ever write. I usually like everything so i dont think my opinion helps. But damn when i want to treat myself i definitely go here. Oh, and the people who work there make an effort to remember you and are super friendly. They make time to talk to you and make you feel very welcome. Why not 5 stars? Because i only order one thing from their menu. So not their fault. Go Bulls

Hunan Wok is a classic, delicious Chinese restaurant. Stopped in today for a quick lunch and had the broccoli with garlic sauce. Came with pork fried rice and an absolutely delicious bowl of hot and sour soup. Great deal, too: only $ 5.75! Maria, the owner, is a great hostess and very friendly and welcoming to all of her patrons. I will be back!

I have a big problem with my cravings for Hunan Wok:-) Absolutely the best Chinese takeout in the city(in my opinion). The garlic chicken is my jam! General Tso chicken is also amazing. I live in Humboldt Park and drive all the way to Bryn Mawr for this stuff — definitely worth it!

Been going here for 16 years. Coming back from a Dr appointment I wanted to sit down and eat. Got there at 930pm only to be told she closes at ten and I should get to go. Sorry no I wanted to sit down and eat. Last time this happened I was done at 955pm and tipped very well for any bothers. You would think loyaltty pays off but no. This time I left and the lady was laughing. Well I always refer people to them about 5 went this last two weeks. Never again lost a long time customer! Ok ok never again!

Really good food, but some odd and annoying policies RE paying with credit cards and sharing or splitting dishes. Otherwise amazing.

Stopped in for takeout, got crab rangoon and spicy orange chicken. The crab rangoon never made it home-absolutely awesome! The orange chicken did not disappoint; everything tasted fresh and I will definitely be coming back for more.

To get a good glimpse of the business you need to filter through reviews and see those by their fans. Many have the correct story and that was, that years ago it was pretty damn good but as time went on(like some businesses) they began to lack in quality. For years, people came for their General Tso’s chicken, I can’t imagine anything else of any worth. You can see my previous reviews, but at one time they had one of the best General Tso’s entrees on the NW side of Chicago. As I stated, over the years it just got worse and worse. Now sometime in the past year there was a new owner. A person or group that started out as fans of their food and hoped to reignite that passion they once loved to taste. Unfortunately the business didn’t take off quite as imagined and previous ownership took it back. There is probably one reviewer that is ecstatic about the old ownership coming back. I’m not and that was the look I gave to the owner when she was happily telling me about it. Way back when, during a random visit or two, I got to meet one of those new owners and let me tell you the food was fantastic and there were new offerings in what they were doing. You could tell from the quality of the food, presentation and new changes via their new menus that there was a new excitement in the kitchen. When those new owners left, with them the old owners sent out the new menus. WHAT A FAIL! The new owners had a nicer way to preparation, their take out containers were nicer, the presentation looked tastier, everything was better! But now they’re gone and I miss them. The last time I ordered a General Tso’s chicken lunch special was about a week ago and you know what? It sucked. The prep of the chicken pieces, the sauce. the rice. I am so done with this place. If fast food Chinese is up your alley If inexpensive Chinese is up your alley If, if large portions for cheap value is your thing. Enjoy.

Tasty little cost effective Chinese place in NW Chi-raq. Easy little $ 6 lunch or something special. Quick and filling.

I’m generally pretty snobby and impossible to please as far as dining, but this place tripped up my perpetual negativity. It is literally the best value of any restaurant on the north side. Good tasting dishes, very large portions, and their prices are what everyone else’s was in 1998. I haven’t had every dish, but the potstickers are definitiely some of the best in the area. I look for spicy things usually, sesame noodles and szechuan chicken are both solid. The primary factor that makes this place worthy of a review is that there isn’t a molecule of pretention involved(until I walk in to pick up the food, but it’s gone once I leave).
